I had the 2600 in the very early 80s, here in Brazil. My father would never get one if it were that expensive, man - specially with all import taxes and conversion rates and all. Yet, it was very popular here too.

Up to N64, consoles were always $250 or less. Prices rose up to PS3 disastrous $500-600 and then scale back to around $400 - this is probably how much it cost back then with inflation accounted for consumer electronics...

Quest is doing great for a niche electronics product, but its longevity is not anywhere close to that of a console and in 4 years we may be already on Quest 4 or 5, so unless you sum all of them together, you won't see above 10 million figures... but it's getting more and more, if not popular then at least acceptable and less hateful...

Lol, I don't think you understand inflation and the value of money. The other thing to understand is it was a different time, arcade games at home was truly special thing, worth paying extra for. Today, everyone has tech, tablets, phones, 75" tv's, etc. While the quest does offer an enhanced experience, it's still just another peice of tech in a world jammed with tech.

The problem with vr is the rapid pace that the tech is evolving, it makes such a huge impact on the end user experience. Hateful? Not sure what you mean by that, if you mean me not thinking vr is truly mainstream yet and oculus has faults, that's misguided, I like it.

I just don't like any of the movement options so far. Teleport and analog stick movement both feel clunky and weird. I'm sure someone will find a good solution eventually. There was a concept video where a guy moved by just doing a rocking/walking motion on the spot, something like that.

While first person obviously makes a lot of sense in VR, I think it should also be used more for other genres, there is a ton of potential. The best VR game to date is still Astro Bot IMO.

I took a recommendation from SHIV4 and bought Eleven Table Tennis and it's a great game. Easy to pick up and play anytime, but still takes a lot skill to play at higher levels.

Good to see population one take the top spot, it's ace. It's just so well done and the mechanics and matches just work. The climb anything and flying mechanics are fantastically implemented, just climbing a tall building and then flying is great and add to that the great gunplay etc, it's a blast. The lobbies full up quickly too. Often in the evening you'll get in a lobby almost immediately.

Just grow your VR legs, man - the weirdness soon goes away. "hip locomotion" won't help there.

No in death unchained or Anchient Dungeon.. those are my two favorite single player games on the quest 2. Saints and sinners is a very good game, and probably the closest you will get to a “AAA” game, but you move sooo slow. People should probably stop confusing AAA games with quality games. People are missing out on very good games from smaller developers.

That’s a much better list. Death Horizon is a lot of fun in co-op. I’d say it’s better than Arizona Sunshine which is a little janky. I’m waiting for them to add the last level of co-op before I go back to it Horizon.

Ancient Dungeon VR and In Death Unchained are ridiculously good games.

Just picked up End Space on the Oculus store Daily Deal for $12. Played the tutorial only so far, and it's a cool experience. It's not as pretty as SW Squadrons, but that's to be expected running on the native hardware. Looks like a PS2 game in higher resolution.

I think I diminished the potential wow factor by playing Squadrons from a decent PC. I put in for a refund and now I need to decide between Premium Bowling and Gorn.

Have you heard of this thing called Oculus Rift? Oviously I didn't expect the newer RE games to be native quest titles, have you ever had simple discussion with an actual person in the real world before? Port Beg? I'm buying this for sairento to see if it would be worth getting on the quest as a co-op game. the devs have made it clear they aren't supporting the game any more as they have moved onto their next title. My buddy and I have already finished arizona sunshine, death horizon and were working on finishing path of the warrior and we will be needing an new co-op game.

Same here for SteamVR Mode. Oculus Mode(tethered/link cable) worked fine. Shout out to random reddit user Sandfloor for the fix, you just launch the game from the Virtual Desktop 'Games' button on the side panel and it will correctly detect Oculus Touch controls. This game is trippy!

Sairento are lesser indies but bring some cool mechanics, well worth checking out...

The gameplay footage on this looks crazy. Like a mix of Ghostrunner and Bright Memory. Looking forward to playing it.

psvr has 2 or 3 indies with simple graphics in 120Hz, how do you suppose that will work out for Quest? Perhaps only for pcvr, but then other graphical artifacts... Glad though that guardian issues seem to have been fixed.

