Just got my Quest 2 today, and I’m simply blown away!

Played Moss and unless something really awesome comes out or it becomes bad later on it’ll be my GOTY. I’m in love. It’s really amazing.

Got wireless VR working with vrdesktop from PC too. Played some No Man Sky, I’ve played this game in nearly 500 hours but it felt like a completely new game now. Took awhile until I understood the controls and realized you could move around freely, the preset option was teleportation. Grabbing the throttle and flight stick to fly the spaceship got me laughing uncontrollably from being so amazed lol, it’s sooo cool!

Surprised to see so little latency when playing wireless, there were some stutter though but I guess it can be the game, NMS has never run perfectly.

Just watching the desktop and some movie if you change the surrounding VR theme to hometheater was awesome.

Only downsides I’ve noticed so far is:
1. Battery life. Played maybe 2.5 hours. Empty battery.
2. Ouch! This thing is not comfortable to wear any longer play sessions.
3. If you wear glasses inside the VR glasses you’re risking to scratch both the VR lenses and your glasses. The distanser isn’t big enough.

Elite strap with battery is OP and a must IMO. The battery actually makes it more comfortable by counter balancing the headset.

Just played Half Life Alyx. Holy shit. I spent forever on the balcony. Walked down the hallway and man, my behavior in vr is so different then normal fps. I'm having so much fun, stoked for horror experiences. That single hallway gave me VIBES.

Cool I need to get that! I’ve seen some reviews and it seems like one of the best VR games out there right now.

Well yeah I’ve been one of them. Tried some early VR years ago and has been ignorant and haven’t realized how much things has improved.
This... is something else!

And I’m super sensitive for motion sickness in normal first person games, so that’s one reason I’ve stayed away.
But I felt nothing at all from Quest 2.
I don’t get it. Why is that??
I even tried a roller coaster game!

Is it because of the higher fps? I have easier to play regular FPS on PC than console, always make sure to play above 60fps and with gsync. Maybe it’s the same with VR and the fps used to be lower on earlier headsets?

Cool I’ll check that out. I think this is my number one problem. Maybe I have a big head or something, as it is I really don’t want to play longer sessions.

Sorry to spam the thread lol just thought of something i need to share. As I said I tried No Man’s Sky wirelessly from PC through VR Desktop. Well, since you have no cable to worry about, what you all need to try is sitting on a comfy chair you can spin. You get 360 degrees rotation and you’re using your feet to twist around. It’s awesome!

Its like watching through binoculars. Very narrow field of view. Black bars on the sides. I also see light leackage from bottom. Dissapointed.

Gah this got my hopes up, I used to play the real deal back in my youth, I want a diorama styled Warhammer game so bad! But that game was first person. Could still be cool but I really want a standard high quality turn based Warhammer game.
MS should release Gears Tactics on Quest 2. Not likely to happen but that would be awesome!

I’m thinking it has something to do with the framerate, or maybe latency. Like I said I can barely play first person games on console but on PC it usually work. And the few games I’ve tried so far in VR has worked as well, all with higher fps. The Oculus menu lower the fps and then I can feel something, not bad enough to feel sick though.

I'm fortunately not affected by vr motion sickness so didn't have to get used to it. Played Doom 1, 2, 3 in VR smooth turn no teleport, nothing seems to bother me. Can get the roller coaster 'rush' feeling but fortunately not motion sickness/unpleasantness.
Some people seem to have it chronic and it's taken them a long time gradually getting used to it or some don't develop a tolerance. Must make if more difficult for marketing having someone try something out and feel sick. The awful 2d video/trailers certainly don't give do the platform any justice.

alright, my battery almost completely depleted while playing Myst.

the classic of classics, only heard about, never played - though I played and loved Obduction, available on pcvr.

that fabled island inspiration for so many games, including The Witness, is way smaller than I thought, specially after Obduction and its epic scale environments. Still, a 2 hour session is not enough for a game like this and surely there's more than meets the eye, I just found some dates and countless stories in the books...

not the kind of game Quest kids would like, specially as there are no tutorials nor any direction on how to go, it's all exploration and reasoning. Damn great game, also one of the best looking on Quest.

Had my little ones try it today. Just had them try a short run of Moss and Epic Roller Coaster. And oh boy.

If Facebook could somehow find a way to make it suitable for kids the market would explode. At the moment it’s not recommended for kids under 13 so a short test run is all my monsters get for now. Better safe than sorry.

But I think the market is right at the tipping point ready to explode for teenagers and adults. VR really just needs to be good enough at a cheap enough price point, that hasn’t been the case, until now. And people must be ready to and given the opportunity to try it. It must be experienced I think.

And there needs to be awesome games!
The posibility of playing SteamVR on Quest 2 makes it incredible but it needs more AAA games playable in stand-alone mode.

Yeah its okay. Problem is when for example you see a title screen (2d image) and I cant see it whole - only a part in center. So in games I must rotate a head to see a HUD for example. I dont know maybe Its my high IPD.

