NYT now has the email to Donald Trump Jr. offering Russian aid to "incriminate"

The June 3, 2016, email sent to Donald Trump Jr. could hardly have been more explicit: One of his father's former Russian business partners had been contacted by a senior Russian government official and was offering to provide the Trump campaign with dirt on Hillary Clinton.

The documents "would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father," read the email, written by a trusted intermediary, who added, "This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump."

If the future president's elder son was surprised or disturbed by the provenance of the promised material — or the notion that it was part of an ongoing effort by the Russian government to aid his father's campaign — he gave no indication.

He replied within minutes: "If it's what you say I love it especially later in the summer."

Four days later, after a flurry of emails, the intermediary wrote back, proposing a meeting in New York on Thursday with a "Russian government attorney."

Donald Trump Jr. agreed, adding that he would likely bring along "Paul Manafort (campaign boss)" and "my brother-in-law," Jared Kushner, now one of the president's closest White House advisers.

My faith in the system is basically non-existent at this point. Should I expect there to be any consequences or does someone want to break out the "nothing matters anymore" gif?
 
Donald Trump, Jr. continued unsolicited in the e-mail to state, "Here are companies my father has illegal Russian investments in to remind you that we are deeply invested in the Russian state, and here's a picture of me having shat my pants as a young child as personal kompromat."

Maybe. Or maybe they have a better understanding of what's actually illegal and what isn't. IANAL but I would bet that for this new info to be helpful, it would have to be proven that DT Jr knew for a fact that the dirt on Hilary was illegally obtained. Good luck with that.

But hell, maybe King Cheetoh will be impeached by Labor Day.
 
So, they are conspiring, but conspiracy to do what, exactly? What I mean is, what is the law that this violates?

I mean, obviously this looks horrible for them, I just mean what actual charges would this bring?

The investigation is ongoing. That's how it works. The process, so far, is actually working.
 
I'm confused. What does Jr have to gain by posting them himself? He's probably incriminating himself and absolutely exposing federal crimes by his bro-in-law.

When Trump pardons junior the talking point will be how it's not really treason, he just loves his daddy and wanted to help.

Yes I am sure the Russian government legally obtained the incriminating info on Hillary
 
If he does not get indicted then throw away the rule of law. The constitution does not matter if Trump Jr. doesn't get punished for this.

It doesn't matter. Nothing fucking matters. These assholes could release video footage of themselves murdering babies and nothing would happen. They're above the law, not because of the offices they hold, but because no one is going to do anything. What could we do? Annoy a Congressman, maybe?

I believe this is in violation of campaign finance laws that broadly state foreign government can't be assisting a campaign in this fashion, per an NPR podcast I was half listening to.

Could be other legal issues too here
