NYT: Two White House Officials Helped Give Nunes Intelligence Reports

Even if the impeachment hearings/proceedings started now I think it would take until next year to even reach any final conclusions/actions. Especially with how compromised it seems the GOP party/trump team is, it certainly wouldn't be much of a smooth, fast process.

At the rate things are going I'd be surprised if he makes it a year

I don't see him lasting the year..

I hate to ruin your hopes and this purely anecdotal but I was flipping channels and HLN interviewed 8 Trump voters and asked them to rate him and they all gave him an "A" for trying to get things done and exposing the broken political system. They also stated that he hasn't been given a chance and stated that he had several wins.

Is Nunes-gate big enough to bring down Trump if he's proven to be involved? We might not even need the Russia investigation to finish if it is.

None of this will matter if this scandal goes all the way to the top... He gets impeached no matter what if he's found to be compromised.

They interview people who never budge. That doesn't mean the majority of people perceive him to be untouchable. Some people will never change, that's a fact.

I feel like it's a good time to bring up the fact that impeachment doesn't necessarily mean removal from office. Remember, Clinton was impeached.

That's honestly irrelevant at this point

People called Romanes they go the house?
If the Watergate coverup from Nixon was big enough to get him ousted, then surely.

Nixon was directly involved in both the ordering of the break-in as well as the coverup. We're still 'unsure' on Trump's direct involvement in this aspect.

If it turns out to be true, that should be enough...but then again, a lot of other stuff has already been potentially impeachable.

It doesn't matter, his base isn't big enough.

Treason <> blowjob lies.

The fervor surrounding trump supporters bordered on damn near worship for some people

We need these people to snap out of it or get the fuck out of the way

It strange it took republicans this long but they saw Trump as an asset to push shit they wanted

Now they are finally thinking twice about making deals with devils to get what they want

Fuck them all I hope they lose every election from this day forward

He was half impeached but only the house and not the senate or vice versa. You need both. He just quit if I remember, not impeached.

His wins are all in their head. When he's removed from office either by congress or the next election the next president will rescind every one of his crap EOs that does survive judicial challenge. Since he hasn't got shit through congress it's easy enough to do.

Impeachment is just the trial process to determine whether he needs to be removed. He was successfully impeached by the House. Senate acquitted him, but he was impeached.

It'll bring down Nunes, not Trump.

Trump will throw his aides and Nunes under the bus if he has to. He can just say the information was given to him, not requested by him. He'll say his aides found out something and then Nunes backed it up, but he'll never admit it that he knew ahead of time that it came out of a leaked FISA warrant.

It didn't work for Nixon because everyone knew he was smart

Trump has an advantage here because he's a complete idiot and people give idiots a pass
True, look at Iran-Contra. Reagan secretly and illegally sold missiles to people who murdered 300 Marines just a few years before and got away with it because people thought he was senile and harmless.

Yeah, Nixon resigned before the House ever voted on impeachment. But the writing was on the wall. Edit: whoops you were talking about Clinton.

Anymore context?

This is hilarious given they tried to deflect the entirety of the House Open hearing to the leakers and not the leak. This WH cannot hold a consistent tone to save its life.

Let me try to find it. I'm trying to rewind and find the moment. If I heard correctly, he accidentally validated the question.

Found it.

Question: Just to clarify one thing with the NYT story. I know you won't identify Congressman Nunes's sources, but isn't it abundantly clear that at least some White House officials had to be involved in him getting information here because they would need to help him access the complex.

Spicer: Umm... I cannot get into who those individuals were...

Question: Right, but it was someone at the White House...

Spicer: *stammering* Well, no, well again, if I go down the path of confirming or denying one thing, then I'm going down a slippery slope, I've made it, I've made my position very clear.

I at least felt he was momentarily validating the obvious conclusion and the NYT story.

Right, his qualifier was "if he's proven to be involved".

A Serious Man said:
The Watergate scandal involved a lot more than just the cover-up.

I mean this isn't just a Sunday stroll down the park. Lying about a former President and coercing a congressman to save him is serious in of itself. Let alone the claims about the foreigners attempting to get in with Trump's family.

Can someone please draw me a flow chart of all this?

If it's to announce Nunes' recusal, why would Schiff be the one to hold the press conference? If anything, I think it's to explain the situation with the rest of the House committee to make a clear case for why Nunes must be removed from the investigation.

Yeah, I don't think people should expect too much from this presser, just probably more to put more pressure on nunes to recuse himself

No point in getting excited by Schiff presser, he already called for Nunes to recuse himself, which Nunes responded with "nuh uh!"

This is just going to be another demand for recusal. Until Nunes himself announces a presser within hours of additional damning evidence leaking, I'm not gonna get my hopes up.

Besides, we got the Senate and FBI doing (what appears to be) serious work on this. The House is a joke.

Didn't Schiff say yesterday he was meeting with Nunes today? Recusal coming.

Right Schiff was reconciliatory in tone on CNN saying he wanted to get back on the same page with Nunes and how he envied the Senate comittee. So either they met and things are "good" now or this NYT piece has exploded everything again.

Schiff can't do anything except demand that Nunes recuse himself or demand Ryan remove him.

There's also the question whether Nunes' two sources illegally leaked classified info to Nunes

Yes I've given up on this house committee getting anything done. Gonna have to have some faith in the FBI and the Senate.

I'd laugh if Schiff came out and said, "I'm taking over the investigation without Nunes's input, also here's another GOP Rep that I'm working with just to ensure that the committee stays bi-partisan, thanks, bye."

I don't get it. Why didn't he just recuse himself initially? Can't he still do shady shit behind the scenes? His interviews and constant refusals just make him look all the more guilty.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if they were convicted of leaking classified Intel when the admin had been so against leaks

If Ryan sees the writing on the wall for Nunes, he can try to get "ahead" of it by telling Nunes he's out. And letting Schiff look like a Democrat did it.

Nunes serves at the pleasure of the Speaker, who has a real, legitimate shot at becoming president.

Nunes seems stupid and sheepish. One of those video clips had reporters questioning him and he timidly asked, "Can't you guys just stop with the questions?"