Haha that was me as well last night, feels like you’re actually there, especially the ship completely sold it for me, just feeling like you’re actually sitting in the cockpit looking around pulling levers and moving a stick. Sublime!

I got an Oculus Quest 2 this week too (seems I'm not alone).

First day impressions:
- a huge wow factor for sure! Even drawing that guardian boundary and having the grid rise up around you - amazing! Real Star Trek holodeck-style stuff.
- even the main menu room and the "first step" programmes were super impressive
- after the initial set-up and training I went browsed some random Youtube 360 videos. Some of the older ones are a little blurry and choppy (even 4K isn't good enough when stretched 360 around you, you need to go for the 8K+ ones instead). A lot of the travel ones feel like you're flying on a magic carpet. There was one with elephants, which was nice. I stumbled upon a Korean ASMR video, were the pretty woman got right up close and it felt like she looked right into my soul. I had to turn it off after that

2nd day:
- now that I had gotten the hang of it, I decided it was time to show my dad. He would have had zero interest if I had brought home a PS5/XSX, but he couldn't wait to dive into to VR!
- my dad loved it right away. The word "amazing" was said several times. No motion sickness at all. That made me think this really does have mainstream appeal.
- decided to download my first game - Superhot VR. What a trip - a level up from the shooting featured in the basic Oculus tutorial! At one point I was literally laying on the floor, cowering behind an in-game desk to avoid the bullets of the guy in front (I had already thrown all the objects around me and missed, so was pretty much fucked). I had got completely lost in the world created by the game - it really gives the word "immersive" an entirely new level of meaning! I stopped at that point, as I was afraid I was getting too geed up and wouldn't be able to get to sleep (it was already 11pm).
- I normally spend an hour reading a book before bed, but that night I just sat in my reading chair with the book on my lap, unopened. I spent the next hour in deep thought, pondering what effect this amazing new technology will have on society in the next 5-10 years.

3rd day (today):
- downloaded Beat Saber and had fun with that (much less intense than Superhot, seeing as no-one is trying to kill you). Played more of Superhot and loved it, but I think 30 minutes per session is enough for me - it's so intense, mentally and physically.
- watched a few more videos. the "It" horror one is pretty good, but the Stranger Things one wasn't up to much. There are a couple about Tokyo nightclubs, which feature some very attractive women... I could see myself disappearing down some interesting rabbit holes, but for now I'm making a conscious decision to draw a line there and not go any further. Once this tech develops for another 5 years and finds its way into the hands of teenage boys everywhere...the societal effects are going to be big.

I'm going to see how my dad reacts to Beat Saber and Superhot later today. I think the later may prove a little too intense, but we'll see. Man, this tech is crazy. Although I'm sure the Quest 3 will be another big leap, I think this second iteration is already good and accessible enough to become somewhat mainstream. To use regular console generations as a guide, I think the Quest 2 will be like the Megadrive/SNES gen, with VR slowly breaking out of its niche - the Quest 3 will be like the PS1 in terms of mainstream adoption.

It's early days, and maybe my feelings will change as I get more used to it, but right now I can't imagine using this more than a couple of times a week, 1-2 hours at a time. Being whisked off into a completely new world just feels a little too intense to do on a daily basis for hours at a time. I'm beginning to get into the habit of going for a run over the park after my afternoon sessions, just to clear my head and fully return to the real world again. My next purchase will definitely be a more relaxing game - Moss, I think.

I’m still walking on clouds from starting it last night and playing Moss and No Man’s Sky and today some more No Man’s Sky. This is simply amazing. I hope devs start noticing that the market is growing. I want AAA games on this thing.

Oh and you’re going to love Moss! I’m blown away by it, plays great, amazing animation and design.

Yes, but my problem wit NMS VR is that it runs like crap. even worse! I googled how to optimize it (maybe bypass steamvr) and will try it after work. I mean I ran Alyx on ultra but NMS is struggling a lot. especially I suddenly ran out of video memory. something going really, really off with this gamw in particular. and yits very sad because its sublime in VR. 8700k@4.5, 2070S, 32GB.

What settings are you running for NMS? Are you using supersampling? And yes I agree much of it is likely the game and not your setup but with some tweaks you could get it running well.

I would wait. There is a difference but not worth it imo. You get better blacks too with Quest 1. Quest 2 definitely comes out on top overall but not worth it.

I have no frame of reference as Quest 2 is my first. I am stoked for whatever comes next with quest 3. Just a little sharper and wider FOV and we're golden.

I’ve got a Q2. I bought a Q1 just for PC gaming for 2 reasons.
1. The black level is awesome compared to Q2.
2. The resolution on the Q2 is really high and my PC struggled with it. The Q1 was much better.

And the physical combat with sword and knife-throwing feel damn good - as do climbing, eating apples or opening a bottle before drinking. Regular minions of classic sources like jumping slimes, slow but charging undead and fire or poison spitting plants are in, as are shop owners in the depths. Secret passages are in for good measure.

