Lots of teams "barely" make the playoffs. It's the last seed, duh. Again, how're the low seeds in the East any worse than the low seeds in the West? Look at the Sonics. Supposedly a great Western team coming into the playoffs, but right now, I'd pick the Pacers, Pistons and Heat over the Sonics. I'd pick those three over the Mavs too. Yet the East gets pegged as being weak all the time. Most of the teams that didn't make it were garbage, but as far as the playoffs are concerned, I don't think it's fair to call the East weak when there are actually three teams capable of making a strong Finals run, as opposed to the obvious two from the West. The Spurs and the Suns are the teams that will emerge from the West, and neither is a lock to beat any of the three East teams still in contention. The doubters will be proven wrong...AGAIN. PEACE.

Like I said, regular season means nothing. The Pacers in playoff form are a much better team right now than during the regular season. The same goes for Detroit. Playoff form for these East Coast teams is a significant step up from the regular season. Look at this Spurs game right now. Do you think it's unreasonable to see Detroit winning a 7-game series against them? Don't the Heat and Pacers stack up well against any team in the West right now?

Say what you will, but the Pacers are giving the Pistons a run for their money, and that's without Artest and with O'Neal playing poorly. And the Pacers gave Miami fits during the regular season. I think the East is underestimated too much. It's the weaker of the two conferences, but right now, it's a totally level playing field. You can't claim the West has anything over the East. It's not like with the Lakers' run when they were almost guaranteed to embarass the East Coast winners. But even then, the Lakers were stomping a mudhole in the rest of the West, so it's not like there was a great deal of balance there. But whatever. The Heat are winning it all this year, and some of you will be scratching your heads again wondering how the creampuff East put another one over on the overrated West. PEACE.

To be fair, if the Heat win it all after facing the Pacers minus Artest in the ECF a big part of it will have to do with their creampuff schedule (Wiz are the greatest gift ever, and not having to face Detroit would be the second greatest gift ever), I really think if the Suns miraculously beat the Spurs, they will have almost nothing left in the tank. However, if Heat beat the Pistons and win the championship they will get huge props from me at least, they'll still get props if they win no matter what, but imo Nets-Wiz-Artestless Pacers is one of the easiest paths to the Finals ever and that will affect my outlook the team somewhat. Of course you can't blame a team for beating up on the shitty competition that's given to them, but it'd be way nicer to see how good they really are by them having at least a few rounds of real competition.

Nobody said Indiana, Detroit, and especially Miami are weak teams. What we are saying is that the EC only goes three teams deep. The 8th or 9th seed in the West would probably beat the East's 4th best team in any playoff series (especially since Curry and Deng are injured). That's a major discrepancy.

Of course the regular season means nothing now, but you realize that if EC seeds 3 through 8 were in the West, they would not even make the playoffs? :lol

Indiana is a good team, but they match up very well against Detroit. They did last year, and they do again this year. They could not beat the Spurs, Suns, Mavs, Rockets, Kings, Sonics, Nuggets, and maybe even the Grizz in a 7-game series. And that's the third best team in the East. :lol

Again, Detroit and Miami are legitimate contenders (no one is doubting that), but #3 through #8 are weak, and would not even have made the playoffs if they were in the West. That itself speaks volumes.

Thank God I missed the 2nd half because I had to go out. With what the Spurs displayed in the 1st half was enough to realize they didn't deserve this game. Now let's see how they respond because I know they're much better than this.

Props to Seattle for showing heart and just wanting it more.

lol @ spurs embarrassing effort. i watched the game with six spurs fans friends of mine, and they were absolutely disgusted. it was hilarious watching allen, ridnour, daniels, and wilkins just slice up the spurs defense.

oh, and fmt, you there? this thread could use some more of your basketball wisdom after the gem, "don't be delusional, this series isn't getting to a 6th game." stick to forecasting the 49ers draft prospects.

yeah, now you respond to me 3 days later, that's nice. sonics are fortunate to be tied in the series and you know it, but i digress. how about instead of talking a bunch of shit why don't you bet me like a man? i'm not even talking about the niners bet (you already pussied out on that, as suspected), i'm talking about YOUR "expertise", spurs and sonics. i bet you $20 paypal the spurs win the series. put up or shut up.

p.s. i'd prefer you respond with the cop-out "pfft SHU UP LOZER!" response

The Spurs played absolutely PATHETIC. If Pop doesn't stop line-up shuffling and doesn't adjust to the physical play, we're going to lose. There is NO reason to have this much talent and get BLOWN OUT by a Sonics team with two of their key guys injured. I'd be willing to say hello to Phil Jackson if we get knocked out this round.

It was WEAK for Popovich to take out Tim Duncan with 7 minutes left. He gave up with over half the fourth left because 'he felt we didn't deserve to win.' THat comment pissed me off.

