Oddly, I don't think I've said the following sentence in this thread yet so here goes:

* Series 5 is hands down my favourite series of Doctor Who. *

Only one bad episode in the whole run. The others went from above average to excellent. And Matt Smith is likely my favourite Doctor.

Edit: Also, * 100 pages! Woo! *

This, and I'm working my way through all past series again just to prove it!

The great thing about Doctor Who is that it's so varied over nearly 50 years there's going to be periods that some people like and others don't, but I just don't get the hate some have for Series 5. I enjoyed RTD Who but this past series just seems so much better on every level it boggles my mind.

1. Which episode.

2. 50 posts a page? Son am I disappoint

One of the Silurian ones I'm guessing.

My final scores for the Series 5:

"The Eleventh Hour" 10
"The Beast Below" 6
"Victory of the Daleks" 3
"The Time of Angels""/"Flesh and Stone" 10
"The Vampires of Venice" 7
"Amy's Choice"" 8
"The Hungry Earth"/"Cold Blood"" 3
"Vincent and the Doctor" 8
"The Lodger" 8
"The Pandorica Opens"/"The Big Bang" 9

Well if we're scoring them...

"The Eleventh Hour" 9
"The Beast Below" 6
"Victory of the Daleks" 7
"The Time of Angels""/"Flesh and Stone" 10
"The Vampires of Venice" 7
"Amy's Choice"" 8
"The Hungry Earth"/"Cold Blood"" 4
"Vincent and the Doctor" 9
"The Lodger" 9
"The Pandorica Opens"/"The Big Bang" 9

"The Eleventh Hour" 8
"The Beast Below" 6
"Victory of the Daleks" 5
"The Time of Angels""/"Flesh and Stone" 9
"The Vampires of Venice" 7
"Amy's Choice"" 8
"The Hungry Earth"/"Cold Blood"" 4
"Vincent and the Doctor" 9
"The Lodger" 8
"The Pandorica Opens"/"The Big Bang" 10

Cold Blood.

I thought you'd say that.

Hey, all the cool kids go 100 pages a pop :p

Anyway, Cold Blood was baaaaaad, but it just makes The Hungry Earth retroactively bad as well. Sucky thing about two-parters- if the conclusion sucks, it drains the set-up of any sort of tension or excitement as well. :/

"The Eleventh Hour" 9
"The Beast Below" 6
"Victory of the Daleks" 6
"The Time of Angels""/"Flesh and Stone" 8
"The Vampires of Venice" 7
"Amy's Choice"" 7
"The Hungry Earth"/"Cold Blood"" 5
"Vincent and the Doctor" 9
"The Lodger" 9
"The Pandorica Opens"/"The Big Bang" 8

The previous series (27 to Fnarg) would be filled with very low numbers, and I think Blink would be the one 10 I would give out.

Go on then. Indulge me:

"The Eleventh Hour" 8
"The Beast Below" 7
"Victory of the Daleks" 5
"The Time of Angels"/"Flesh and Stone" 10
"The Vampires of Venice" 7
"Amy's Choice" 9
"The Hungry Earth"/"Cold Blood" 3
"Vincent and the Doctor" 9
"The Lodger" 9
"The Pandorica Opens"/"The Big Bang" 9

Because its what we're doing:

"The Eleventh Hour" [9]

"The Beast Below" [6]

"Victory of the Daleks" [6]

"The Time of Angels" [9]

"Flesh and Stone" [7]

"The Vampires of Venice" [5]

"Amy's Choice" [10]

"The Hungry Earth" [5]

"Cold Blood"" [6]

"Vincent and the Doctor" [8]

"The Lodger" [2]

"The Pandorica Opens" [9]

"The Big Bang" [9]

Strong season with a couple of dips. Amy's Choice is the standout episode for me, its one of the most perfect episodes in Who history.

Hurry up, I want to see your reaction to Partners in Crime :(

Well, Netflix won't let me watch Voyage of the Damned, so I'm onto Partners in Crime, I suppose. Did I miss anything major in that one?

The Eleventh Hour - 8
The Beast Below - 6
Victory of the Daleks - 5
The Time of Angels - 9
Flesh and Stone - 8
The Vampires of Venice - 7
Amy's Choice - 9
The Hungry Earth - 4
Cold Blood - 2
Vincent and the Doctor - 8
The Lodger - 7
The Pandorica Opens - 8
The Big Bang - 5

I too think series 5 is easily the best of new Who and Matt Smith unquestionably the best modern Doctor (it seems pointless to compare new Who with old).

Nah, not much.

Just Kylie Minogue.

On the Titanic.

IN SPACE.

