I'm so conflicted my head might explode. RTD bad. Smith good. No, Smith best. Tovey better? GAHHHHH!

Another great candidate at the time, Paterson Joseph (AKA Johnson from Peep Show):

If I were Doctor Who showrunner and, like RTD, I got two Doctors, Tovey and Joseph would be mine.

He was who I was rooting for. I still hold hope that he becomes the 12th Doctor.

It would be great to go from young and kooky to older and suave.

Limited regenerations is an old-Who thing. There's not really any direct evidence it's still an issue. Easy explanation is it was Time Lord imposed (since they obviously had the ability to grant extensions), and since they're all gone there's no one to enforce it.

At most they'll use it as a plot device to wring out some extra tension to the 'last' regeneration, but it's not like they're going to end the show on the basis of some bit of ancient canon.

If anything, it would be a good story if there was ever a Doctor who movie.

The Fires of Pompeii. Really great sets and some interesting CGI.

I'm actually starting to really like Donna. Definitely a change from Rose and Martha. Plus, there is a girl in this (the daughter of the art collector) who looks like Alexis Bledel mixed with River Tam, so that's a bonus.

EDIT: So, Doctor saves http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucius_Caecilius_Iucundus from dying. Guess he didn't die before an earthquake after all. EDUTAINMENT!

Also, Francesca Fowler is the above actress.

See everyone has their reservations about Donna due to her first appearance but she really is super awesome. You're gonna love her by the end of the series.

Yeah, well that first episode from season 3 had her basically fill the role of a screeching harpy from hell.

Yeah, Donna is probably the best
female
companion from the Tennant era because there's actual chemistry between the two. There wasn't really that kind of chemistry between Tennant and Billie, and especially Tennant and Freema (in retrospect, the whole Ten/Martha pair is so odd).

This is also why Matt and Karen work so well together in S5; they seem to be good friends outside the show.

I knew you'd come around to Donna. She's a refreshing change from Martha and Rose. Good episode too.

She doesn't want it unless you're the Doctor.
I wonder if she'd like his first few regenerations. :lol
Maybe the 3rd. He was James Bond Doctor Who.

Also, blatant Jo Grant panty shots are always welcome.

Speaking of which, whoever wrote the Fires of Pompeii really understood how silly Tennant looks while trying to be bad ass. So to undermine the other writer who think he should be a superhero, they had him run around with a squirt gun and a grimace in one scene that was absolutely brilliant. The writer of Pompeii understood the Doctor, IMO.

James Moran, who apparently only wrote the one episode. Shame, really. He gets it.

Yesssss.

Donna rocks. She was the only companion that did travel as an equal to the Doctor on New Who. Rather like Romana until they maimed that characterisation.

Which is why I'm still incredibly angry with how they ended her character. She was finally happy and they had to do that.

I love Doctor 3 but he's mostly grounded on Earth due to his TARDIS being disabled by time lords.

What does he do? Open an actual medical practice?

Isn't grounding the Doctor to one time and place sort of like forcing Kirk to stay on Earth while remaining celibate?

I think I remember seeing that he had a car.

That's probably why, he wanted something sort of replacing the Tardis.

The Doctormobile?

They bring all the enemies to him. There are episodes were he does get off world or manageS to travel in time but he mostly works with UNIT to fight incoming threats. His character is very influenced by James Bond and other spy adventures of the time. A strange departure from the rest of the Who characters.

My personal favourite story for the 3rd Doctor is the green death, mostly because it was the first time I had seen Doctor Who but also the Maggots. Really really horrible maggots. Maggots!

That was good ole Bessie! :)
What a grand car.

And Jo Grant was insufferable.

Well, the ever-helpful Google says no. But, she is naked on page 1 of Google image search, so there is something to be said for that, I suppose.

Daleks aren't for that D:

Still she's alright.

...and then they went and brought her back for McCoy, only to have the poor old thing used as transport for a girls' night out!

Ah, but she did give us one of my favourite Doctor-parting-with-companion moments as Pertwee slips quietly away from the party for Jo and Clifford.

Heh. ISTR seeing something about that:

Yep, one of the best bits of the classic series. Half the time, companions would just randomly decide they'd rather stay in Wolverhampton than continue travelling with the Doctor.

Also, Jo Grant gets to meet Matt Smith in the next series of Sarah Jane Adventures.

Heh :)

I think my other favourite from the classic series was the departure of Susan/Carole Ann Ford. She was prepared to sacrifice her own happiness to stay with the Doctor, only for him to take the decision out of her hands and force her to leave, sacrificing his relationship with her for her to enjoy a real life outside of the TARDIS. It fit perfectly with the slightly arrogant nature of Hartnell's Doctor and it must have been pretty strong stuff for its time.

"Oh Doctor why don't you take a break and stop working on that silly thing?"

"Jo, can you teach me some escapeology so I can get the hell away from you?"

God, I love that.

Can someone explain the hate for this guy? I've only seen him in that Doctor Who episode and thought the whole episode was great.
He's a fat, talentless, smug idiot who makes a living from being a fat, talentless, smug idiot. He didn't make me hate that episode though, I still enjoyed it.

I didn't like him, (he's probably the bad part about that episode) But it was neat seeing The Doctor act all mr. popular.

I'd say what the hell is he doing playing sports, but I remember he used to play Cricket right?

After seeing that awesome children in need special, I just got that I think that's why David Tennant said "You were my doctor" Was he the one he grew up watching?
