BUAHAHAHAHAHA SO FUNNY, PEOPLE ARE GETTING BRUTALIZED BY POLICE!

You're an idiot.
cmon now, that foto looks a lot more like he's being arrested than being brutalized.

slightly off topic but has the ny daily news always been so right wing? either people are really fucking with the polls on the site or theres only 5 people that vote, majority of them being right wing.

The look and the guys face pretty much confirms it too.

Internet polls are highly suspect at anytime.

That's why Rain has on average, if not for Time discounting the votes, been Times Person of the Year each year.

There was a link earlier that he posted w/ that thread that wasn't quoted....don't know if the person meant to do that.......

But the link was saying how up to 5 were pepper sprayed and that 80 were arrested.

The attorneys representing the group said 100 were arrested. Of course, attorneys are all lying cunts so there you are.

As does this entire thread.

I mean somewhere in the chasm between people trying to pretend that this was some grand demonstration crushed by the police state and... whatever the fuck Manos and his copycats are doing... is the realization that this whole idea was a missed opportunity.

...to? Burn wall street and throw the capitalistic pigs off of the towering skyscrapers that they themselves built up with the money bled from our veins?

Sounds good. Give them a literal golden parachute and try to aim them onto a big pile of cash.

What a horde of trolls, most of you are. So disgusting to watch ANY group of people, whether you agree with them or not, get pepper sprayed, roughed around, and arrested by police, period. It's worse when the people are peacefully protesting some detestable shit that corporate america / wall street has gotten away with. The display in this thread of misogyny, close-mindedness, immature mocking, refusal to address valid discussion or points, and general fucking hate towards people who are against getting screwed by their government is fucking gross. You guys are worthless and juvenile, and I hope you find enough meaning in your little lives to one day find pleasure elsewhere than making fun of people more motivated than you. Sad fucks.
Bring on the "NO U", assholes. You've shown your worth repeatedly.

This.

Yeah we all judge a little, but if a bunch of tin foil wearing weed smoking hippy hipst-tards, or whatever you feel like labeling them today, want to get together and protest some shit thats obviously ruined thousands of lives and degrading far more, why the hell would you laugh at them and tear them down? This kind of expression is what this country was born on, or at least these types of acts.

I'd gladly trade you for some Somalian citizens or something if I had it my way. You obviously think a little protest against a pretty obviously wrong-doing is hilarious bullshit, so I'm sure you wouldn't mind letting people who at least care the slightest bit take your seat here. But then again hey, there's a price we pay for such basic freedom, we have to put up with fuckholes who nibble away and tear down positive things like this, for shits and giggles.

EDIT: And to clarify, I don't necessarily think this protest would have even done anything, but I hate, hate, hate people making fun of their basic SPIRIT. Not tearing down that kind of intention is literally, the LEAST any person can do, especially one's who aren't doing shit in the first place.

I don't think that anyone (okay, maybe Manos) is against the people's right to protest perceived wrongs and bring attention to social ills that they feel need to be corrected. I can't speak for anyone else in this thread, but my impression is that most of the people here that are being critical of the protest (except for maybe Manos) are doing so because of a perceived lack of sincerity on the part of the protesters.

Maybe this is because a biased media has deliberately painted this picture of them by picking and choosing the images that they show of the people participating in the protest, but the individuals shown do not come off as the representatives of an oppressed lower class, but rather as young members of the upper-middle and upper class who are bored and who have nothing better to do than to put a witty saying or an internet meme on a sign and hang out together. Again, this could be because that is how the media is framing the protest (when they cover it), but when their official twitter account is sending out cute messages, for instance, asking that people send vegan or vegetarian pizzas instead of meat pizzas, well, I have a hard time taking them seriously.

If they want to be taken seriously, then they need to act like they take it seriously, too. Don't provide ammunition for their marginalization by mixing with the 4chan/Anonymous crowd and their lolcats. Use social media more responsibly.

If in this you're exclusively referring to Manos, I might agree.

I take it that you also support the Tea Party for promoting the spirit of fiscal responsibility? Despite that their proposed solutions to balancing the budget are dumb as rocks?

