Oblivion Remastered |OT| Kvatching up with an old hero

They added Upscaling options back to the GP PC version this morning. 2GB patch to remove them the other day, and now a 2GB patch to add them back in. :messenger_grinning_sweat:
Seems like they also fixed some bugs, mostly the screen reflections being broken and the "moon through the trees" bug.

Although it may or may not be fixed or have occurred to begin with depending on your configuration.

Unfortunately I'm still have the weird reflections issue with Screen Space Reflections enabled. I tried both Lumen modes and it still does it.

If you are on PC, you need to check this out, it makes a massive difference:

Huge improvement imo. Gets rid of the hazy and sometimes flat look vanilla produces
You know I spent ages deciding whether to use SW or HW Lumen but ultimately it didn't feel a big enough difference to justify the stability issues. This looks far more impressive.

Ah just had my first crash at just over 10 hours in the moss rock cavern. Fighting the named necromancer and completely locked up on me. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

This is not big enough difference?
Outside looks like flat looking ugly piece of shite without HW lumen..

"Fans still love the Bethesda formula. Oblivion Remaster shows that fans still want these kinda games. In newer games they abandoned their own formula"
Interesting video

@avalonzero but it is only one time when you first start the game

Ironically, this is like a procedurally generated video, repeating the same points over and over again...

Am I glitched? I just got Sean beans character from the oblivion portal in kvatch. On the way taking him to the safe spot up north I found another oblivion portal. Should I be seeing these?

Alright Papitos, I think I'm done with Oblivion for the time being. Lots of city specific and Deadra quests left but I want to put some time in Expedition 33 now. Will revisit this again, of course.

No fitting way to end my current journey than becoming the next Mad Prince.

8bitDo Ultimate 2 is now working. Thank God. Now I can move in all directions and get it done. That said, I just completed a long-ass quest line that came up when I found myself getting fucked by day time. Vampirism.
After completing it I left to work. Can't wait to continue. 😎

Damn man, the game just came out... I am still looting dungeons around Chorrol. I got wrecked by overencumbrance and poison inside Wendir Ayelid ruins and focusing on restoring Castle Battlehorn for the time being. Contemplating retrieving Fingers of the Mountain after that.

The only quest I have that shows me a place to go is the thieves guild. Now I'm running circles inside of an oblivion portal. GPS in video games really came along way after this.

If you have it, use the Clairvoyant spell, it draws a line to your next objective market.

Even people I know who aren't working haven't gotten that far. adamsapple adamsapple might just be an expert at min-maxing or something.

In this case, basically yes. The achievements are just completing all main and guilds quests, there's nothing really out of the way here like get level 30 or some such.

Once I got the Skeleton Key, completing Thieve's and Dark Brotherhood are a cakewalk since those rely on a lot of lockpicking.

It's a permanent race with him always and he doesn't work
🤷🏻‍♂️

Papito the only way you'll beat a game before me is if I'm not playing it at all :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Did they fix the fucked up Gamepass version yet for PC? I've been waiting for that patch to get back to it.
If you mean the AI upscaler, it's back on GP version as of today.

If I recall correctly it is some point during the quest you're on they start appearing - maybe even just going to Kvatch the first time.

Weird for me, just wandering around (haven't been to see Jauffrey yet at all) and I see them on my map marker (Oblivion gate) but there's nothing actually there.

Guys, I understand why people always said Oblivion is better than Skyrim. As a Skyrim enjoyer I have to confess, Im having way more fun with Oblivion and I agree.

A lot of the story decisions in Skyrim don't make sense once you've played Oblivion. By the time you're made head of the Thieves Guild in Skyrim you're still running around selling enough stolen items to impress some middleman in Oblivion.

The dumbest one is being made head mage at Winterhold after about 2 hours of quests.

What should be my weapon damage on expert mode where i can start killing people with less than 25+ hit, because for now every fight has been evoke skeleton dude to distract enemies and me doing shit damage from behind (skelly kills at least 60% of them because he does 4x times my damage).

Right now i'm level 12 and i have a daedra sword that does 9 damage and some fire damage and i just closed the first story oblivion portal.

Btw about the oblivion portal, wow that was a shit ass dungeon if i ever seen one, nice aesthetic but fighting 2-3 dudes in a cramped space was definitely something, thank god for save scumming :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Yeah, this pissed me off so hard in Skyrim....it wasnt even funny anymore.

