Nvidia Launches GTX 980 And GTX 970 "Maxwell" Graphics Cards ($549 & $329)

So, maybe a dumb question, but if I wake up late tomorrow, I don't have to worry about these cards being sold out because of bitcoin miners do I?

Really? It seems to look very appealing in performance/price compared to the 780ti's I've been eye balling.

You're not getting much more for the $220 extra over 970 though. Simply put, nothing that isn't playable on the 970 will be playable on the 980, the difference in some cases is 10-15%.

If it had a more decisive 25-30% lead, then might be worth it.

Nvidia noob here, what's the counterpart of the 970 to AMD's ?

I own an R9 270x and thinking of switching to Nvidia.

When can I buy one of these? Really hard to not do so, especially at that $350 price point.

I was thinking I'd have to pay out the ass for a good upgrade. This is pleasant news.

Think I'll snag a 970 and ebay my 770, shouldn't be too huge of a price difference at that point. At least to where I wouldn't feel too guilty about splurging.

i think tomorrow. i don't even see them listed on amazon yet, unless search is failing me.

Not a bad price if your upgrading from <600 series (assuming your an Nvidia user). If you have a 700 series I'd wait for the Ti variants.

970 SLI review from techpowerup:

http://www.techpowerup.com/mobile/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_970_SLI/1.html

Seems like the way to go for $660! Performance per dollar and performance per watt are off the scale.

970 SLI should see most people through the entirety of this generation if you game on a single screen below 4k.

You know, with VR SLI, 4GB GDDR5 as standard and the fantastic power draw of these cards, I think I can finally recommend SLI. If you need something more than a single 970 then SLI 970s is the obvious choice.

It's going to be the setup of choice for CV1 (unless something better comes along before then).

I still want to see some frame latency tests for SLI though.

maybe because of MFAA, 1gb more RAM and 100-140W less power draw (in SLI), VR SLI and other VR stuff? And 970 is around 10% stronger too.

None of that is really worth the hit he's going to take selling the 780, and then buying 2 970's. If that's what you want, go for it, but it's not really worth it IMO. Also I looked up that downsample thing.

At release, DSR will be exclusive to Maxwell, but Nvidia's director of technical marketing Tom Petersen said at Nvidia Editor's Day that a rollout to older cards was "very likely."

So yeah, it's coming to the 700 series.

It certainly makes what I have planned feel less insane.

Can anybody find out what the physical dimensions of the cards are? I'm worried it won't fit, I can't figure out how large the 970 is compared to my 7970.

How does the 970 compare to the R9 280x? In the market for a card but AMD looked to have my price range locked down ($350ish). If the 970 is on par or better I'll definitely get that.

It blows it away while consuming far less power, having way more features and including more memory.

Forget about AMD's "high end" lineup from the 280x upwards. No one should go anywhere near those cards anymore. The GTX 970 is the new king.

Huh. Is there anyone else out there on the 700-series considering getting a 970? I'm on a 770 right now and $320 doesn't seem like a whole lot

I'd love them to leverage the VR SLI idea for regular S3D too, but I'm not sure that it's possible.

i didnt even mentioned DSR. And if you want to play VR i think the VR stuff alone is enough. And if you live in a country with super high electricy prices 100-140W less is alot. That would be around 30-40€ less here per year in germany if you game for 3hours per day in average.
Right now in the benchmarks the 970 performs 5-30% better than a 780. A german Benchmark but you can really good compare FPS jump in % in these graphics.

And this was without MFAA, wasnt in the acutal drivers.
