I just ran Ocean Rift at max settings (and 1080p), my framerate went between 40 to 60fps.. This really supprised me. Do I really have to upgrade?
My conf:
8GB RAM
I5 2500k (3.3 ghz)
2x HD6950
There's something up with that demo. I was getting the same thing.
I have an i7 2600k and HD 5970 though.
Yeah but now I tested Technolust and it ran a steady 60fps the whole time at max.. Very strange.
with the consumer version more than a year away I may just jump in to the future with a crystal cove.

Regarding GST and Australia, this is what I received from Oculus:
Which is fine and all, yet shipping is still $75US :/
I'm not too sure, but I think only way to increase FOV is larger screen. Maybe lens optics can fix it but I feel it will very complex because everyone different retina.
It doesn't.It probably doesn't like crossfire.

Crossfire / SLI don't work well with the Rift because they can have micro-stutter if you dip below the refresh rate of the monitor. Plus, not all games will support SLI/Crossfire. For the consumer version if you're a solid >90 fps, you're fine since you won't see the microstutter, but if you go below that, then it may have issues with the Rift. There's a big thread on this on Oculus' forum if you want to read more about it. For VR it is very much preferred to just have a powerful single GPU.
Wait for the gtx 880.That 780 ti is calling my name. My wallet says otherwise.

It's a silly thing to think about, but I do wonder if the DK2 box will be as awesome as the DK1 box![]()

lol me too. Love my Oculus DK1 case. They did a survey about the case a little while back, I replied that I use mine all the time. Hopefully everyone else said the same.
Wait for the gtx 880.
I see a future with thinner wallets in this thread.
I replied that everyone would lie pretending they use it just to get another one.
Erm just play the game at 1080p or lock it at 60 fps? Or you can tune down some settings like anti aliasing and the like.I'm really worried about this. Like, 1440p is already something but also some people here mentioning 120 fps as well...
That freaks me out. I consider myself an enthusiast, but even I have my limits. I can't drop 500 or 600 dollars on a video card every 6 months.
Those are insane specs.
Do they charge the card right away or when it ships?

A 750M is really quite slow, but on the other hand HL2 is really old. I think it would be fine, but don't expect to run any modern stuff at decent settings.Have latest Macbook Pro Retina with 16GB RAM, would that run Half Life 2 fine on Oculus? (Think it has some 750M graphics card).

It's harder than you might think as then they'd have to worry about sync between the two cards still but then still have to also merge the two frames for output. You would figure AMD and nVidia would make it like Crossfire/SLI. One GPU per "eye"
Oh wow.
$4371 has traded back and forth on my account. Oculus... get your shit together!
edit: Looking at it, that's what went out. Most of it has returned though but with seemingly $50-$150 deducted from each transaction. Looks like I have a few more orders incoming and a cleanup job to do.

The difference isn't really all that big. You already had to manipulate the camera direction and its position (the latter for the L/R eye offset). It will have to be calibrated somehow for each game to get the units/speed roughly right, but that's true for all third party modification.Actually I wonder how third-party wrappers like Vorpx are going to do now, because modding a game for VR requires more than just distorting the display since the DK2 has 6dof.
CV1 this year? Not gonna happen.
Except, the consumer version isn't more than a year away. In one of the interviews they said the final consumer specs were in the final process of being locked down, and they would be quite a bit better than DK2. And when they announced DK2 they said the consumer version was probably going to be just a few months after DK2.
I really want to see what people make once they mix OR with Kinect. That combination of tech sounds like it could make for some interesting things down the line.
Kinect could actually replace a bodysuit for registering your motion.
It's too high-latency for most applications, afaik
Damn! That's the earliest I've seen. I wonder where we are in the line. I'm assuming fairly early because of all the forums/threads I've visited, almost none have been before 8:30 AM PDT.

Ordered 2, got 2 order numbers.
First one at 08:18 AM PDT
Second one at 08:22 AM PDT
Had three ordered because I was unsure if they went through. Thank Jeebus these went through, have order numbers and been charged successfully.
Anybody before 08:18?
I really want to be in the first shipment.
I got mine at March 19, 2014 at 08:16 AM.
8:00am is when the announcement was made and pre-orders opened simultaneously. There were probably a few hundred industry people and press people that knew they were going on sale right then, but probably no more than 1000 in those first 10 minutes. I'm hopin I'm definitely within the first 1500 or so.