Yeah... but not all the teams have the same tools... so just because one team shows a weakness in a team's scheme doesn't mean that another can attack because they don't have the right player to do so...

Well, they at least have an idea of what to do. Before the playoffs, "analysts" were talking about slowing down games with Suns or running with them. Dallas is showing that you have to attack Nash on both ends and make him a scorer cos he gets like 80% of their assists each game...Stuff like that...

It's like the other Suns players can't do anything without Nash spoon-feeding them :lol

It was just a cold game for everyone but Nash, and even Nash had a bunch of turnovers. I mean how many times did the ball just bounce of Amare's hands, or Q or someone just shoot an awful wide open 3? It's definitely a game where Joe Johnson would have been a big help b/c an even mildly hot Johnson would probably have translated into a Suns win, but I don't expect the whole gang to be cold again and Amare usually comes back really strong after outings like this. I figured the Mavs were gonna take one in Dallas, anyway; they're a better team than a lot of people give them credit for.

you need to bet in order to root on your team and talk shit about others? why, if that were so, mr world renowed shit talker, everyone would need to put their money where there mouth is. yeah, that's smart.

just quit discussing basketball and stay in the 49ers draft thread. thanks. and i guess "forntunate" is defined in your world as blowout game 4 victory.

The mavs did what they did in game 7 against the Rockets.

They made Nash shoot, if Nash is doing all the shooting means that he can't get the rest of the team going. It's better for Nash to score 48 points than for Amare to get 40, Richerson to get 20, Jackson to get 20, Marion and to get 20. Without Nash, The Suns are a medicore team without Nash's MVP passing.

Once again I have some thanks to give out today:

1. I'd like to thank Detroit for winning... that's right you two... keep going back and forth give Shaq all the time off he needs.
2. I'd like to thank the Spurs forgetting spanked... it wasn't enough that Ray Allen got his including a sweet little dunk in the 3rd quarter, but you guys were getting schooled by Luke Ridnour, I mean SCHOOLED... that was some funny shit.

The Suns were cold last night, much like the Mavs were in the Game 3 (1-18 from 3pt-land). But the Mavs did a much better job on Amare and the pick 'n roll. Nash was friggin' nuts. I still love him even though he's wearing orange this year. Dirk had his best game of the series and dampier showed up again. What a fun series.

Shit, if Shaq is out the first 2 games, I expect a Pistons sweep, or Pistons in 5. I just hope Rip is better, he's been shooting like shit because of the same kind of injury Shaq has.

Pistons win tonight, Spurs lose tonight and win Saturday.

The Spurs really suck on the road, they need to do something about that. Of the top 6-7 teams in the league, they have the worst road record, it's really sad.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

Shaq Drops Out of Playoffs to Focus on Insulting Lakers

MIAMI--Shaquille O’Neal announced plans today to skip the remainder of the postseason in order to focus his attention on insulting the Los Angeles Lakers. Shaq has engaged in a war of words with his former team ever since last year’s trade that sent him to the Miami Heat. Now that he has more time on his hands, Lakers owner Jerry Buss, GM Mitch Kupchak, and Kobe Bryant are bracing themselves for the worst.

Shaq began his smear campaign on Monday, when he told the Miami Herald’s Dan LeBatard that Bryant was “a big pussy.”

“You know what Kobe Bryant is? He’s a big goddamn pussy,” Shaq said. “You can print that, too. Kobe Bryant is a big goddamn pussy. When I was in LA I wanted to choke the life out of him. Luckily, the Diesel is a reasonable man. But now the gloves are off. No more basketball for me. It’s time for me to focus on my true calling--belittling people through the media with meticulously crafted one-liners.”

While his main target remains Kobe Bryant, Shaq also had a few words for owner Jerry Buss.

“Jerry Buss is a senile old man,” he said. “That guy traded away the best big man in history--Shaq daddy, Shaq-fu--for three spare parts. What’s worse, he implied that I was overweight last year. Can you believe that? I was not overweight last year. I wasn’t tall, either. Or black. And the sky wasn’t blue.”

O’Neal did say that he would be following his team closely in their quest for a championship.

“Don’t worry. I will definitely be checking the scores every morning after they play,” he said. “My teammates are very important to me. I want them to do well. It’s just that I have bigger priorities in my life right now. I’ll be back playing again next year, though. Don’t worry. The Diesel will ride again down the…no, that doesn’t sound good. The Diesel will run them over with…um…I don’t know. Let me get back to you on that one.”

Without Shaq, the Miami Heat were able to win their last two games against the Washington Wizards and sweep the series 4-0. However, things should get much tougher in the second round, when they will face either the Detroit Pistons or Indiana Pacers. The team is disappointed that their center will be absent, but players stopped short of criticizing O’Neal.

