Oculus Rift DK2 Thread

The tearing I reported about is apparently also caused by the latest Nvidia drivers from what I've read on reddit. I also upgraded to a single 970 and had to re-setup my Rift but it works as it used to (except for the annoying tearing). I hope they get new drivers out soon...

Vuze how have you set up your nvidia settings? Have you cloned/extended your display or do you switch primary?

Re: Your problem, try altering the nvidia settings in the "Manage 3d settings" tab , "Power manage mode" - change from adaptive to Maximum performance (why this isn't the default is beyond me..)

It appears some games incorrectly throttle the GPU

I was in the first batch. I have since sold my Dk2. It was much improved over the DK1 and i cant wait for the final version.

The biggest issue i found was actually not the headset but controls. When you put on that headset it screams for VR hands.

Hoping someone nails the VR gloves for the final release.

I have it extended as I had before. But it also works as primary extended, since I tried to fix the tearing with this.

Yeah, I've changed that already, no dice. It's not too bad, but it's a pity Dolphin VR has it for me since asynchronous warp is finally working with the Nvidia card and it's so awesome with smooth headtracking.

They need a DK3 if the 360 tracking is a preamble to really supporting standing experiences. No one thought they would because of legal reasons, but Sony doesn't mind, so it must be okay with the right user agreements and legal notices.

"The Oculus Rift is a seated experience"

They won't change that. It will probably take Sony one accident to realize this is probably not what they should advertise. People will use it standing up regardless (and I can't blame them for this; I really wish I had more free space and a better spot for the camera to try this).

Shame on all of you for never mentioning visir!
It's a music visualizer. Fucking trippy. I love it.

Hey, I did! :P But yeah, one of my favourite applications thus far, little to no nausea for me, while enjoying your own personal Pink Floyd-like laser show.

It's beautiful. Shame my computer can't keep up with some of the show, namely jungle and the star wars warp thingy.
No nausea at all even with dropped frames.

Man, so after some time playing Elite Dangerous, I don't really get nausea anymore. It was slight, but a lot better now.

I haven't used the the DK2 for any space station action because I've read you get some pretty bad jutter with people using 780Ti's and I have an R9 290 OC.

BUT, the most awesome thing was finally getting my "command chair" set up!

(terrible picture quality)

I still wonder if the consumer edition will have a embedded camera on the front, to see "outside" without having to quit the device each time.

Considering it is a feature of Gear VR, I think it's pretty likely. However, it's very unlikely that it would be used to integrate some kind of AR with VR, instead it would be used as a way to quickly glance at something in the room, toggling between the camera view and VR. As such, it wouldn't prevent people from smashing into things while they are entirely engrossed in VR.

Just tried Metroid Prime 2 in Dolphin VR. It's pretty crazy. In a good way. A lot of the hud actually works. The control scheme is odd and the scale is a bit off, but goddamn is it immersive.

Only thing making it unplayable is the culling really.

If they're gonna do an external camera, why not also design it with AR in mind? Seems like it'd be a wasted opportunity.

Oh I agree, I meant that you wouldn't have VR games suddenly integrating AR - if CV1 has a camera, it'll be of no use in terms of seeing where you are during the primary use case, which is VR-only. I'd expect a bunch of AR-only apps to appear too, but not combined.

Guys!!! Elite! Elite! Elite! Elite!! Please buy it and support these amazing developers! Flat-out the best experience on the Rift so far! Beta 2.0 is amazing and they've made sooo many improvements!

Does it work in direct mode or is it still using extended? (Either way I hope I can play this afternoon!)

You could buy it for me, does that sound like a deal? :p

I'd love to try it, but I'm really not into spaceship simulators and 75$? Nahhh.

So I recently upgraded to a 970 from my 7870 and now I experience right-eye tearing in SteamVR and Dolphin VR. Any idea how to fix it guys? Rift as primary and prefered display, force vsync on, disable aero didn't help - and for some reason I cannot turn aero back on when my Rift is connected in extended mode.

Just saw this after installing my 970. At first I thought it was some hardware problem, good to know it's software.

I held off on ordering this game so long but I don't think I can resist anymore, how long is Beta 2?

Not really sure. You guys really can't go wrong with Elite. The experience in the Rift really cannot be explained.

They've made so many improvements from Beta 1. It's crazy how close you can get to the planets now. The sense of scale has been improved and it was already superb in Beta 1.

Anyone else hoping Oculus includes a mini display port for Gear VR somehow? Since I might be getting a Note 4 at some point, I wouldn't mind using that with Gear VR.

And I think I heard something about Carmack looking into adding positional tracking via the camera and IMUs. If he can manage to get it working well enough, it could be a nice alternative to the DK2 or whatever. Although, I'm sure the tracking wouldn't be as good.

Are you saying you'd want to use a Note 4+Gear VR headset in place of either a DK2 or CV1 by being able to plug it into a PC?

Anybody try Pinball Arcade?

Unless I'm missing something the game only runs at 60fps, so you get judder, it uses extended mode, and there's no positional reset. Impressive regardless, though. Hopefully it'll see more love.

Yeah, I'd use it in place of the DK2 or CV1 if they aren't that different from the Gear VR. Which I have a feeling they wouldn't be.
You are mistaken. The Note 4 panel isn't capable of matching the DK2's low persistence mode let alone Crescent Bay's. The only benefit Gear VR has over DK2 is resolution, everything else is worse, and being able to plug it into a PC isn't going to help. CV1 is going to be at least as good as Crescent Bay, so it'll be leagues ahead of GearVR.

Unless they've made some notable downgrades, then it could absolutely keep pace with DK2... it's using the Note 3 panel.

That said, I don't think anyone realistically expects it to use a phone screen.. the Note 3 screen in the DK2 is just a placeholder for what's coming in CV1, perhaps what we got a peek at in Crescent Bay. The general consensus is that Samsung is providing a custom screen specifically for the Rift, not just something borrowed from existing hardware. That was apparently part of the deal in Oculus's assistance in creating GearVR.

Carmack's talk suggested that it wasn't capable of doing 75Hz. Perhaps they could make it happen if they ripped it out of the Note 4, but we're talking about literally using an untouched Note 4 here, not a new product made with a Note 4 panel.
