Nvidia Shield Thread

How do I mess with key bindings? Playing Call of Juarez the right stick is not working -- but it is working with Splashtop

In the settings you should be able to change the mappings for everything on your controller, it's under "Hardware Mapping". There's a check box above the list of mappings which says "Track Mapping", so if you can't figure out what a particular control is called in the list just turn that on and it will show you on screen when you press the stick or button.

Settings on PC server or android client?

The Android client, you open the menu by tapping the set of three icons on the centre top part of the screen.

Got it. It works but when I reopen the app the changes I made don't stick. Have to redo each time. Is this a known bug? Also -- do you have any recommendations to improve quality of streaming with Kainy?

I am SO disappointed in the shield. I want PC streaming but this thing frankly sucks at it. I had a little window in which streaming worked really well but then they updated the drivers and I'm screwed again. I was told that Nvidia realizes this and are working on it. I was also told to roll back the drivers to a more workable version. I did this and it still sucks. PC streaming for me isn't slow but playable, its downright crippled. The beta grid from hundreds of miles away works better than the streaming from my PC to my shield which is 25 feet away. What the hell is up with that?

Which router you use?

Its a western digital dual band router. I simply set my pc and the shield to it so they can communicate.Like I said, for like a two month window it worked very well and then it went downhill from there. Its a software not a hardware issue.

That's weird, I've not encountered that at all. So far I find that the lower the game resolution the better, which is fine for playing on the Shield screen since it's only 720p anyway. Apart from that, only the usual solution of getting a faster CPU and router would really help. It's a bit light on configuration, but I can see it improving rapidly.

Do you go lower than 720p?

I'm not sure I'm going to keep mine. Have not decided. If anyone wants to make me an offer PM me. Will ship anywhere in the US

I am so tempted to get one, but no sure what to do. Either get this or wait for the 2nd one, seeing as the 1st has been out for a while now/

There any good sites like metacritic/gamerankings that rank Android games?

I already have a shield and really love it for game streaming which I mostly use it for, but I've got a flight across the country coming up and I'm trying to find some good Android games to download in preparation for using it away from my PC or an internet connection, but the google play store is just so huge and such a mess it's hard to make any sense of everything in there.

Are any of the action RPG games on Android any good? Like the Zelda ripoffs or Skyrim ripoffs?

Wait for the new one, trust me, Tegra TK1 is a hell of a lot better than Tegra 4. Hopefully they come out with that version soon, excited to see how much or how little they improve things.

Mount and Blade linked above is a great 3rd person action RPG, though it's nothing like Skyrim; far lower production values, far better gameplay.

I've been noticing talk about Ethernet to USB and streaming on Nvidia Shield, is there a way to stream on the Nvidia Shield without having to go wireless? Click this thread here to see what I'm talking about.

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/657937/nvidia-shield-wired-ethernet-connection-/

And it seems they're using this, but I'm not sure how that'd work since shield have a big USB port.

I'm trying to get Kainy working properly with my Shield, but I've encountered a big problem that I cannot solve.

After assigning a stick (left or right) to the mouse function, whenever I move the mouse-assigned stick in a game, the game interprets the movement of the stick not only as mouse-movement but also as left-clicking. So, imagine in a FPS, whenever I move the stick, I'm not only looking up, down, left, right, etc. but I'm also constantly shooting everything in sight without any way to stop it. I've tried defaulting every single setting, with only 1 stick (I've tried both left and right) assigned to the mouse. I've tried assigning just the stick to mouse and a button (A, B, whatever) to the left-mouse click. I've tried assigning something to everything. Nothing works. This happens in every game. It even happens on my desktop.

Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh wow, Pretty huge update!!!

Out of home streaming
Wake on Lan support
New support for dongle to charge and play in Big picture mode
New menus to control FPS and Bitrate, maybe I can finally stop using Splashtop/Rainy.
Kitkat Upgrade

Pretty excited right now, April 2 cant come soon enough.

So for some reason I always just dismissed the Shield as a gimmick without admittedly looking too much into it. So after reading this thread it's a pretty decent handheld for emulation and streaming PC games then ? What sort of hardware do you need to effectively stream games ok ? It's certainly got my interest though I'd wait for the newer model in the future (plus I can't afford it anyway!)

Excellent news. So glad that Nvidia keep supporting this great device.

This update is nuts. You guys are on fire. A lot of creativity and thoughtful application of existing technology is turning this into a really amazing device.

Email
Internet
Music
Movies and TV
Any other android app
Android games
Shield optimized Android games
Emulator games
PC games streamed anywhere
HDTV TV output for all the above....

The support that Nvidia are showing the Shield is really surprising and impressive, so kudos and many thanks to everyone over there. I was perfectly content with it as it is, but you guys keep bringing more gravy to a meaty side project. Totally satisfied Guinea pig here.

Yup, main reason why I'm all in for a Shield 2 whenever that happens.

The new update sounds exciting, especially the ability to charge and use a usb otg at the same time, but doesn't Kitkat basically break SD card support? I'm not too keen on the particulars, but I remember there being a big fuss about how Kitkat deals with SD cards differently than Jelly Bean did.

Is there confirmation of support for laptop GTX GPUs?

Engadget had a small blurb but I havent seen it anywhere else.

GeForce GTX 800M and GTX 700M GPUs, plus GeForce GTX 680M, GTX 675MX, GTX 670MX and GTX 660M.

These all have Kepler or Maxwell hardware, which is required for GameStream. This also means notebook ShadowPlay :)

Ah GOD DAMN IT, I completely forgot about this. Huge pain in the ass in Kitkat.

I guess im gonna have to start putting isos and roms using old-school cables instead of Wi-Fi Explorer :(

So, I've had a gaming PC with a GTX 770 in it for a few months now, and was thinking of getting a Shield. Should I wait for the revision, or is the 200 dollar one the one I want? I don't want to use it for anything but streaming games from my PC to my unit while i'm in bed.

Yup, confirmed, neutered SD card support:
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/715378/general-discussion/shield-and-kitkat/

Install games to SD still works (although it's been buggy on my end, and the two largest games I have, GTA VC and San Andreas, don't support it). Some apps may need to be updated if they haven't already.

But file managers are dead in the water with this update. I too have been transferring files wireless via ftp using Solid Explorer, and this negates that. I currently have my shield rooted right now, so I'm hoping there'll be a workaround for proper SD support.

Edit: There is a fix

Needless to say, it'll be the first thing I'll install after installing the update and rerooting.
