Oculus Rift DK2 Thread

Two things I see them having to fix for ease of use is:

-Gotta make it easy for glass-users to have a good experience with the Rift. The lenses work well right now, but switching the lenses back and forth for near and far sighted users might get a bit annoying.

-Adjusting IPD on the fly. Considering that getting the right IPD is vital in preventing nausea, there should be a quick way to adjust this in software or the system automatically doing it if CV1 is gonna have eye-tracking.

made a gif that describes me 100% !

It is kind of odd that you can't add more projects or even really do anything with them..

Also, I'm not sure which of you guys here actually active in the Oculus forums, but there's basically a narrative that most of the Oculus employees are more active on the Oculus subreddit than the official forums. lol
Can you rename your project? Now that I'm actually making something it'd be nice to see that project name.

but there's basically a narrative that most of the Oculus employees are more active on the Oculus subreddit than the official forums. lol

It's absolutely true. I don't even go to the official dev forums very much anymore, and never post, because the subreddit is infinitely more active.

It's like having sex the first time. It was awesome, but the 2nd and 3rd time was much better. The experience still felt new.

As a shortsighted person (-1.5 on both eyes), should I instantly try the C cups first?

With DK2 there are only A and B lenses, so I'd go right for B.

For those who want to get a free taste of what Elite and other cockpit experiences are going to be like, I highly recommend that "Runway Approach Lighting Demo."

There isn't much to it, and the positional tracking like to start you with your head and shoulders outside the damn plane, but once you get into the right position it's REALLY cool to be in the prop plane cockpit and be able to lean in and read all the dials and stuff while coming in for the landing. Def the coolest thing I've been able to do so far. In a glitchy way it's also pretty fucking cool to stick your head outside the cockpit it's like you're riding on the wing.

I'm waiting to get an 880 this fall before I take the plunge on Elite, but this demo is making it harder lol.

Also to note I haven't gone through with uninstalling Runtime yet to run a couple of the demos like Technolust and Couch Knights, I fully expect Technolust to be cooler than this when I get around to doing the workaround.

Hmm might be a glitch and yours already shipped. There's a fair few who have received their DK2s and it still says on their order page that its processing.

I thought this might be the case with my DK2 considering I ordered at 9:13am on the first day and its been processing for over 3 days now. However I just got this response from Oculus:

"Thanks for reaching out.

I've checked on your order and we're still processing the shipment that it will be part of.

Watch your email for updates."

So sadly it still hasn't been shipped, I live in England so I'm not even expecting it any time this coming week :(

I'm seriously hoping Kunos updates Assetto Corsa for the DK2. All I need is the BMW M3 E30 and Mugello and I'll be in heaven just doing hot laps.

Really, really hoping to see that my Rift has shipped tomorrow. This the first time in a long time that I've looked forward to a Monday. C'moooooooooon, Monday!

Didn't you guys earlier than me? Since I was at 10 AM. Weird that you guys have been on processing for so long. Then again, it was the weekend.
Yeah I placed my order at 09:12 AM. But maybe it's just a delay in the tracking system and it's already shipped.

I'm hoping that this is the case with mine as well and that by some miracle it shows up tomorrow or I at least get a tracking number.

I really hope we get some messages today from EU people that got their DK2, despite the order still being on processing....that would give me hope....

They'll almost definitely update it, but they're also in the process of doing some other important updates gearing up for a 1.0 release, so don't expect it in the next week or two or anything.

Is it possible to get DK2 demos running at higher resolutions to downsample and still keep the framerate @75fps?

This sounds ominous...I'm in Montreal so always expected I might be hit with customs charges:

07/28/2014 2:21 A.M. Your package is at the clearing agency awaiting final release. / Receiver's customs broker has been assigned. The shipment is now released to move in transit.

The overall status is that it's on a vehicle for delivery today though, so either I'm incorrect or they're going to demand a bunch of money on receipt of the item. Oh well, at this point the excitement should cancel out any anger over extra fees (so long as it's <= $150).

that sounds to me like it's cleared customs. I don't think you have much to worry about.

Do the different lenses even work for shortsighted people ?

I have -2.5 left and -3.25 right. Wouldn't I still see everything blurry ?
They can't have lenses that work for everyone right ?

Can you buy glasses that work for everyone? Lol, no.

Btw, still processing (09:12 AM, Switzerland). :(

When did you order?

Day one. I even had a mix-up with three units being charged deposits on my credit card due to the initial site ordering issues, but Oculus' support team resolved that really smoothly... I expected it to sacrifice my place in the ordering queue, but it clearly didn't!

What time did you order if you don't mind me asking? Just I'm also in the UK and haven't even had mine shipped yet so I'm just trying to get an idea if this is normal or not based on when I ordered.

Dug deep in my inbox:

"This email confirms that we've received your pre-order on March 19, 2014 at 08:42 AM PDT."

Got mine today, UK :)
I'm seeing posts on the Project CARS forum about people in the UK getting delivery(ies) even while their status is still "processing".

For anyone who has the DK2, it has a built-in latency tester now, right? Does any demo use that, like the Tuscany one if you press a special key to bring up an overlay? How does the latency compare from clone desktop mode to direct Rift mode?

Mine came 9:30 today, UK (County Durham). It has said processing since last week (and still does in fact) so it was a nice surprise.

Unfortunately, I am away working for a couple of days so won't get the chance to have a look at it until later in the week. My wife sent me a picture of the box when I was getting on the train :(

I'm in Gateshead, would love to think mine might just arrive without notice but Oculus say its still waiting to be sent out. What time did you order yours?

I ordered it 9:04 (their time), I expected my processing status would change tonight and it would be delivered tomorrow TBH. It shows they are in the area though (I can't see there being to many UPS depots in the North East area mate).

I guess that's good news, I still hope mine will change from processing to shipped and mostly give me a tracking number, so I could try to have someone at home to receive it.
