I swear every one of these threads begins with a chorus of "oh shit", "here we go", "this is it" etc.

It's never fucking it.

It just goes on and on and on.

I'm confused. What does Jr have to gain by posting them himself? He's probably incriminating himself and absolutely exposing federal crimes by his bro-in-law.

Its really the only thing they have left, just get out in front of it and try to save face on it. They normally don't do this, which is why its all the more damning.

They are in big trouble, clear collusion here, along with a possible violation of finance laws, if there is clear evidence that there is a foreign state assisting in campaign dealings. Hence Trump's whole "Hillary took money from ISIS!" without any real evidence. This is real evidence.

*Donald Trump murders someone*

"I mean, so what? It looks bad but [grade school debate team level justification]."

*Donald Trump stays in office*

I am not implying that I think this isn't against the law. It sounds like it SHOULD be against the law. I am just asking if anyone actually knows which law this violates.

You are upset that there wasn't an indictment after this article 10 minutes ago?

No, I'm upset that the Trump administration has been so rocked by scandal that barely a day has gone by without controversy, that it's newsworthy when he gets through a single speech without saying something grotesque, and yet it has thus far amounted to absolutely nothing in terms of substantial consequences, and I'm wondering if Donald Trump releasing the hit single of the summer entitled "I Colluded With Russia (Feat. Vladmir Putin)" would change that.

Is it possible for any of them to face the death penalty for this?

potentially, But I'd rather the following.

Imprisonment for life (120+ years each) in federal prison

Seizure of all assets and auction of.(every trump tower sold off, every bank account frozen and seized)

The creation of the "Trump Amendment"
- strengthens government ethics committee to the point they can take down a president and issue impeachment article without senate/congress.
- strengthens and modernization of the sherman anti trust act.
- Stregthens money laundering laws and laws on receiving money from state associates

"Yeah, I held that guy up. But he forgot his wallet at home and I didn't get his money so technically no crime took place."

Trump Jr must be taking marching orders to throw himself under the bus. It seems like this is all building up to a narrative that "if there was collusion, it was just this idiot doing it, and look at what an idiot he is. Case closed."

Granted, this is not going to take heat off Trump himself, even if they think it might.

I believe this is in violation of campaign finance laws that broadly state foreign government can't be assisting a campaign in this fashion, per an NPR podcast I was half listening to.

Could be other legal issues too here

OK, that's a start. So this would be conspiracy to violate those laws? Federal I assume.

When they say "this is it" they don't mean indictments tomorrow.

They mean the leaked evidence is getting more and more damning. That Mueller has what he needs. (And I'm sure he has much more).

That's because these investigations take years. One of the few normal things happening these days.

Patience. The investigation is going to take a long time. Watergate took years. Be patient.

It's almost like impeaching a president and half his cabinet is something that takes a while....

You're assuming Trump and his lawyers are intelligent.

...dont.

He tweeted it out himself, and it explicitly says "Russian government attorney" and "Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump"

Where is the chess? This isn't even tic tac toe. How nice of him to "come clean" after the evidence is already out. I still don't think he understands what he's done wrong here.

And, right on time, we get your kind of posts, "nothing will happen", "who cares", etc.

We get it. You don't think anything will happen to him.

inb4 "Even though Trump Jr. keeps confirming every part of this story it's still from NYT and so it's obviously lies and Russia didn't do anything, btw collusion with a foreign power isn't even explicitly illegal, and Trump's son, Manafort, and Kushner hardly even know Trump"

It's almost like things don't happen instantly. It's not like Watergate took two years right?

I think taking this meeting is already a violation, as I understood it.

OK Great. Does anyone know what statute we are talking about here? What the punishment range is? So if Don Jr. is fucked already by taking the meeting, could Don Sr. be fucked via conspiracy even if he did not attend the meeting?

Stupid Watergate never ceases to amaze with how often it can live up to it's name

Trump is protected by Congress right now. Trump Jr isn't. It'll have to come down to a pardon, and at that point it's just more entanglement into the Russia investigation and narrative

Russia being #FakeNews narrative is dead. No way it can be an effective talking point anymore, everyone will just point to this email.
