Official April 2008 NPD thread of massive disappointment if you're not Nintendo

Moms bought a shit ton of PS2's.
Those cougars are now buying Wii's.
I predicted this senario based on price point years ago. I win.:D

This month is a good 25% below expectations for SW sales, even more for HW sales. GTA IV's numbers are great, but not as good as folks expected.

It was not a good month for the industry as a whole.

I wonder for how long the industry will ignore the fact that Nintendo is the driving force of the expansion. I mean: isn't it time to start developing for the Wii without prejudjements?

Bring on it good games, and they will sell. But ignoring the console don't make sense anymore, because now the gap is becoming really large.

Insanity. Beautiful, delicious insanity.

I gotta say, I'm loving this ride. There are CEOs screaming at the top of their lungs right now, and then weeping quietly.

Companies like EA, etc... had basically ZERO planned for Wii when it was first announced. "Revolution? Nintendo's gonna get third, no need to make anything for it." And they signed all the big budget games to the "safe bet" platforms, 360 and PS3.

Over the next year you are going to see a lot of big games heading to the Wii. Stuff like Mad World is just a taste. Companies are going to be leaping onto Wii and Wii Ware. The next-next Dragon Quest (after the DS one) will probably be announced for the Wii. We've already seen that Monster Hunter has been. With sales of Wii Guitar Hero, Activision is going to be focusing pretty heavily on making sure that cow keeps producing milk. EA already jumped on board with a pretty big-budget title in Boom Blox, and we'll definitely keep seeing more from them.

At this point, ignoring Nintendo platforms is just leaving money on the table.

er no, how many did the last one sell?

I think everyone who can afford $400 for a console has one,

Protip: Price is not the reason Wii is thrashing all comers. Besides, if it were all about price Nintendo could drop the $199 bomb tomorrow.

Bish loves my games!
Intetestingly it looks like 360 GTA was much closer to the 2 to 1 figures MS was bragging about then everyone thought.

QFT.

Seriously--if any company ISN'T planning on making a Wii game right now, they're absolutely insane. It boggles the mind that some have been so late in getting on the bandwagon. Again, no business sense whatsoever.

Yet another great day to be a Wii owner.

That's right, third parties. Scurry off of those sinking next-gen ships.
WTF?

When a third party game is release on the 3 platform and more then 75 % buy it on Wii

maybe....

I really hope 360/PS3 pick up more steam during the second half of the year. I would much prefer they lead the way. Either way, as mentioned, I'm gonna go with the guess that the HD consoles will simply live longer than the Wii. Its just a matter of WHEN the Wii loses steam.

Can someone explain these numbers to me? Does this mean that the Wii is finally going to get the good 3rd party games?

I just came from the Konami thread and...
Check the Platinum Games thread - it talks about Mad World and Bayonetta.

Awesome stuffs there.

Wonderful and exciting. Post of the year.
;)

CoD 4 still has legs :). I hope Treyarchs sequel doesn't ever happen. And thats not really a knock against Treyarch. Sure their known as the 'fake' version of the CoD series, but they have talented developers who should be able to work on their own I.Ps and have their own individual success without being under IW's shadow.

Yeah, that's my point either.

You know, maybe I'm just crazy but....I hate that the wii is doing so well.

It's not because of the graphics and it not being HD. It's because I know with it selling THIS well, Sony and MS are going to try and emulate parts of it next generation (be it lower technology, crazy controller, w/e) and I don't like that at all, because I really don't like playing the wii.

Am I the only one that thinks like this?

Has there every been any evidence that the lead console will simply "lose steam" over time? People say this every generation but it never happens

People are still spending as much if not more money on video games as before. It's not because they can't afford the PS3 or 360 but because they are actively choosing to spend their money on different products.

Okay, I'll cave. I really don't know what I'm talking about. All Americans are swimming in cash, are winning on Wall Street (especially those ever-so-wealthy core gamers) and aren't impacted by the recession that seemingly doesn't exist. The dollar's strong, employment is up, it's all good.

Just curious...what are the Guitar Hero 3 numbers for the different systems, LTD?

Well . . . compared to the rest of the economy, this industry is still completely on fire. Who else besides energy companies are experiencing this kind of growth?

Oh I'm sorry, but Rockstar and Infinity Ward can't hear you, they are too busy counting their money.

Abysmal next-gen numbers, and it seems like the general public didn't give a shit about the GTA4 bandwagon. Surprised there was no hardware boost at all...

The Wii...is the wii. It lives in its own universe now.

so is it wrong to hate nintendo and it's stupid crappy console more with each passing month? I mean don't get me wrong I've had a blast with mario galaxy, metroid prime 3, twilight princess and no more heroes but seriously 700,000 + consoles sold in a month with absolutly fucking nothing worth buying on it ?

I'm not a big fan of the Wii catalog either, but the system a this point hasn't had that much effect on the development of non-Nintendo games. Even with the sales, there's still so few big projects that have moved to Wii. So it hasn't really affected the games we play yet.

PS2>>>360>Wii>>>PS3, in general. GH3:Wii LTD is on the first page I think. Maybe 2nd or 3rd.

Every month Nintendo fans in these threads saying, ooh, those third parties can't hold out much longer, every month they are in every other thread wondering why game X won't be on Wii.

Hahahahahahahahaahahah no.

The Wii will lead every month until it dies.

Look at the PS2.

See how it's still selling?

The Wii will live at least that long.

The Wii will lose steam when the heir to the Wii's throne comes and takes it. Hint: The 360 and PS3 ain't it.

True, but its different this time around. Wii is more last gen and has always been cheaper than the other two. By quite a bit. Only time will tell I guess... and at 700k+ during these months... who knows how long this will continue...

Videogames have proven themselves to be an inelastic good and recession proof. There are many complex reasons for this, but it is true neverless

The good news is we've got to be looking at some serious 360 and PS3 price cuts in the coming months.

Right?

It doesn't look like it from the PS3 side anytime soon, but I would think MS would do one by June. They need not ride this price out too much longer, it has been on the market long enough to warrant at least another $50. But, yea we can hope or price cuts, but who knows.
