Official Enchant Arm (Xbox 360) Appreciation Thread

(Thanks very much to BlimBlim for running the best site I've ever seen for a specific console, and for making my hype possible.)

Despite all of the pain I've been through, I'm still a fan of the Final Fantasy RPGs, and the Japanese fantasy RPG template is so compelling to me that I even considered buying Baten Kaitos.

Enchant Arm, a Japanese RPG for the 360 that appears to have quite a high-budget and "Final-Fantasy-like" art direction, is currently uncofirmed for release in North America, even though it's a launch game in Japan. Is anyone besides me actually excited for this game?

hmm.. appreciation threads should be saved for a game long after its come out, IMO.

This should be an "unfounded hype" thread. Given the developers track record on such things... this is the From Software game right? Unless it has a mech in it, dont touch anything they make... and even then stick to Frame Gride.

So far I did not see much as proof that Enchant Arm will be a really good game. Considering this is the Otogi team behind this game, and thus this will be their first RPG, there is a lot of chances it will be average at best.
And I still have this game (along with a japanese xbox 360) on preorder.

i was gonna make the same thread.

i'm glad other people are enthused by this game. hopefully it'll play as good as it looks. :)

Blim, I was going to ask, what about the game makes it "too japanese?" Did you ever get around to posting your gameplay vid?

Too bad about the prospects for release. I really think it looks like they pulled themselves up by the bootstraps and did something cool with this one.

A bunch of academy students who use sentinent creatures to fight vs. an ice witch. Gee, where have I seen this before? :lol

Graphics are neat, but the battles look bad according to videos I've seen

Found more screens on that site:

5-character party looks fun. Don't know what to think about "CoreLost" and "CoreBreak."

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

So frightening

I really want to see what it looks like ingame, like interacting with NPCs, buying items, getting into battles etc. All I've really seen is a lot of CG, and a couple of summon circles in battles, oh and a lot of running throughout the world.

Here are the 2 gameplay vids (non-trailers) that Blim has:

http://www.xboxyde.com/leech_1699_en.html
http://www.xboxyde.com/leech_1698_en.html

(In the first one, the player pretty much walks around, talking to people in Japanese. The second one has some battle stuff).

it looks interesting but yeah, like menioned above, not enough of the actual game has been shown for me to determine wether it's fun to play.

these screen shots look really impressive.

and the reason why people aren't excited for this game is cuz the hype hasn't started yet. but if u keep throwing up these screenshots, it's only a matter of time before the anticipation starts to build.

again the environments look beatiful. and most of those screens look like gameplay to me.

1 of the best looking games for the 360 so far.

Really impressive stuff. I just hope this doesn't pull an "Evergrace" or something and end up looking like ass in the end...

Japanese RPGs are becoming stale.....Those male protagonists look like they're on their way to shop at Dolce&Gabbana rather than slaying demons, and saving the world....

The video and these screenshots are actually very good-looking, even though [eM] strikes me as generic. The game deserves credit for the reasonable amount of detail in its enviornment, considering it's a first software generation game for the Xbox 360. But I can't escape the feeling that the game will play like a slug with all the forced conversations and J-RPG trappings. The jury's still out, but I wouldn't mind [eM] if it proves good in the end. (I was also under the impression that [eM] was meant for North American release at some point, but we'll see about that too, I guess?)

whoa, i just watched the 2nd vid, & i'm impressed.

it looks like it's gonna be fun as hell & the spell effects look great. exactly what i expect from a good rpg.

i just hope it gets good reviews & makes it to the States.

like momolicious the voice acting is VERY annoying.

The battle on the otherhand looks really nice. I like the grid idea, I hope everything comes out well balanced.

Overall the game looks nice, but besides the pretty graphics, it's starting to look less and less appealing to me for some reason, I was amazed when they first showed the game.

I love Otogi and the King's Field series, and JRPGs as a genre, so count me among the excited.

Are those From Software games as well? It's just that I'm not too familiar with the developer of [eM], which happens to be From. We'll see, I guess.

Yeah, they're all From. I'm pretty sure From has multiple teams inside it though, so I don't know what staff is working on eM.

Blim says its the Otogi team, which is really good news because those games rock. BUT their RPG experience is zero... and to be honest, From Software generally releases C- games, and every now and then will make a good game (the original Armored Core, Frame Gride, Otogi, some of the early Kings Field games). From Software rarely lay a goosegg, but they generally release very bland, very average games.

I am interested in this game too...I am getting it if it's ever released here...I hope someone will bring it over...

btw, anyone knows the song title and who sing that song in the latest trailer??

...Lucky Dan? Is that you?

(Wow Shaman...Kramer?)

I'd buy an X360 on launch day if this was available in English. It doesn't look very next gen technically, but it looks yummy nonetheless.

whoa... never thought about getting a 360. more and more I'm warming to the idea of getting one. this game looks very impressive.