Introduction of a major character called
Wilfred Mott
. He gets reintroduced so its not a big problem. He's the most awesome character in the RTD years, it would be nice if you could see him from the start.

And guy-I-thought-was-the-new-Doctor-for-five-minutes-and-all-around-great-actor-wasted-in-bit-parts, Russel Tovey:

I hope Torchwood doesn't make it so he can't be The Doctor one day.

I think RTD pretty much stated that, if he were still the head-writer on Doctor Who and Tennant would have left, he'd have done everything in his power to make Tovey the 11th Doctor. :lol

Awww. I like Kylie. I like Space. I want to see the two combine.

EDIT: Oh, that's disgusting. And sort of cute. In a gross "Penguin-esque blob of fat" sort of way.

I'm so conflicted my head might explode. RTD bad. Smith good. No, Smith best. Tovey better? GAHHHHH!

Another great candidate at the time, Paterson Joseph (AKA Johnson from Peep Show):

If I were Doctor Who showrunner and, like RTD, I got two Doctors, Tovey and Joseph would be mine.

I think I've seen some people hate on the episode here, but I really enjoyed it. Especially for what it was - a big, action-y festive episode full of the Doctor saving the day from rather impossible stuff. And it's still the best watched episode of new-Who yet. ;) There's plenty of other ways for you to be able to watch the episode, I'm sure, so... definitely worth seeking it out.

My favorite rumor for 11th Doctor was David Thewlis, but I just couldn't imagine him actually taking the job.

After seeing him in Neverwhere, Paterson Joseph woudl have been a very interesting pick.

Was never int eh running, but I wouldn't have minded the guy who played Mason on Dead Like Me to have gotten on either.

And Rupert Grint for 12th Doctor.

If I remember correctly, that Writer's Tale book by RTD has about two pages worth of him gushing about Tovey. You can be 99,9% certain that he'd have been the next Doctor if RTD could decide. :lol

So. There are only 13 incarnations, right? So who should play the final one? The Last Doctor.

Hm. I see where Donna gets her beak and talons from - her mom. Donna's sort of lovable in this episode right now. I'm sure that'll change.

EDIT: Fantastic shot of the Doctor in the Tardis all alone, staring up at the central pillar. Nice conveyance of emotion.

Watching first episode? Like I said a few pages ago, I thought the series 4 premiere was a silly but fun episode.

Technically, yes, there's 13 incarnations. But I don't see the show ending there. The Master's used up all his regenerations about three times already; it was supposedly a limit created by the Time Lords themselves, and there's no Time Lords left anyway; it takes five seconds to write a scene in which the Doctor 'magically' gets a fresh set of regenerations.

(Donna's far less intense this season, too, so that's good.)

Limited regenerations is an old-Who thing. There's not really any direct evidence it's still an issue. Easy explanation is it was Time Lord imposed (since they obviously had the ability to grant extensions), and since they're all gone there's no one to enforce it.

At most they'll use it as a plot device to wring out some extra tension to the 'last' regeneration, but it's not like they're going to end the show on the basis of some bit of ancient canon.

Very well. The evil head of the ADIPOSE Industries is awesome as an evil bitch. She scares me :lol

The miming scene between Donna and the Doctor was great. So was Donna's solution to getting inside.

"JUST SMASH IT!"

Who is the Matron? I would watch anything with her in it. Amazing actress.

"You know what happens when you hold two sonic devices against each other?"
"No."
"Me either! Let's find out!"

:lol

Welp, that's the last we'll see of her. And I laughed heartily at Donna inviting herself along the ride.

You know what's weird? Rose and Eccleston had chemistry. Rose and Tennant didn't. Martha and Tennant didn't.

Donna? Donna and Tennant have mad chemistry. Like, it'd be almost believable as a couple.

AH! IT'S ROSE! WHAT?!

EDIT: I liked that episode, fat blobs notwithstanding. And I'm not talking about Donna.

Donna gets panned a lot, but I think she's bloody brilliant. She's a great counter to Ten, and Tate's a better actress with considerable more range than Billie and Freema.

She's seems to travel with Ten more as an equal than the others, which I liked.

There's some brilliant stuff coming up this season. Don't know if anyone has mentioned Turn Left yet, superb ep.

How come nobody mentions the doctor who animated special? That was really awesome.
Dreamland? Or the other one? Heard they were both kinda awful, never watched 'm.

And, yes, Tennant and Tate seem to adore each other in real-life too. They hosted some radioshows together, filling in for someone, and were hilarious together. So, yes, Tate rocks.

oh shit, there were 2 of them. Both with Tennant, one 2D and one 3D. They're not bad.

One's pirate-themed with Martha, the other's Area 51 with the Doc on his own.
