Oblivion Release Date

This game is shaping up nicely. And it seems like its being designed more with the console in mind so that should be a good thing for those not able to run this on the PC (otherwise known as the definitive version).

Is this a launch title in Australia?
Not officially confirmed...but retailers are listing it.

No, it wasn't.
It was on Xbox (horribly slow loading, unusable interface). Speaking as an owner of both GOTY PC+Xbox.

GRAW and Oblivion are the two games I NEED for my X360 and March is looking like it's going to deliver.

I played a ton of Morrowind on my PC, but I'm looking forward to playing this one in a big comfy chair with a large HDTV. Set-up the custom sountrack, get some drinks and snacks around, kiss my girlfriend goodbye, insert the catheter, and get lost in Oblivion! :D

I know Gothic 2 was a similar type of game with a demo. They just planted signs around the boundaries that said "demo limit" or something like that. And right outside of those signs were monsters way beyond your level so you couldn't get far. It'd be nice if they can do something like that with Oblivion, but no, I'm not holding my breathe. :)

Good News. Apparently the Gold announcement will be coming two weeks prior to release. Also, Bethesda has embargoed new information from the final build that journos will be playing all this week until Saturday, so expect new videos, pictures, and impressions.

EDIT: Altered items in bold. Pete shot down the gold announcement for this week, although it was mentioned Morrowind went gold only 2 weeks prior to release.

Prepare to use your entire custom soundtrack collection for one gaming session.

Morrowind had great music on it's own, i'm hoping oblivion is the same. After some time with morrowind i would hear the main exploration music in my head even when i wasn't playing. When i get the game i'm finding the mp3 i ripped from morrowind and using it in oblivion, hopefully it's easy to do in the pc version, it was with morrowind. I'd laugh if i heard someone playing this game with modern style music.

No, it played fine on Xbox.
Agreed. The only thing that made me wish I could have played it on a PC was all the awesome character model mods. The characters in Morrowind were hideously poorly made. Most were ugly, and the main character you made was pathetically skinny and poorly animated. The mods made most character faces not look like a horse ass, improved armor and body build, and even brought cool extra stuff like dual wielding long blades. But Oblivion's character design is much better, I may actually use the third person view this time around. In Morrowind third person view meant actually seeing my character, which killed any remote feeling of being a badass Knight of the Word. (my custom class)

In the pc version people strarted modding in better faces and textures. It's be funny in a year when someone is making face and texture improvement mods for oblivion.

It deleted your saves, lost your items, and crashed. It had a good framerate and that's about all that was fine.
I only experienced two or so crashes in 2 plus years playing the game with the same character, and never lost items or saves. I wouldn't call the framerate good either, but considering what it was running on and how big it was, it was certainly acceptable. I also realize what you said about possible improvements to the characters face models in Oblivion is true, but at least the defualt ones aren't bad. Right from the start the selection of faces in Morrowind absolutely sucked and badly needing improving on.

I think the save bug came about if you horded too many items, which really sucks if your playing morrowind. I took over a small castle and filled it with every cool weapon and item i could find, wish i had pics handy, it was like a museum.

Face modding is a waist anyway, i'd rather gameplay content be added. I read you can build your own spells from scratch with the modding tools, i wonder how it works. The morrowind modding crews seem to be ready for oblivion. Alot of good morrowind modders already have plans for oblivion mods, i see many notices on mod webpages saying "work will begin upon release of oblivion".

Heres a question for the Bethesda guys: will there be more than one piece of music this time? I loved the Morrowind theme- the first 50 times it looped.

Desslock of Computer Gaming World fame is really shitting his pants with delight over this game. He's notoriously difficult to please, and had a lot of bones to pick wioth Morrowind. I am cautiously excited.

Give into the hype! Take off your pants in preperatorial ejaculationious glory. You shall all become one with the Oblivion!
