Sounds like VireIO should be ready to be updated for DK2 as soon as they get their hands on one. That'll be good for people craving DK2 content.

I have been completely unimpressed by what the wrappers have been able to do. Anyone who hasn't already got the DK1 and doesn't know what to expect should strongly caveat their expectations for VireIO or TriDef or that other one I'm forgetting. Yes, you can use them to get an immersive 3D experience with head tracking.

But it's not VR unless things feel 1:1 in scale and in head tracking, and they don't using wrappers. You get greater immersion, yes, but you don't get any sense of being 'there'.

C'mon man you know you can't divulge information until you know the situation. If they have come out 2 weeks ago and said "Hey some shit's fucked up, we won't be able to reach our target, we don't know how many will be shipping in July, sorry" and just peaced it would have been absolute chaos.
If they truly found out yesterday, then fine. Otherwise, you say something when you know the situation. Do you really think it was only the last couple of days that Oculus found out? Maybe, but that seems unlikely (admittedly my opinion).

Also, I somewhat disagree on the absolute chaos thing -- people are unhappy now anyway, and I would have preferred hearing something 2 weeks ago, even if it's just "We won't be able to reach our target, something came up". If for some legal reason they couldn't say why, ok, at least I'm informed, I work in engineering, I understand manufacturing issues happen, etc.

Depends on the game. Dear Esther is useless to me without an injection driver.

Ctrl-F - 35 worked for me.

Anyway, I rest my case. No point pissing in the wind I guess.
Ah, so the poster didn't use the word promise. I only see one person saying it as well, not "people" or "the internet", but I can understand your frustation somewhat if Oculus never said 35k initially. :P

You mean 5k or about 16% of what they originally stated.
Wrong. Quit twisting their words in order to stoke your over-entitled sense of outrage.

They said, a little while back, that they hoped to ship 20k-30k during the month of July. Clearly, only a fraction of that number ever had a chance in hell of reaching someone's doorstep. 60%, perhaps?

Now they are saying that they hope that 10k will ship in July, with (again?) about half of those being delivered this month. I fully expect that number to be adjusted further over the course of the month, although I have no idea whether it'll go up or down.

In any event, Oculus is currently expecting to ship between 33% and 50% of their previous estimate. Disappointing, but entirely par for the course. These projections are never carved in stone.

I think it was in the last couple weeks and they didn't want to communicate with us until they knew what they were going to be able to ship. And I still think people would have been much more unhappy without any kind of solid numbers and logistics of what the actual shipping situation is going forward. People would start questioning whether any would ship in July at all. It's unfortunate they aren't meeting their target. But this stuff comes with the territory.

Watch Oculus just go into a total communication black out for two months like last time. Sigh.

It was incredibly disheartening seeing people that ordered the DK1 months after me get the unit just because I live in a european country that's not in the EU (Norway), especially when they refused to acknowledge anything in email conversations or didn't respond to my questions.

Doubly so when I pay a premium in shipping (85!!!!!! dollars) for no apparent reason!
I could send a package the size of the DK1 case from China to my doorstep in three-four days with any courier at that price - why did it take over THREE months from the shipping started till I got my unit the last time?!

Man, you guys have never worked in production have you? It is not easy to start production on a new product, especially one as complex as the Rift. Getting it right is a long and detailed process, so to me them shipping 5000 this month is quite an achievement.

They have 2 billion dollars. Give me a break. If they can't ship more, so be it, but stop making excuses for them.

I don't really think that 2 billion was a factor in the DK2's manufacturing process. Pretty sure they had already set that up prior to the acquisition. And since when does throwing money at a factory you don't own/run yourself make things go more smoothly and error free? Also, this is a new product, new production run, that was probably started before the merger. It's not like companies that do have lots of resources and use the same factories for their products don't ever run into problems either. Case in point, Apple.

I ordered within the first hour, so I have no idea if I'm making into the first batch or not. At the very least, I hope the tracking info reaches me before my DK2 does, that way I can be on the look out for it once it's in transit.

I ordered at 8:30 PST on the dot on March 19th. I think you and I will be in the first batch.

