Octodad: Dadliest Catch Review Thread

Love to read a review when the reviewer has no fucking clue what the game is all about and give it a shit score, just like the very first western Monster Hunter reviews.

Enjoying the game so far. Disappointed it's short but at least it's got the Workshop stuff.

That CVG review is honestly one of the worst game reviews I've ever read. The author so thoroughly missed the point that it's comical.
Wow, what a shit review
The credits lists about a dozen core staff who worked on the full game, and most indie teams of this size wouldn't go near a 3D adventure game. A project of such scope usually requires art divisions bigger than the entire Young Horses team.
Oh so ambition means nothing. The tone is almost like "They're idiots for attempting something like that" rather than applauding their ambition. Oh, and Overgrowth begs to differ

It is reviewing well. But pointing out stupidity when a reviewer seems to have missed the entire point of the game is well within our rights.

The point of the game is that it's a random novelty with often frustrating controls and a weird inclusion of a stealth section. If a reviewer wants to criticise the controls, why not let them? Criticising the game is well within their rights. Who are you to say they're wrong?

They're not wrong, they're just missing the point. The controls are meant to be silly.

Criticizing the game is within their rights. Criticizing their review is within our rights

But yes. Not everybody will enjoy the game. Not everybody will like it's gimmick. Welcome to the world of reviews people

Beat it in two hours. Delightful little game, though the later sections are pretty frustrating, and I wish it was longer.

Well sure, but then it just gets to a roundabout argument of "I don't like what you like" - something which should be evident already.

Edit: Didn't see your last sentence, haha.

I expected rave reviews, but I got polarising reviews instead. Still very interested in playing the game, but if it's really as short as some are saying then I hope it's priced accordingly on PSN.

it won't be. £10 at a guess

Is there motion control for this game?

At $12, I'm in day one. My gf is gonna love this.
edit: I assumed it would be $12 day one with PS+ discount... we'll see what happens.

I would have bought this in an instant, but it seems a bit expensive for such a short game?

It's about the length of Journey or Gone Home. If the length to price ratio bothered you there, you would probably feel the same here.

Seriously. Can we go back to $9.99 being the standard for downloadable games and $4.99 being for the smaller titles? Now they're priced at $9.99 and $14.99. Oh well...this is supposed to be free with PS+ right?

I hope there is some type of demo. Judging from all the videos I can't tell if I will love it or really dislike it.

When was that ever a standard and why should downloadable games be constrained to those prices?

They had one at Best Buy and I think some others have said Gamestop. Hopefully they'll release it for everybody later.

I played the demo and thought it was great. It gave me a good laugh

After watching the trailer, a stealth section sounds hilarious.

I think Splinter Cell or Thief where your movements are precise and calculated, and then an octopus put into that situation flopping around and knocking things over.

Here is my website's review over at MiddleofNowhereGaming (MONG).

Tldr -- I really liked it, $15 is justified for 2-3 hours of non-stop smiling, laughing, and getting the catchy theme music stuck in your head.

I much prefer shorter games that know their mechanics and don't overstay their welcome.

Price/length ratio is such a foolish argument.

Game sounds hilarious throughout.

I do wonder if all the "reviewers" played all the way through based on some of the reviews that dog the second half of the game.

It's 2 hours long. I would be shocked if most didn't play it to completion. If they didn't, that's just stupid.

I shall buy this. Always wanted to be an Octopus in a 3-piece suit.

As someone who reviewed the game pretty high, yes I played it to completion. The second half of the game was weaker in some respects, however I have to imagine the really harsh reviewers were just bad at the game.

A lot of these reviews seem to focus on the 7 mini-games in the Aquarium stage. Yeah it is sometimes hard, but the whole thing took me more than 10 minutes.

With the exception for the climax, a lot of these negative reviewers are focusing super heavy on the length and quirks compared to the hilarity of concept and game. Pointing out plotholes seems like a ridiculous point.

If a game is able to make me smile for a short 2 - 3 ride with, at times, difficult controls then it is worth the buy. I understand a lot of the criticism but think anything outside of the range 6.5 - 8.5 is slightly unwarranted.

This game looks like a real delight. I played a demo and it was very bizarre and difficult to get the hang of (as would be the case when you're playing as an octopus in a suit) but charming, and I'd like to play more. I see it's available for Mac, which is great for me. Any chance of it coming to Wii U, though?

Out of curiousity, why is Octodad taking its sweet time to get to the PS4?

There was a thread a few weeks back, in summary they had an agreement with Steam to get it out on the PC first, before other platforms. Also I think there were some monetary limitations but that should change when the buy buttons keep on clicking.

Game is awesome. It's short (like 2 or 3 hours) but it's really damn hilarious. Can't wait to see the workshop stuff.