The 120 hz will be for pcvr via link/airlink. Racers, and flying games would be fine with a wire, but I would hate playing first person shooters with a wire. PSVR 2 could easily have a wireless solution by having the ps5 endcode in hevc and send out compressed video to the headset like what virtual desktop is doing and airlink will be doing. It takes my geforce 2070 super 4 milliseconds to encode in hevc. I have to imagine the ps5 would be very capable of doing an encode in a similar timeframe.

According to a blog post from Facebook here are the steps to activate Air Link once you get the v28 update, which will happen gradually:

The Air Link PC VR streaming feature is similar in functionality to the work pioneered by Guy Godin’s Virtual Desktop. The developer was blocked from release of his feature on the Oculus Quest store for quite some time — requiring sideloading to activate — until February of this year when Facebook accepted it into store release. We reached out to Godin for comment about the Air Link feature.

Godin’s full comment via direct message to UploadVR:

“In 2017, Facebook copied the base functionality of Virtual Desktop on Rift and incorporated it in their platform, essentially making my app obsolete. I’m not surprised to see them do this again on Quest. They copied the fitness tracking app YUR last year and released Oculus Move; essentially killing the company. They also released App Lab as they saw how popular SideQuest was. That’s what they do. If you have a popular app on Quest today, expect Facebook to copy you and leave you in the dust. As for the fate of Virtual Desktop on Quest, we will have to see how Facebook’s solution competes. Judging by the number of issues plaguing Oculus Link today, I’m confident Virtual Desktop will remain a valuable solution for a while. I’ve also got a lot of cool features in the works that I can’t wait to share with the community.”

had a bit of fun in Rec Room just now - been awhile, but this freemium VR app is a perennial favorite and it's better than ever on Quest - looks like they solved some performance issues and running very smooth and sharp. Had a go at pool and bowling, as well as checked some of the new user created Quests - so many of them now, perhaps because they started to pay creators for their creations? Mind-blowing, huh Dreams?

it's no mistake that this has become the first VR game studio valued over 1 billion. You can create stuff directly from within VR itself and all framework for multiplayer games is easily accessible and very physical in VR.

Not everyone may enjoy RR standard mii-like looks, but it may still grow to be one of VR defacto metaverse hubs...

I like to play in a big room space. I like to use snap turn when I run out of space to turn around and walk. I also like just physically turning around rather than using sticks when I can. I know you can play and play very well sitting down. I’d imagine it would be optimal to play population one in a swivel desk chair.

Being wireless gives you more freedom if you have a large play space like I do though and a lot of people enjoy playing like this.

whatever my views on wireless or Quest minigames, there's no denying Quest is the most advanced VR/AR headset ever, despite being so cheap. There's nothing out there offering such amazing features as it is, things like this are eerily futuristic:

couple this with using real keyboard and mouse and you're now in AR territory, but through the other way: you're bringing the tactile feedback of real world objects into your virtual environment instead of layering a few virtual objects atop your messy living room - a better proposition in my view.

Sony will focus on games (big games hopefully), not likely to enter this soon this fight between Facebook and Apple for the virtual home office of the close future... can you spell productivity when you're immersed in a quiet virtual office showing your real pc content in a big virtual screen while in the real world your kids are playing or putting the house on fire?

Google, Amazon, Microsoft, most of the apps on your phone, your government, etc.

The productivity app Immersed has hand tracking and keyboard location calibration. The layout won't be exactly the same for certain keys, but it works pretty good overall. This app is great and gives you a glimpse into how effective this setup can be, especially looking forwards to lighter and higher resolution headsets with better hand tracking.

Just got one today, amazing piece of tech. Went to use it with SteamVR and Oculus Link, then got a white horizontal bar 5ish minutes into Arkham VR.

Not setting up again tonight, but hopefully not using SteamVR fixes the issue and still allows all the other Steam benefits.

It's a third party version from a company called VR Cover, they're a bit like AMVR.

What they supply is a cut-down package from what they sell themselves, as their version comes with the Eye Cover and an additional cleaning cloth, which isn't in the Oculus Version.

But it feels much better on my face than the standard one, only downside is it can get sweaty if you're playing a vigorous game.
