Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

Hmm... I had forgotten about the ESRB. However, Earthbound already has an ESRB rating. Have previously rated games been rerated by the ESRB? I had the impression that WaveRace and the various N64 titles weren't showing up with new ratings on the ESRB web site.

Earthbound had the old "K-A" rating. Wouldn't that necessitate a rerating?

You're right, it does. I didn't see it at first because it's listed under "Earth Bound." I wonder whether the manual is not done yet because they're trying to imitate the guide that came with the game. It would be neat to see those clay models and newspaper clippings.

Personally, I think this is just evidence that the fansite guys really have no "secret information". As I said before, saying that "all that needs to be done is the digital manual" really doesn't say very much about the likeliness of any game showing up on the Virtual Console, as that's all that really has to be done for nearly ANY game that would show up on the VC.

Is Sin and Punishment worth the $12? I'm thinking of picking it up Friday.

Yes, N64 games look awesome.

Yes, Sin and Punishment is worth $12 on VC (much more if you can get a complete, boxed copy).

1080 snowboarding is awesome.

I killed that game back in the day.. the halfpipe i'd rack up insane scores.

360-540-360-540-360-540- 1080!! rince repeat on each jump~ i had scores well over 100,000 in the half pipe.

Bottom of previous page page, sir. (Previous to the page your post is on, not the same one)

I've just load 1080 up now on my N64. I'm enjoying it, but it's so difficult! I keep falling and flopping about when I land, with no idea of what I did wrong :(

WII-KLY UPDATE: TWO NEW CLASSIC GAMES ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

Jan. 14, 2008

This week you can spend your time carefully planning puzzle strategies or rescuing a damsel in distress. Help one of the most iconic characters in all of video gamedom eat some troublesome ghosts or set off to defeat an evil organization using only your furious fists. The choice is yours. What are you in the mood for?

Nintendo adds new games to the Wii™ Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

Pac-Attack (Super NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 800 Wii Points): Pac-Man makes a rare appearance outside of a maze environment in Pac-Attack, a fun and quirky puzzle game. This unique entry in the genre puts its own twist on established conventions and adds one of gaming's most iconic characters to the mix. The goal is simple: Keep your screen clear of falling blocks and ghosts by lining up blocks horizontally, causing them to disappear. Clearing the ghosts, though, requires the help of a hungry Pac-Man (who just happens to swing by every so often for a snack). It's up to you to get all of the ghosts lined up for him, because Pac-Man will keep eating them until he is stopped by a block or he runs out of ghosts. In addition, his range of movement on the playing field is limited to horizontal or downward—thus adding further strategy. There are three game modes to choose from: 1 Player Normal, 2 Player VS., and the challenging 1 Player Puzzle. Feel like gobbling up some ghosts?

Riot Zone (TurboGrafx16 CD-ROM, 1 player, Rated E 10+ for Everyone 10 and Older - Tobacco Reference, Violence, 800 Wii Points): Riot Zone is a side-scrolling fighting game that follows two heroes as they fight to take down an evil organization. The crime syndicate Dragon Zone has kidnapped Hawk's girlfriend and it's up to him and his partner detective, Tony, to get her back. Join them as they jump "fists first" into the grim Kowloon district. Play as Hawk or Tony and fight through all five stages in the deadly Kowloon district. Smash down the Dragon Zone goons in areas like the Harbor, Abandoned Warehouse and the Ghetto. Both characters have unique skills and attacks. Hawk is a master of karate, while Tony is a hard-hitter. That being said, both guys are massive and possess killer techniques. The hard-boiled action is enhanced by the game's realistic sound effects.

That's because unlike every other damn snowboarding game, if you don't land properly based on your board angle as well as the surface of the snow then you're bound to have your head meet your arse in a cascade of human blunder.

Once you're able to nail the landings (even a simple jump can be cumbersome at first) then 1080's greatness shoots through the roof. The best part about the game that I enjoyed was popping off a 360 over a small mound and watching the board cut through the top of the snow and spray it around, whilst landing it at the same time. Good ol' 1080.

2 per week is pretty crappy. It's only a matter of time before it goes to 1 per week, every other week, 1 per month, then stopped entirely. So many great games didn't make it out. Sad times...

Joke post? Surely?

Nothing like 1080. If they fix the slowdown that pops up here and there, it's going to be perfect.

Best two players sports game on the N64, better than Waverace, you know the match is not in the hands of fate and you have to work for it. Hard!

