Oblivion Remastered |OT| Kvatching up with an old hero

I'm having waaay too much fun with this game. Castle Battlehorn is all pimped out and full of exquisite treasures.

I seriously dont understand how they messed up cloud saving on this game. Been playing on my Go..wanted to start playing on my PC...no save file. Apparently, it's an ongoing issue for people.

Other than that...loving this game.

I'm in the middle of The Path of Dawn quest and it's ramping up in great fashion. Also, this the perfect game to sit and play while stoned. Really immersive world for this being my first time playing it. Starting to see why a lot of people like this one over Skyrim.

I guess I dont feel the same as a lot of you. Of course I loved the game back in the day, modded and vanilla. Played the heck out of it. Same with Morrowind and Skyrim.

Playing this doesn't FEEL fresh. I dont know if I can explain it but Im not enjoying it as much as I hoped.

I need a new GPU. Wish I could run this closer to max out.
Just know that it's not solving everything, you still get the occasional stutter. But besides that I play it maxed out in 1440p and it usually hovers around 90-100 fps outdoors and indoors it reach the 120 fps limit I set in Nvidia control panel.

Shouldn't be this power hungry though. Avowed is in UE5 too and runs smooth as butter compared to Oblivion. Guessing Oblivion demands more because they run Creation Engine as the brain underneath Unreal Engine 5 like they said, it's a unique/weird setup.

A showcase of some more non-zoomed dialogue shots along with a few scenery captures:

So i finally installed the game on my SSD instead of HDD. Loading is faster now.
I'm just wondering why no one uses the Windows 11 Direct Storage feature to load even faster.
Also i'm working through my questlog and try not to get more quests so that i'm overloaded with quests. I haven't started the Fighters Guild because of that since i wanna clear out my current quests first.
But i have a question, are the quests time-dependent when i receive them? Or can i take my time with them and do them at any leisure?

You're asking for Direct Storage when they are literally running an engine from early 2000s to process the game logic.

Sunk 5 hours into this game across the weekend. I know those are rookie numbers but that's the most flat screen gaming I've done in ages.

Sure, why not. There are ways, you never know.
jk you probably right
Also i'm playing with the thought of applying this mod "Auto Upgrade Leveled Items" which scales your loot with your level.

Level 20 baby!!! The description for level 15 made it seem like there was a cap but it was just flavor text.

Right around 26 hours as a red guard fighter. Just skipping thieves, brotherhood, and mages for a second play through.

Plus I'm reading alot more of the books about tamriel history. I never knew or cared what was happening in Skyrim politically but now I wanna go back and start Skyrim over later this year

I actually love it, what's your main issue? But he's the game is awesome, always been an rpg gem!
I guess my main issue is that I suck at it 😂 50 year old reflexes? Burned through so many of them I actually got stuck on a main mission where I had to pick an easy lock to get into somebody's house as I had none left. Had to go exploring locations to stumble across lockpicks, as I couldn't even find a merchant selling any!

I've looked at the tutorials and I still suck. I definitely preferred Skyrim's implementation!

The lock picking in this game is straight up rubbish! Apart from that, enjoying this so far.
Yeah. Definitely a skill I need to get better at. I'm also on the hunt for more lock picks because I've broken all mine.

Hmm, I thought this was fixed? When the game first released, I couldn't see my saves from Steam on my PC via Steam on my ROG Ally X, but then since yesterday I can. Just assumed one of the hotfixes fixed it since it started working, at least for me.

Don't sleep on the Mephala daedric quest. You gotta be level 15 but it's worth it. Super cool quest and you get the Ebony Blade for completing.

I don't have any stutter at all as is, so can't imagine improving my GPU would give me any.

Avowed ran great for me also, though limited FPS to 30-40. Oblivion actually gets better FPS overall, but I also have to run it at slightly lower settings.

Alteration magic has lockpicking spells.

I haven't checked out most of the player houses you can have I'm sure, but the shack is all I need. Sure it's no castle battlehorn but it's got a bed, cupboard for misc crap, chest and a cozy fireplace in a neat little package in addition to being in a quick to get to area. Not sure if I'll find a place I'll like better.

How is it this game looks leagues better than Avowed (which also uses UE5). This remaster looks incredible to me.
Avowed looks awesome.. at least in terms of environment and environmental design. Not sure I agree that Oblivion looks better, but they both look great to me. What I love most about this is that we can get the visual benefits of UE without having to sacrifice the underlying game logic from Creation Engine/Gamebryo.

I might ruin lockpicking for both of you but there is a way to quickly cheese it to trait level 100. Go to any hard-level lock. Once you're on it, move your lockpick to the final 5th pin (it should already be up) and spam A (X on Playstation) or whatever button you would use to normally set the pin in place.

You will hear the trait leveling noise because you're literally leveling the trait up, all while not breaking any lockpick at all.

The 100th master level gives you two advantages: Other pins no longer drop down when you fail one, and also every pin now moves at the slowest speed for an easy click.

If you are on PC, you need to check this out, it makes a massive difference:

Huge improvement imo. Gets rid of the hazy and sometimes flat look vanilla produces

I'm on a 3080 and same. Honestly feels like it did back in 2006, lol. I started out running the OG on a 9800 Pro and upgraded to a 7600 GT for it. Of course, 30 FPS was my target back then. 60 FPS felt like a luxury, let alone 90+.

Hah I hear ya, here's the best tip I can give is tap it a few times to sorta get your bearings... But when it hits the top let it sit for like one second, don't instantly click... Let it rest for a split second when it's at the top.

I get the occasional stutter but it's not really bothering me. Haven't tried it on the couch PC yet, there I have no vrr sync so a dip under 60 would be an unmissable drop to 30, would no doubt annoy me.

This is the way - get a feel for them and proceed a little more slowly. While I like the Fallout/Skyrim game better and find it to be more fun/interesting/intuitive, I do like Oblivion's system as well.

Oblivion is amazing for that, every quest no matter how small felt like it was a story. Skyrim felt like everything was a rush.

I keep getting distracted by other games. I've only made it out of the tunnel lol. People say there are no games these days. So many I can't decide what to play.
