Of all the architecture I’ve ever seen, old American West is by far the worst

I think those buildings were just made to be built as fast as possible and take the least amount of resources they could get. Don't think they were trying to go for a new, classy architecture style. I think they were called "Boom towns" too, so that can kind of give you a hint.

I can't tell if you're being serious or not..........it's called false front architecture and it looks that way for a reason. Renaissance architecture in comparison? While you're at it why not debate Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel vs the stain I just put on my back deck?

Um, they were literally building a town from the ground up with whatever nearby resources they could get their hands on, often as fast as possible to accomodate whatever boom was occurring in the vicinity.

There isn't a whole lot of charm in survival. That comes later.

Why does the reason need to matter when rating the architecture you think looks best? That doesn’t matter. The reason it looks the way it does, doesn’t alter where I rank the look of it.

I completely understand why it looks the way it does. But the point it… it looks the way it does. Shit.

That said though, I still think it’s uglier than tribal huts if you want a fairer comparison.

It was made my uneducated men and women who possibly couldn't even read using what materials were available to them in their immediate vicinity.

Were you expecting the Taj Mahal? lol

I had no expectations. I see architecture and I go “that looks cool” or “that looks ugly”

And I think this style is the ugliest. Nothing more, nothing less. I haven’t gotten a disagreement yet btw. Just an explanation for why it’s shit, which is well enough. 😁

Go sleep in a tent (if lucky) for a few months while living hard out in the wilderness.

Dat brothel was a PALACE, I tells yah!

It was supposed to be quick and usable, not beautiful. Let me throw you in a wasteland with sand and cactus and see what you can build.

It’s cause the comparisons are odd.

I was checking out the artwork from my child’s daycare. Man these kids paintings are just nowhere near the quality of a classic Monet.

I was in a poor Mexican town and saw a set of homes made out of scraps. Just wasn’t as beautiful and sound as the Great Pyramids of Giza which were made a couple thousand years ago. I mean, these were such poor architecture. Couldn’t even compete with what these early humans were doing in the BC era.

You can tell the quality of the culture and people by how they take care of their buildings and gardens.

True. You know who else's architecture sucks? Those fucking morons in Brazil building the favelas. I mean look at this shit:

I mean what were those morons thinking? Look at this trash and compare it to like Renaissance architecture which was from hundreds of years prior that had more charm and beauty in one square inch than an entire one of these towns.

I think an old west town has it's charms, they were essentially colonies, meant to be built quick and cheap since these towns were just getting started.

The benefit of that life was how free you were, get drunk, get laid, get wild, it reminds me of what the internet was like in the 2000s, freedom can be fun and there's a reason these brief periods of more freedom than usual are lionized like they are.

Personally though I'd rather live in a 1900s era "Mainstreet USA" style town if I had to live in a similar time and place, which were essentially the successor to these type of towns, things gotta start somewhere and you have to start simpler before you can get more complex.

Because it’s Captain Obvious material. It’s the fashion equivalent to comparing a used tshirt and jeans from Goodwill to a tailor made suit and saying the used clothing doesn’t look as good aesthetically. Well, no shit. The premise of the thread is stupid, it’s why you’re being universally roasted.

Oh it was definitely captain obvious, not gonna disagree on that. If it’s roast worthy then roast away.

Keep in mind I put about 2 minutes of thought into this thread before making it. 😎

I’m still waiting for examples. I’ve been to the US 3 times as a kid, but I can’t differentiate the styles used in NY, Florida and California.

They all seem the same to me in both smaller towns and cities. Skyscrapers and suburbs with walls made out of paper so you can punch through them.

Sounds like you need to take a trip to modern rural India if you want to see the worst architecture known to man. Combine quick + cheap + crowded + ugly + shitty (literally) + any other words one can use to describe the worst of humanity, and you get the picture.
