NYT now has the email to Donald Trump Jr. offering Russian aid to "incriminate"

My question is, why would Jr. tweet the emails?

Yes, I know the favorite possibility is that he's just completely dense, but are there any other reasons here? Does he not find it that incriminating, and by releasing them it makes it look like he's "fine with it being out there"?
I know right? He can't be that much of a dumbass...or can he.

It was coming either way. At least this way he can play dumb.

Probably. That has been the latest tactic from the Whitehouse/GOP.

"So Russia interfered with the election. So what? We do the same thing! It's not a big deal guys, really."/

One theory is that he wanted to implicate Kushner so that if he goes down, they both do.

NYT contacted him about this story and about having those emails, they asked him for comment.

He asked for time to come up with comment, but instead released emails over twitter.

He was fucked either way.

My guess is he just wanted to stick it to the New York Times, even with all the associated risks.
It's very Trump-ian in fact.

Quick question.

How is lying about your attempt to collude in an investigation about collusion not obstruction of justice?

How is lying under oath, trying to discredit the entire IC and the free press when you know damn well you had contacts and were in cahoots with foreign government, not obstruction of justice?

Happy we have the NYT doing great work, but I'm pretty upset that the FBI is only learning about this now. They've been investigating this for over a year now and haven't thought to check the emails of the President's literal namesake?

The NYT probably has a lot more sources, connections and assets than the FBI does. Ask yourself - how did they get a copy of Junior's emails in the first place?

-The FBI would need a warrant to get those emails off a server.

-The NYT only needs them to "magically appear" in their mailboxes, aka LEAKS from unidentified sources.

The good news is that now the FBI doesn't even need a warrant or a judge to grant them one - Junior fucking GAVE them everything himself lol

You release it yourself so that you control the spin. If your enemy releases it and gets the story out first, they can shape the conversation in their favor.

Either way though, theres no logical explanation that makes Trump Jr look clean in this instance.

Here's that 4th page some people missed.

It's truly incredible. It mentions directly that the Russian government is behind it and that they want to meet. Also who and when and why. And how sensitive it is.

I'm not sure I understand the current strategy here. Why would you tweet this out? Has anything like this ever happened?

I'm in total awe right now.

The funniest part in this email, is a Russian guy, saying he has information about shady Clinton dealings with Russian that would incriminate her... loooool you can't get more meta than this

Pence is noping out of this one.
I wish he'd tell Trump to stop talking about the campaign as well

She was just parroting the media.

I'm actually concerned that the e-mail says the information was on Hillary's dealings with the Russian government. That makes it sound like she might have her own backwater dealings. After we lop off Donny and the Gang's heads for treason, I would like a similar investigation opened against her.

Oh boy, another Clinton investigation. As if those have no been occurring for 5 years now.

I don't even understand this. It's actual fake news right here. There's no reporting happening, just random questions. 'Were democratic operatives involved?' - Um, you tell me, do you have someone saying they were, any sort of evidence (e-mails? lulz) to back that up?

Like he may as well be like; 'Did aliens use mind control to make Don Jr. create these e-mails?' - 'The question remains; did Hillary Clinton clone Don Jr. and force the clone at gunpoint to collude with Russia?' - 'Is Putin a secret democrat plant?'

Until they've got evidence or someone saying these things who can speak to them on air, it's actual fake news.

Pence is noping out of this one.
Washington Post said:
To review: On May 8, former acting attorney general Sally Yates testified to the Senate Intelligence Committee that the White House kept former national security adviser Michael Flynn for 18 days after she told the White House counsel that he was vulnerable to Russian blackmail. (Pence has always sought to distance himself from the Flynn affair: After Trump asked for Flynn's resignation in February, Pence maintained that Flynn misled him about the conversations he had with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, playing the part of the duped, but loyal, soldier.)

Then, after that Yates testimony on May 8, Trump engaged in probably the most self-destructive sequence of actions of his presidency. On May 9, he fired Comey. The next day, he met with Kislyak and Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov in the Oval Office, telling them that firing the ”real nut job" Comey had eased ”great pressure" on him from the Russia investigation. And the day after that, Trump admitted on national television that he had fired Comey because of the ”Russia thing." Finally, on May 12, Trump posted his tweet hinting that he may have recorded his conversations with Comey. (He hadn't.)

One week later, Pence filed the Great America Committee papers, marking his break with the traditional arrangement for political fundraising between presidents and vice presidents.

The traditional arrangement is based on the expectation that the president and vice president will together run for reelection. But Pence's activities seem to signal doubts about whether there will even be a Trump-Pence ticket to run in 2020. We are not yet six months into Trump's term, and each new revelation in the burgeoning Russia investigation seems to heighten the possibility that Trump could either no longer be president, or at least no longer be a viable reelection candidate, in 2020.

Pence is perhaps preparing for just that potentiality. If he were confident that the Russia investigation is ”fake news" or a ”hoax," as Trump has maintained, he would be hewing to the traditional vice-presidential path. Instead, he's making his own plans — which may show just how worried he is that the Russia investigation is going to come crashing down on his president.

Washington Post: Is Mike Pence betting it will all come crashing down on Trump?