Only somewhat, is there anything (PR) saying we shouldn't expect to see the norm become 2 per week in the US, and a general decrease in the number of titles put out over the span of the Wii's life (to the point where they shut down the VC entirely)? Surely at some point the ability to even purchase released titles will be shut off.

And why can't they put out a good Tetris game on the VC? That one from N64 would be perfect.

It seems like this is becoming a true statement every other week as of late.

I bet you that we will have to cope with a slower pace. I don't want to bring back the thread at that discussion but the VC simply won't last as long as the Wii if the pace doesn't change. (and if Nintendo doesn't want to change their model of course).

Of course there's going to be a slowdown at some point, but to suggest that the current lull is a permanent slowdown seems premature.

Licensing issues, I expect. Wasn't Tetris DS only possible because of a loophole somewhere?

Why should there ever be a slowdown? If anything, 3/week is still too slow given the thousands of titles available for the six consoles. They could release a new Neo Geo game every week and have enough for the next few years.

Yeah, cooperation with THQ, since they hold the license.

I don't see why they can't just work out an agreement with THQ again for the VC releases.

I'd recommend Streets of Rage 2 if you have friends to play with, or else Blazing Lazers that's the greatest shoot'em up on VC. If you never played it there's Paper Mario too, one of the best games on VC, though it's a little bit easy as an RPG.

Hmmm, well I already used my WiiPoints but I am getting another card soon. I will consider those for sure. So far I just have Super Metroid and Landstalker in my gotta haves.

Sin and Punishment was the first VC I downloaded because of NeoGAF hype. I now want to own all Treasure games if that means anything.

p.s. What are the chances for GBA downloads? I want to play Advanced Wars and AstroBoy.

Treasure did 5 GBA games, I believe...

Astro Boy, Advance Guardian Heroes, Gunstar Super Heroes, Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster's Bad Dream, and Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting.

They didn't make Advance Wars, though you should definitely still play it. :)

...and of those "thousands of titles", how many are going to be available for release over the VC? Given that third parties seem to be slow to come to the VC and that there will be many, many titles ruled out of a release because of licensing / ownership issues - for example, I think the list of suitable NES/SNES/N64 titles may be much shorter than the 2,000-odd games that were produced.

Well, I know Treasure didn't do Advance Wars. I just want to play it regardless. Is Gunstar Super Heroes a port or a sequel.

They probably could, but I'm not sure if anyone really wants to pay 1200 points for Tetrisphere. :P

I wouldn't rule out a WiiWare Tetris from Nintendo though...

Treasure, RD1 and IntSys were solid gold on GBA. Not a bad game between them imo.

Even if the licensing issues were out of control there is still no reason to believe that a rate of 156 games per year couldn't be sustained for a few years.

Okay. Just need a hand here since I've narrowed my problem down to this:

My Airport and the Mac I use with it both work. I was able to go online with my DS without any problems. I can't get the Wii to work. I've tried it with WPA2, and WEP, and without any security settings at all. I've put in the settings manually and still nothing. I can't figure out how to get the thing to work and it keeps going to the 52130 error message. Bah.
I don't own a Mac but I did look up the error message on google and found this thread on macrumors.com, so if you wanna check that out: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=3079360

Gunstar Heroes was developed by Treasure, and came on on the Sega Genesis. It is avaliable on the VC. But you probably already knew that.

Be sure to pick up Ikaruga. A fantastic shooter developed by Treasure, and spiritual sequal to Raidant Silvergun, for Gamecube. Even though it was made for the GC, you can still play it on the Wii. I play my copy quite often. ^_^

Who is RD1 and what did they make? I am not familiar with them.
Nintendo R&D1 (now Nintendo SPD depts 1 & 2). Metroid, Kid Icarus, Dr. Mario, Wario Land/Ware, Rhythm Tengoku, Brain Training, Tetris (for Nintendo anyway) among others.

Hey, quick question for everyone...

Are all VC releases mapping buttons "the same way", or are there games that have unique button mappings?

That is, do all N64 games have the same button mappings, all Neo Geo games the same mappings, and all SNES or Genesis games the same?

If there are games with different button/stick mappings, which ones are they?

N64 games seem to be the only ones with varying button mapping. The buttons are uniform for all other systems.

I mean might want to change their vision with the VC and upload tons of titles in no time instead of gradually uploading. I like their present model personally. It keeps me interested and i'm always looking for updates. Nintendo probably likes it because i'm pretty sure this makes me buy more games.

Has anyone here purchased enough N64 games to help give me a rundown on the button changes/mappings for N64 games?