I didn't realize I ordered as early as I did...9:04 PST. I missed the first hour, Oculus will punish me by waiting until December to ship. :'(

Highly doubt it. Anyone I think before 9 AM is golden for July and even the first batch. The ones that are a bit more in the grey area are the ones who ordered at 10, 11, and 12.

I myself got in at 10:03 AM PDT.

I'm expecting the worst and hoping for the best. All you can do really.

It's nuts, I've had DK1 for about a year now. I've gone to valve and played their super high end hardware. I've played tons of VR games already. You'd think I'd become jaded or the giddiness would wear off, but I'm a bundle of nerves. I can't wait for this to come, knowing mine is already in the mail is driving me nuts. I am suddenly a kid again, and it's days before christmas and all I can do is think about my present.

The last time I felt like this was when my DK1 was in the mail. Before that? Uh... leading up to the dreamcast launch date of 9/9/99? I didn't get anywhere near excited like this for any of the new consoles. VR has me hook line and sinker.

The most exciting tech anywhere today.

I ordered around 4-5 pacific on day one. If there are only a few thousand going out in July, I doubt mine will be one of them.

It sucks, but it is far less of a wait than we had for DK1.

Im right there with ya, 10:00 AM PDT for me.

Hopefully less than 5000 people ordered in that first 90 minutes and we will get our rifts in July/early August

I think the only reason I have doubts is because Oculus is being very quiet about how they're distributing the first batch. It's hard to tell how they're splitting up units between different regions. In any case, I do have confidence that I'll have mine within a month from now, so it's not really a big deal to me. It would just be nice to know where I fall in line.

not to poop on anybody's flower garden, but remember that the tracking list is only at 1600 people, and somewhere in the range of the 40,000 mark ordered a rift. So the list is pretty inaccurate. Spread it around and get people to fill it out to increase accuracy.

We really shouldn't be looking at the 40k number. More the 12500 number they released that got sold within 36 hours.

Meh this is all just gonna be fun for me overall. My 780 Ti Classy is just waiting to rip shit apart! Lol Excited for 75 fps 1080p goodness from Elite Dangerous!

Just realised as well, the Pound has gotten stronger against the Dollar, so the Rift is going to cost me a little bit less than I originally thought. £10 less than it would have when I ordered it, ah well every little bit counts :)

Feeling confident my order should be in the first batch (little over 150 of the 1700 or so up there).

Not going to be torn up if it isn't though.

That 12,500 isn't a number to be held to either, it's probably lower than that. Remember the preorders were before the whole Facebook debacle, which had thousands of people making internet posts about how they preordered day one but are cancelling because of it.

So that number is probably down to 12,497 or 12,498 by now.

I expect a few people to have cancelled their orders, but not enough to really affect the order. If only Paypal wasn't so screwy that day.. Lol

Someone graphed the estimated sales per hour over in the oculus sub-reddit. Yes, the data is biased/self selected, but it is still interesting, and shows the huge wave in ordering during the first two hours.

So my University is looking to order around four DK2's for a project.

Has there been any indication as to how far out the next batches will be? As in if we order them this week or next, will they be delayed until September or later.

Probably no information out there, but I figured I'd ask anyways.

September if you're absolutely, astronomically lucky. Right now, they are only planning on an abysmal July shipment of 10k, and they have over 40k preorders. They're promising to ramp up quickly, but if they continue to only pump out 10k a month, it could be as late as November.

So what was the point of the expected ship dates before ordering? The only reason I ordered was because expected ship date was August, not November, December.

Sadly, they dropped the ball (again). They originally expected to ship 20-30k in July, but we found out yesterday that they're only going to do 10k. They're way, way behind schedule.

I just noticed that September line on the Order Page.....here's my question did DK1 ever get to a point where if you ordered it they would prepare your order right then and there? Or was there always a month or two of waiting before you got it?

So-if I understand correctly, there should be about 308 orders ahead of me. Obviously the list is not complete but that gives me a pretty solid indicator of where I stand.

Also, I just realized I never received my Oculus VR T shirt when I got my dev kit one......

Only 5k are gonna be shipped by the end of July, not 10k. 10k is how much they plan on manufacturing in July.
