Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Well, I did write an article about it back then ;)
If you think about it, that result is perfectly in line with what I just explained. At lower resolutions you are automatically more CPU-heavy (since the GPU workload shrinks while the CPU workload stays the same).

I should read pc gamer more often! Thanks for the explanation.

It seems the 1070's have arrived for preorder here in France. Them prices!

Then again some 980Ti are still over 700€ here so there's that.

Bad news if you bought the Gigabyte G1 like I did from Amazon. I just had a chat with them and if this is true, what a sucky bummer:

Asked Gigabyte on facebook if Amazon stock had been delayed to July last night

"No way. For sure there will be some next week."

I've been saving my pennies and convinced myself I was going to get a 1070, but now that I'm actually ready to pull the trigger, I find myself thinking, "what's another $200 to get the best GPU on the market?"

Save me from myself, GAF.

For me it all comes down to two things - Supersampling Rift games comfortably (particularly Elite Dangerous!) and me being likely to get a 4K at some point during the next few years. Buy a 1080...you know you want to lol

Just got an email from Amazon UK regarding the FTW card.

Hello Mark,

Further to our chat, I'm updating you via email.

I understand that you would like to know when the item will be back in stock.

As discussed in chat, I have contacted our buying team to check when the item will be back on stock.

We have received an update that the item will be back in stock on June 29, 2016.

We hope to see you again soon.

So still a while to wait.

I ended up placing an order in at Dell for a PNY 1080 FE.

I had a $400 gift card expiring in July that I needed to use, so that final cost to me ended up being $350.

Won't ship for "13-17 days" it says, but with that and the 2 EVGA FTWs on order I figure I'll be setup for a SLI 1080 setup.

I might just end up canceling the FTW pre-orders and try and find another "base" 1080 with a custom cooler

You're the best! Thanks! I'm shipping to Texas so the tax is actually a bit cheaper from where I live. Yeeehaw!

How much stronger will the 1080 be compared to my current GPU, a Sapphire R9 290X?
Also, all these third party releases, but how do you guys determine which one to go for?

Strix is up on Newegg (or was when I typed this)

almost bought it since I got money today I wasn't expecting and the 1070 prices are disappointing

was wanting to go 1070 and get a G-Sync monitor down the line...if I bought a 1080 I wouldn't have the money for the monitor

Question for 1080 owners or in general. Should I be worried that Precision X keeps setting my voltage to 100%. Everytime I restart my PC or it wakes from sleep, my voltage meter is up at +100. I'm not seeing temps rise really, and it's stable, just didn't know if that will eventually cause an issue.

There were some available, maybe. I went there and it said In Stock. I was able to add to my cart, but when I went to the cart, it said Out of Stock and removed it from my cart. It allowed me to do this three times.

Such a fucking tease, Newegg.

same for me...the 1070 prices being higher than I was expecting factors into that

Because I NEED a card now, that means the comparison is between the $450 FE 1070, or the $600ish 3rd party 1080s. That's a much tougher decision than if I could get a 1070 for the 3rd Party price....and maybe that's the point.

Edit:

QUOTE=draughn101;206331985]Does this help? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7nRTF2SowQ[/QUOTE]

...maybe a little....

it's such a pain, I think I am just going to wait for abit.

This has been my thought process exactly. The MSI 1070 will probably be priced at or slightly above the FE when it launches, which is expensive enough for me to just move up instead of going for a ~$500 (after tax) compromise.

I pulled the trigger on a Gaming X on Newegg this morning, took a few tries to get it to go through, but once it did, it went to packaging within a few minutes. No regrets.

Seriously. I got myself stuck in a loop of "one more time" and added to my cart and tried to check out about 30 times.

Yeah, I was stuck in this loop earlier today. Tried it at least 3 dozen times. Card in cart, go to checkout, get the message it was removed due to limited stock. Rinse, repeat.

I shouldn't complain - I have an EVGA 1080 FTW reserved on Amazon. Considering I wouldn't be pushing it beyond stock OC, I'd prefer the faster OC speeds on the Asus Strix.
Speaking of - any ideas thus far on when the EVGA FTW orders will start going out? Last I believe I heard was the 17th.

I shouldn't complain - I have an EVGA 1080 FTW reserved on Amazon, just like the faster stock speeds on the Asus Strix.

Just a heads up. My SC clocks higher than the advertised clocks for the Strix without touching OC. I sit at 1975 in Doom, and a touch higher in Rocket League. That doesn't mean the Strix wont get itself higher as well, but I don't think there's much of a difference between any of these cards.

Good to know, thanks!
I generally don't mess with overclocking as I don't have the time or patience to troubleshoot when things start to go awry. Just want everything to work as intended.

HOLY SHIT! I just landed a Strix from Newegg. I had given up, and then a friend on Facebook messaged me that they had them at Newegg, and so I tried one more time for shits & giggles. Got an order # and everything.

Right now I have a 1440p 60hz monitor, but after I get my 1080 I think I might want to upgrade to one of the following:

- 1440p 144hz
- 4k 60hz

What do you guys think is more worthwhile? I've never gamed above 60hz before. I mostly play single player games, MMO's and Overwatch if that matters. Most FPS games I play on console for the higher player base.

the jump to 144hz is AWESOME. everything is smoother. I would definitely recommend a gysnc monitor either way you go. I have the below monitor and love it. 1440p, 144hz, IPS, gsync. Acer preadator xb271hu