Bought yesterday the deluxe version, created my mage and had a quick look...and oh boy....this game looks good now. :messenger_smiling_hearts: Doesnt even have huge performance problems. I think I am completely immune to this "stutter"-thing everyone is talking about. I just cant see or recognize it. Game runs awesome and I have a long weekend incoming....which will be 100% Oblivion. :messenger_peace:

Jesus. How many hours did it take you to do that?

Do those at least! Daedra quests are usually the most interesting ones in any TES game.
I met the followers of...was it sheobarth (sp) all hanging out by a daedra statue. Think I'll start that quest today.

I'm playing red guard fighter but skipping thieves, brotherhood, and mages guild for another run. Gonna skip the shivering isles too until then so I have plenty to try new on another run.

Anyone else play like this?

Intentionally leaving out quests? No.
I want my first playthrough to be the best experience possible.

I wouldn't leave out the Shivering Isles dlc. But aside from that, yeah, whenever I play a TES game I skip any factions that don't match with whatever character role or build I'm playing as.

Did anyone experience more issues when doing the Shivering Isles expansion? Game works fine everywhere else but the moment I go to this area it becomes a crash fest.

It's so bad I'm considering putting it on hold until it is (hopefully) improved.

Kinda. I think it's lame to play a Mage and then join the Mages, Thieves, and Fighters Guilds.

Actually preferred how Morrowind would limit what you could join based on what guilds you are already a part of.

Yeah, that's a good strategy. Generally I go where I feel like and end up, but often that does include missing a guild or two. IE this time around (though I've played Oblivion many times mind you), I'm playing a warrior spellswordish guy with light stealth/stealing, but aiming for the fighter's guild and probably main quest. I'm open to the thief guild and DB, but definitely won't be doing the mage's guild.

Yeah. I never actually finished Skyrim so I thought of try a different strategy and keep the run smaller. Playing like he's limited to melee and some destruction and restoration magic. Making it more role playing

I did a playthrough just a year or so ago that was with an almost exclusively magic character and did the Mage's Guild with her, but that was almost it. No thief/DB/etc, she had no sneaking or anything like that, so it didn't make much sense to me even though you could definitely do it all.

Yep, this absolutely needs to come back. I don't like omnicharacters (I know you don't "have" to join them, but I prefer Daggerfall and Morrowind's restrictions or in some cases, literal progression in certain guilds locked you out of others for legit reasons because they were intertwined).

Just in case this wasn't posted already... You can run Oblivion on the Steam Deck at mostly medium settings by tweaking the INI files.

I tried out the settings in the article and it looks and runs amazing.
What's the FPS inside Oblivion gates?

What's the FPS inside Oblivion gates?

I locked my fps at 30, but it almost never goes below that in the Oblivion gates. I suspect it'd be in the 40s without the lock. I only see it dip in the over world (mid 20s) as the game loads or if there are crazy amount of NPCs on screen. During courtyard battle in Kvatch it tanked to 18fps lol but those moments are rare.

Visually the game looks amazing on Deck with the INI modifications. It doesn't look that far off from what you'd get on a higher end PC. It's a massive shame they don't have Deck settings included because it looks like a blurry mess without the mod. There are some minor graphical issues like shimmering on leaves, but this is already being worked out and there are solutions in the comments of the mod.

FYI and a PSA for folks.

One of the later main story quests will have a key character want a Deadric artifact. The game has like 20 of those. If you are like me, you probably have the Skeleton Key as it is the single most useful item in the game.

Don't fucking hand it over, lol. Or you'll lose it forever. Just look up the nearest deadric shrines for the easiest ones of those quests you can do.

The first hour was pure joy, then after three more hours I wanted to quit, because speaking to people in towns felt pointless as they all said the same things and nobody had side quests for me, but now I'm fifteen hours in with more quests than I can manage and staying up late to play more haAhaHAhahA

they all said the same things
Really? The "rumors" option repeats a lot, sure, but I could swear most NPCs have unique dialog when you ask them about the place you are in.

(For example, choosing "Anvil" when you are talking to an NPC in Anvil)

Using DLSS and have awful ghosting an objects when panning the camera or moving. Most noticeable when using a bow or when moving past foliage, its a big fucking smear of textures and looks terrible. When I went to display options, game just straight up crashed.

As much as I absolutely adore Oblivion, this is now starting to test my patience. 5 crashes in 10 hours, it might not sound too much but when you run the same dungeon twice it starts to become frustrating.

Fix your fucking shit Bethesda/Virtuous!

I am having some ghosting too, but it's weird - I didn't have any ghosting for the first few days. I also finally had my first crash after about 10 hours - mixing up a lot of potions and suddenly kerplow.