Well, I guess I'll try and show some love too... I wrote this a while back when I was bored. It's speculation based on what I knew at the time (basically, the trailer and the website). After the 2nd trailer I've got a good feeling about the game (well, better than before).

As to "lucky dan" that's "warasha-man go-remu", which either is "WARA (from warau = to laugh/smile or wara = straw, probably straw) Shaman Golem" or a weird spelling of "War Shaman Golem".

Anyway...

Atsuma: Turns out Atsuma's right hand seems to have a Devil Golem sealed within it, so either Atsuma was A) used as the vessel to seal the Devil Golem B) possesses "cursed blood" or C) is the reincarnation of a Devil Golem. Much in line with Atsuma's fiery and quick to act, slow to think personality the Devil Golem is fire based. That Dragon you saw with the sword (2 cents says the sword's named Raganarok) is Atsuma's Devil Golem that at some point he will be able to control as his main golem. Atsuma's story will focus on him trying to maintain his humainty as he's slowly swallowed up by the newly awakened presence in his right arm.

Touya: Atsuma's dear best friend (and their friendship is key) is the cool calculating type. He early on is somehow possessed or manipulated by the Devil Golem Queen of Ice. As such, Touya readily goes with her and fights with Atsuma. The emotional struggle of Touya and Atsuma, best friends who must fight, will be a central theme. However, at some point due to their strong friendship (probably will come to a head at that scene with the dragon and ice), Touya will be freed and he and Atsuma will fight Queen of Ice and when beaten somehow Touya will make Queen of Ice his main golem. Thus giving him the ice element.

Karin: In an attempt to kill the Devil Golems for whatever reason she keeps silent to herself til at least half way through the game she angrily over emotionally fights the golems with Atsuma, not to help, but for revenge or to learn something for herself. In reality though, she quite fragile and at some point will have a breakdown. She will then rveal why she's fighting and acting like a brat (or some such other word that starts with "B"). Karin being a fighter will probably have either a non-elemental Devil Golem or just a physical attack one (same thing). I'm guessing that her element is gold (metal) and that scene where she disappears was her fusing or some such thing with that metalic golem or whatever it is.

Makoto: Makoto, the mutual friend of Atsuma and Touya, will fight along side just because. Fairly free spirited and flows one way or the other as the mood suits him, mainly 'cause he's a trouble maker and likes to tease. He's probably their for comedy relief; getting Atsuma in trouble and causing funny odd situtations, which is a bit stereotypical (the gays meddlers and flippitant garbage... at least he isn't pulling "Okama Kicks"). As his personality might suggest along with is weapon (saxaphone... or wind instruments in general) his Devil Golem will be wind based. I imagine a bird of sometype?

Raiga: Ah yes the strong silent type. Raiga's story will be centered in the past. Some tragic story where he lost his family or something and Karin's father saved him. To add meaning to his presence, aside from Karin's protector, the wo/man involved with the tragic incident will somehow be tied to the current craziness with Atsuma. Raiga is strong and where green clothes. This suggests the his Devil Golem's element with be nature basd. A monster tree perhaps, or a Malboro or something? I can see a wolf also working.

Yuuki: Ah yes, the newly announced character. Yuuki bright and rambunchious (SP? sheesh) with a smile always on her face. She never let's anything get her down and will be a bit of comedy relief tied in with cutesy incidents. In reality, she's suffered some great injustice and is wounded terribly to her very core, but like a little trooper she goes on. She joins the group under some strange and silly pretense, but has some alterior motive in a similar vein as Karin. And at some point when the group feels all hope lost her inner strength will give the group will to rise again. As a high spirited girl it only make sense that her Devil Golem's element is electric in nature. Although, I've ventured Makoto will have a bird Devil Golem I keep thinking hers would be a Thunderbird.

Basic story:

Earthquake in area... Atsuma and Touya and maybe Makoto investigate... Atsuma's Devil Golem arm awakens Queen of Ice... Queen of Ice controls Touya and makes him fight Atsuma... after fight she runs away with Touya (scene where Atsuma's Devil Golem arm catches queen of ice then the escape scene)... Atsuma after learning a little about what's going on goes in search of Touya, Makoto joins him... they meet Karin and Raiga, a little tiff and spat (no emotional ties between Karin and Atsuma I think) they join up... sometime later they meet Yuuki, she joins up... at some point in this process Touya is regained where in the story I dunno... the group then learns that queen of ice isn't the real threat... there's some GREATER evil who has been pulling the strings all along... the group together beat evil and happy days or not.

Yeah, I think the way I'm responding to this game shows how much Microsoft needed real support from Japan. Those of us not into sports games and FPS's don't get all that into Western-developed games. Now with Square Enix behind them and titles like this, who knows. The 360 is definitely going to be a class-act machine compared to the previous incarnation.

i would buy this game off the strength of just wanting to see some of the spell effects.

some of these last screens look amazing.