Terrific game overall, being silently and constantly enhanced. Grab now while free in Beta, should be quite a polished game when released... it's what you get when you focus on making a good game rather than shallow interactive toys.

Ooo that looked interesting! Would be cooler with Legend of Grimrock visuals but I’ve played a ton of Minecraft so I’m used to the style. I’ll give it a spin!

Tried Space Pirate Trainer last night, the demo. Ended with an insta-purchase lol. Dual gun action with real bullet-dodging makes you feel like an action hero. Love it!

He loved it but small hands are definitely problematic to reach all buttons so there was still some struggle. He has played through Super Mario Odyssey though so analog sticks is not a problem, it’s reaching the stick while also reaching the trigger and grab button. I was going to come here and point out that Facebook themselves say it's not suitable for under 13s so I've got no idea what you lot are doing strapping it to the faces of your little ones.

If Facebook are saying it themselves there must be a reason right as it's costing them a potential market.

There's another one from that same channel of, I'm assuming an Australian pop star, and.... I felt rather creepy watching it, not sure it should be being promoted by Oculus TV. There's one bit where she's standing in front of you wearing just a towel after being thrown in a pool, and I wasn't sure where to look.

I was going to come here and point out that Facebook themselves say it's not suitable for under 13s so I've got no idea what you lot are doing strapping it to the faces of your little ones.

If Facebook are saying it themselves there must be a reason right as it's costing them a potential market.

A short test run should be fine. But I’m going by that recommendation too, no idea what can actually happen, maybe it can mess up their eyes or something, so like I said better safe than sorry until new info comes out.
I think it’ll be something people are talking more about as VR gets more widespread.

I played with a 7yo in population one (a battle royale game). It horrendous how negligent some parents are. It drives me crazy and they probably think they are great parents getting them a quest.

Goes for gaming at large, lots of parents let their kids play Fortnite and GTA etc with no thought about what they might be learning their kids. We’ve had a rule that they can never play a game where they hurt a human character. I played violent games at 9 and I turned out fine, I think, but at that time game characters where crafted from a few pixels and 16 colors. Today characters look real and the violence looks painful. Can’t be compared what us oldies grew up with.
But maybe that’s a different topic? I can edit my kid posts to not derail the thread.

New owner here so I haven’t played much yet but so far I would say the graphics is like on Switch, but the framerate is usually a lot higher.

Moss is an Unreal Ungine game, while it has lots of polygonal edges and the textures are so-so it still looks absolutely lovely and plays like a dream with super fluid motion. Main character is amazingly well-animated. 2D screens or videos don’t do this game justice, I’ve seen it before in PSVR trailers but it was when I tried it I fell in love. Favorite game so far on Quest 2.

And remember, you can still play your PC VR games on this thing, wirelessly. No Man’s Sky is pretty amazing, takes awhile to get the controls but once you get them you’re really there, the immersion is top notch.

It's much better than PSVR, but you will definitely see the difference between running a game on PCVR and natively.

There's definitely a resolution and effects drop between them on Beat Saber for instance, less specular stuff going on, and the distortion effects caused by the blocks is missing on the native version.

I got an Oculus Quest 2 this week too (seems I'm not alone).



3rd day (today):
- downloaded Beat Saber and had fun with that (much less intense than Superhot, seeing as no-one is trying to kill you). Played more of Superhot and loved it, but I think 30 minutes per session is enough for me - it's so intense, mentally and physically.
- watched a few more videos. the "It" horror one is pretty good, but the Stranger Things one wasn't up to much. There are a couple about Tokyo nightclubs, which feature some very attractive women... I could see myself disappearing down some interesting rabbit holes, but for now I'm making a conscious decision to draw a line there and not go any further. Once this tech develops for another 5 years and finds its way into the hands of teenage boys everywhere...the societal effects are going to be big.

There's another one from that same channel of, I'm assuming an Australian pop star, and.... I felt rather creepy watching it, not sure it should be being promoted by Oculus TV. There's one bit where she's standing in front of you wearing just a towel after being thrown in a pool, and I wasn't sure where to look.

I lurk in this thread just to enjoy the "just got my.." first impressions, I still adore VR but I wish I could erase my memory of it so I could be blown away again. Now I just sort of take it for granted that I can fly around the VR world whenever I want.

Hah, this is the one thing that bugs me - there are some incredible VR180 cameras out there which can do 7, 8 or even 9k 180 video that looks incredible on the high resolution quest screen, almost 20/20 vision perfect. But the only people who own them are porn producers, the average joe who does the sort of nature treks and theme park videos I'd want to watch in VR are stuck with a 5k Vuze or something which is a massive step down in clarity and framerate; so much wasted potential. The Quest 2 GPU especially can decode insane resolution videos but most folks will only ever you the YouTube VR app which maxes out at something like 4.2k.

The YouTube VR app is pretty crappy actually. Really barebones, doesn't let you choose resolutions, can't read comments (yeah yeah I know.. sometimes they're funny ). Works much better in a browser like the built in one or Firefox (which lets you install Ublock)
