Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

JSnake has some 'splaining to do, I think.

He did explain.

I'm actually pretty happy. I hadn't downloaded anything in months and then all of a sudden 2 games that I was waiting for popped up in two weeks. Samurai Showdown (I used to play in a pizza place by my house & got a 3do for it later) and Alex Kidd, which I used to own for SMS. Color me impressed...hope they keep it going. Yeah, it stinks that it's not the same amount each week, but as long as there's quality I'm not going to complain.

Call me crazy, but I consider this a good week.

Gyrostarr, Alex Kidd, and Burning Fight are all good games in my book.

The only thing preventing me from instantly DLing Burning Fight is the upcoming SNK compilation for Wii. I know the PS2 version was terrible, but I'll wait and see on the Wii version.

Well, that was a jerk thing for JSnake to do. :/

Consider his credibility down the drain.
He'd already lost credibility with me when he asked for help writing a review for a game he hadn't played.

The list of future releases on the wiki page is also filled with "hopeful" stuff. I have no idea where they got Boogerman and Clay Fighter from. I just skimmed through the ESRB site and picked out what I could find. It is possible I missed one or two.

I'm not sure they'd want to release 3 high profile, highly time-consuming games in the same week.

Didn't they release mach Rider, Kid Icarus, and Kirby's adventure the same day once?

THAT was a good week.

I thought it would be interesting to see how much some of the sales figures reported by Nintendo Channel have increased in the past week

The sample might not be that small relative to the VC-buying population. With only US and very limited JPN figures, the numbers on the Nintendo channel alone account for 11% of Nintendo-released VC+WiiWare figures. If we got Euro numbers and I had the rest of the Japanese numbers, I suspect we could account for 25%+ of overall sales, which would be an EXCELLENT sample.

Maybe "sample" wasn't the best term to use, I just added that statement so that people would know that these numbers aren't indicative of the actual sales, at least in terms of magnitude.

So now that we're done with the crap Neo-Geo beat 'em ups, how about some through and through good games D4/SNK? Of all the more realized consoles on VC, I think Neo-Geo has done the worst job of realizing its potential so far. And there hasn't been a Turbo/TurboCD game since 02/25, geez. Well hopefully SMRPG is at least coming soon.

Seems to be a pretty good week. Nothing I absolutely have to have now, but definitely some stuff I can see myelf picking up at a later date when I'm itching from some new, old school games.

And what's this about Jsnake? I gather he said Super Mario RPG would be out this week?

And Volcynika? Chat?

Super Metroid sold 1685 copies since last week?

Oh, he joins our GAF WFC chat we have on IRC sometimes. Is actually in there right now!

I thought a major criticism of the Nintendo channel numbers is that it didn't count people who buy DD games but don't use the channel; therefore, wouldn't the difference in numbers also include people who already bought the game but hadn't logged into the Nintendo channel since?

I still wonder if we'll get MSX games here... I'd expect HAL, D4 and Konami would all be pushing for it?

I'd love to see that, and it would be quite an achievement for VC.

We'd have to see the week-on-week. Since the channel updated there could be a spike of new users but the only way to tell will be to watch this data over a longer period of time.

Nintendo Channel keeps track of certain numbers associated with Wii/VC games, including total number of times played and total time spent playing, along with average number of times played and average time spent playing per person. It only makes the numbers public for certain games though.

It sold 1685 copies since last week to people who share their information with the Nintendo Channel.

Say, question time. Did our old pal JSnake ever actually SAY that SMRPG was coming out, or did he just heavily imply it over in the other forum by starting a thread with SMRPG images all over it?

I'c love to know what the hell is going on with Turbo releases. It's not as though there aren't games yet to release - hell, there are plenty of Turbo/PCE games that have been released in Japan and Europe but have yet to make it to NA.

Oh, well, back to Mario Kart Wii :lol

He said, confirmed it many times, then admitted to doing it purposefully.

If nothing I want releases for VC on the 30th, I'll have gone through ten consecutive weeks of nothing, which will have dropped my monthly average on buying VC games (not counting those gifted to me) from 2.94 (end of April) to 2.65 (end of June). And my average strictly for 2008, now including those gifted to me, would be 1.5 (nine games over six months), as compared to 4.5 for 2006 (noting that launch month exerts some bias on those numbers) and 3 for the entirety of 2007. Compelling.

Oh, and before anyone starts reading magical implications into this statement, I'm not saying nothing good came out--obviously at least some people like Double Dragon, Pokemon Puzzle League, Metal Slug, Samurai Shodown, and Alex Kidd--but only that there's nothing I've wanted.

In fairness, my WiiWare average is 3.5 so far--but as with my VC number for 2006, it's expected that things would be fairly frontloaded. Since the only remaining unreleased WiiWare games I want are Bomberman, Shantae, World of Goo, and fat maybes slapped on Tetris and (if it even leaves Japan) a certain bubble wrap game, it can only go down from here. This is just one reason that I've consistently pinned hopes on VC and why I bring it up time and again. WiiWare can't bail it out indefinitely, since it's harder to make new games than release old ones.

Other fun numbers for randomness. Over 53 games that were not gifts, my average paid price per game is $6.81. People who emphasize VC games cost too much while only focusing on those that cost $8-10 are consequently moot to me. Average VC block usage per game is 52.24, but 32.54 if I factor out my three N64 games and my three TGCD games. (41.94 even if I only factor out the TGCD games and leave F-Zero X, Star Fox 64, and Sin and Punishment--with all but the latter taking up 156 blocks or less.) This signals the need for a greater number of slots on the menu, since 42 slots (maximum number if nothing other than the required channels have been downloaded) averaging 32.54 blocks each only occupies 1366.68 blocks.

However, my average WiiWare block usage is 206.86, and obviously that signals the need for a storage solution. Since I've downloaded seven WiiWare games, that's already 1448 blocks--in other words, about the same as 44.5 (44.499 if you'd like to be precise) of my non-N64, non-TGCD VC games. Staggering.

They should do an RPG month, with one or two per week so that people have just enough time to beat them. Start with Super Mario RPG to catch interest. Week after that comes Earthbound to maintain hype. Week after that, Ys Book I & II and Dragon Slayer as a TGCD showcase. Then end with Shining Force II, since if it's anything like its predecessor it'll take about as long as those other four games combined (meaning they wouldn't want to release it at an earlier point since RPG fans might be too occupied with it to buy whatever came after it).

But I'm not particularly expecting any of these things, considering that last time NOA ran a series of themed weeks, they ended up inexplicably starting with the most-wanted game (River City Ransom), then proceeding to a slightly less-wanted game (Double Dragon), then proceeding to something most people haven't even heard of (Renegade). Strange move, that...