These guys are no different. If we were to replace a democratic capitalist-leaning, mixed economy with an anarchist society, or a centrally-planned economy, most people would certainly be vastly worse off.

Their grievances are fine, but their solutions are dumb, and people should not support them when they're promoting dumb policies.

Nope, I'm not the moron spamming this thread because people are peacefully protesting against corporate America that has left this country in ruins because of its greed.

This.

Also, the the foot in mouth first few days of the protest didn't help with their confused petulant messages and attempts to compare themselves with the protesters from the Arab spring.

But seriously, people are overly defensive in this thread. Learn to accept people can look down on what appears ti be unorganised hippies and still share some of the hippie ideas. Sure corporations have too much influence in politics, whatever. Squatting is not going to do jack shit.

I'll send them a couple of vegan pizzas as a way of an apology.

those chicks ate that pepper spray, damn. any reason given? random pepper spraying seems pretty fucked up IMO

dude shouting police brutality at the first arrest...really? really?

I'd love to know too. They were within the netting. They weren't trying to get out of it. Spraying them was wrong. And i agree that the dude shouting that crap was annoying as all hell.

God these hippies are embarrassing, even if I agree with them somewhat. I imagine this is what some social conservatives feel about the Westboro Baptist Church; disapprove of the homosexual lifestyle and its prevalence in popular culture but facepalm at idiots screeching at soldier's funerals. Or PETA, or the a-holes who murder abortion doctors.

I'm sure these hippies are nowhere near as terrible as the examples I named, but they still undermine their "cause." Who can take a movement seriously when it is spearheaded by these jokers *facepalm*

better then than yet another corporate lobbyist "fighting" on our behalf. i is downright shameful what Giuliani and Bloomberg have done in terms of people being able to peacefully protest. protesters have to stand behind a netting now, what a shame.....

Where is this dream place you speak of?

This reminds me of the irrational hipster hate threads in which the people complaining about them are more insufferable that the actual hipsters. It makes my head hurt reading through it.

Hey Manos, Fuck you man, You are a grade-A asshole, regardless of how you feel about the system, laughing and deriving entertainment from the suffering of others makes you a shit-stain on society.

If you're suggesting that the government plays no significant role in most economies today, you're wrong. If you're suggesting that most economies today are not guided by market forces, you're also wrong.

If you mean a lot of the world is undemocratic, well, ok. I suppose I should have given my second response a little more thought.

Would that still have been the case if they have paid for a permit? <- Ignorant

you know i was there today and i felt like it was really something special seeing all those posters on the ground with basically a lot of shit that i believe, but not really do much about

they were chanting stuff which i didnt really want to stick around for because im trying to cram as much nyc in as possible but really it was a nice atmosphere going on they were giving out food to the protesters and well its a shame i came back to the apartment to find this going on

This really bothers me. Nothing makes me take people less seriously than when they think it's okay to quote internet memes outside of the internet.

It's even worse for a protest. Then there's the lack of a unified of message. Other than fuck Wall Street I mean.

Look, slapstick humor is one thing, laughing at people getting pepper sprayed for no good reason is another. It reminds me of the people who cheered for executions and for an uninsured man dying. That callousness to fellow human beings is disgusting.

...or like idiots getting tasered and dudebros losing fights? A bit of a stretch to compare this to an execution.

Though i'm sure the protesters would love to be seen as martyrs.

+1

This thread is making me shake my head so much. Bunch of fucking assholes. People can't even protest anymore without getting pepper sprayed. If anyone lifted so much as a chair police would open fire and people like Manos would be lol'ing all day just because he thinks everyone who protests is some loser hippie.

I'm not comparing the two events, I'm saying I am disgusted by people who have that callous attitude towards other people.

These two instances, the people in the crowd cheering for executions; cheering for an uninsured man dying, and people in this thread (and im sure in youtube comments) are examples of that callousness that exists in this society.

Check the article the douchebag posted. It was a bunch of women that had been pepper splayed, one of them crying.

Where is this attitude at any clip of someone being hurt?

This outrage seems to be more politically motivated than actual empathy. To use this video as an indictment of our morality by comparing it to executions and death is a stretch.

Being pepper sprayed tends to make you cry.