“It’s going to be tough without Shaq, no question about it,” said Dwyane Wade. “He’s the straw that stirs the drink here. Now we’re really going to have to have guys step up in his absence. I guess it would be easy to criticize him for what he’s doing, but I don’t really think that’s appropriate right now. We need to focus on getting the job done on the court. And don’t forget that we still have Alonzo Mourning. He’s one of the best in the league at dramatically pumping his fists and yelling at the heavens.”

Over in Los Angeles, the Lakers are prepared for a war of words. Bryant refused to get involved, but Buss and Kupchak stepped up to defend themselves.

“Look, we made a very difficult decision to trade Shaq last season,” Kupchak said. “We knew it was going to hurt us but we felt it was the best thing to do in the long run. Whether we were right or wrong is beside the point. We certainly didn’t do it as a slight against the guy. The fact is, he was a fat cow during his last few seasons with us. He was just this giant, fat, brick-throwing mountain lumbering around the court gasping for air. Kobe, on the other hand, is a sleek, well-oiled machine, who just happens to be a sociopath.”

As part of his new smear campaign, Shaq took out a full page ad in the New York Times stating that the Lakers suck and that Kobe Bryant is a “punk” who should be “thrown in front of a bus.” He also made the rounds on the late-night talk show circuit, appearing on Letterman and Leno in the same week. On both nights, he skewered his old team with his trademark wit and candor.
“Mitch Kupchak has no class. He doesn’t even know how to tie his shoes,” Shaq said to David Letterman on Tuesday night. “He traded away the Big Aristotle. And you know, Dave, when you piss off the Big Aristotle, you’re playing with fire. Someday, when he least expects it, I’m going to show up at his office, break the door down, and beat him within an inch of his life. Then I’m going to go after his family. Then, after all of that is finished, I will finally shut my fat mouth for five minutes. Just kidding!”

Hmmm, that Shaq news isn't very good, but it's not that bad either. The Heat bench has stepped its game up against the overrated Pistons before, and I don't doubt they'll be able to do it again. They can let Shaq sit out a few games next round IMO. Zo is back in fine form anyway. A block machine. Wang Xiouxiou is probably geeked b/c now he's got a chance of seeing some playtime if Zo and Doleac get into foul trouble. :lol As long as we got Haslem in there, we'll be fine on the boards. The 2005 NBA Finals Champions Miami Heat ain't neva scared! :D PEACE.

I wonder how he'll deal with going from blowout sweeps to a 5 game asswhoopin.

NM I thought you were being serious for a second there

:D PEACE.

:lol Do you REALLY think the HEat stand a chance if Shaq sits out "a few games"? If he misses just one they could be in trouble. If he misses 2 or more, this shit is going 5 games max.

Q: How's your health?

A: I feel great. Everything is working out really wonderful. The medicine is doing its part. I'm doing my part. Working out every day. Everything is working out great for me. It's been 14 years now.

Q: Are you amazed by that? And what specifically do you do to stay healthy?

A: For me, I never thought anything bad was going to happen to me. I thought I was going to be here. I just had to make sure I did the things I was supposed to do. The No. 1 thing was, I have always kept a positive attitude through all of this. I think that is what has really helped me.

I take a combination of two drugs. I take it twice a day, so that is easy. I work out an hour-and-a-half to two hours a day.

Q: You said that you want to run a team. How close did you come to becoming the Knicks' president?

A: Before Isiah [Thomas] got the job, Garden President Steve Mills wanted to know if I wanted to do it. But he was so short on time because I told him that I have six companies that I own. I told him that Isiah would be a great candidate for him. Steve and I know each other very well. I only had a day or two to think about it. Do I love New York? Of course. If it were a year or two or three later, it would probably had been a great situation for me. It was the right time for Isiah, wrong time for me.

Q: What is the best piece of trash talk you ever said or was said to you?

A: When Michael [Jordan] told Larry [Bird] and I there was a new sheriff in town. He was ready to take the league over. He told us that to our face at the [1992] Olympics. That was really wonderful. Then I was hurt one day and Larry Bird told me, "Sit back and enjoy the show.'' He put on an unbelievable show. At that time, guys who talked trash could back it up. Today, everybody talks trash, but they can't back it up.

Q: Would you do the Magic Hour again?

A: I wouldn't do the Magic Hour again, but I would do TV again. The Magic Hour is not me. Anything I would do, I would have to be me. That is how it would work.

:lol :lol :lol

The Pacers are giving the Pistons fits. The Heat's bench almost beat the Pistons at the end of the season, and it was a full Pistons squad. That's without Shaq. We are not going to lose to Detroit. . . . Accept reality, Detroit is going down lik the punk bitches they are. My only concern is we may not sweep thir monkey asses. BTW, this is partially bait to bring Konex out. We need his special luck to extend this series to 7 games. :) PEACE.
