Oculus Rift - Dev Kit Discussion [Orders Arriving]

Well, how about that.. I guess "about to ship" has a different meaning to them then the rest of the planet then, LOL.

Barring any unforseen issues it would be 1-2 weeks. If you are in the U.S., unfortunately there is a customs issue holding up orders since late May, and we don't know when it will be resolved.

I guess it had its own thread when the announced that Surgeon Simulator was adding TF2 characters, Hydra and Oculus Rift support but... that game is really, really funny.

For some reason things I pick up usually slip and fall, but having two hands at the same time and being able to twist them like *this* and *that* really helps. And the Oculus! It looks pretty damn great.

Just some crazy speculation based on links I've stumbled upon today: are Razer and Sixense about to release a new Hydra + MakeVR bundle?

Razer is running a promotion where you have to guess the "revolution" they are about to come out with here.

Meanwhile, MakeVR, Sixense's VR 3D modelling program, has slipped past its original April Kickstarter date. The Sixense rep on the Oculus development forums has posted this on June 7th:

In other words, both Sixense and Razer are promising new announcements in the near future. Could the two announcements be linked, with MakeVR pushing the updated, more VR-friendly Hydra like Portal 2 was partnered with the original Hydra? They might be unrelated, but apparently Hydra stock is running out everywhere and the timing makes sense.

want to requote this because maybe it will happen in 1 day :D

New Razer Hydra could be great

I guess I'll pick up my Rift tomorrow. I had another piece of mail show up the same time the rift was being delivered so I missed it three times now. The darn mail from Oculus and UPS was put into the promotions folder on gmail so I missed the email saying it's out for delivery.

If you want more fuel for the fire, here's an interesting page on the Sixense website that the Oculus VR forum has seemingly unearthed. A remnant of the pre-Hydra days that was never pulled, or something related to the new announcement that went up early? Guess we won't have to wait long to find out.

Almost a month since I got the email stating my order was about to ship and I haven't heard anything. An update on what's going on would be nice.

Official update from the Oculus forums about the customs situation:

https://developer.oculusvr.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=1917
We shipped roughly 100 kits to US customers from extra stock that had already cleared customs from the last batch. Unfortunately, there was a mix-up and and we sent these dev kits to customers at the end of the order list rather than the beginning. This was completely our mistake and we’re really sorry for the mix-up plus the resulting confusion.
Well, that explains that, at least. I'm just glad there's some sort of official word. Now back to the waiting game.

I normally wouldn't care too much about this wait. But my brother is visiting this week and I only see him twice a year so I was hoping the Oculus would be here in time so he could try it out. Now he has to wait until Christmas :(

Same thing happened to me. Next time I see my brothers is when I fly home in August. Now I'm starting to wonder if I'll even have it by then lol.

There have been so many false hopes along the way this wait has been seriously KILLING ME.

First it was supposed to be April. Then in the beginning of April it became May. Then in early May it became June. Then as June was arriving I FINALLY switched to processing. Spent two weeks thinking that my Rift was going to be arriving ANY DAY, then find out it was caught in customs. Told they hope to have it fixed by the end of the week. Week goes by, nothing. Then they said 1-2 more weeks. Another week goes by.

The icing on the cake is that last Friday some U.S. people started reporting shipping notices, effectively getting everyone's hopes up that maybe they cleared customs finally. But nope, turns out they were just 100 leftovers from the last kickstarter batch. Now we're almost in July, still with absolutely no clue when we'll actually get our Rifts. How many more times am I gonna get kicked in the balls here? I still have not gotten to try the damn thing. This is turning into a cruel joke.

And at this point I don't even want to try someone else's greasy fuckin Rift. I'm waiting for my own beautiful, brand new Rift god dammit and it's going to be a GLORIOUS moment. Although with this luck my unit will be DOA, guaranteed.

mhh http://www.razerzone.com/razer-hyped-up is still online? Thats wierd, would be super easy to answer the winning question now, if the Razer Surround is what they did mean.

I really want to try this but I'm just going to hold out for the consumer version.

I mean, can you imagine this thing after some prototypes and playing next-gen caliber games with it?

Give me TES VI support and I'm pretty sure that's what I would be doing 10 hours a day.

Sandtraps. The part where you are creating bridges over and across the sand.

edit: being able to actually read console commands when you lift off the headset is a bit of a godsend now. I'm so glad they fixed it's weird resolution quirks.

I played that part through a couple of weeks back, didn't get any VR sickness. It's strange that this specific section affected you.

Agree re. the resolution, much easier now at 1080p.

if i pick up a new macbook pro by the end of the year do you think k will be able to play some great games with the rift?

What are you trying first? Avoid sudden movements and particularly strafing. Analog walking eg with a 360 pad can help you walk more slowly

First I did the Coaster demo. Then I moved on to the Tuscany Demo. With the coaster demo I have to sit down or I start to fall like in most of the videos we've seen. Its a tad bit disorientating but no too bad. Now in the Tuscany demo, I'm fine moving in straight lines or picking things up but when I use the right stick on the Hydra to turn it makes me want to puke. Hopefully this is only because I'm not used to VR yet. I still feel a little dizzy and I've have it off for a good while now.
