Who would do that anyway? Even with the co-op implemented, it would probably be fun to just go around exploring out of the way dungeons and whatnot.


There are supposed to be dungeons and areas not directly associated with the story right?

I've been playing it for around thirty hours and not touched a load of sidequests. It's short if you blast through it, but you're a fool if you do because you're missing out on a ton of stuff. Apparently there's plenty you can do once the story's over too, which I certainly plan on doing.

And yeah, there are loads of sidequests.

Unfortunately, I can't finish the game because my debug console just died on me during what I'm fairly certain is the very final part of the climax. Awesome. :(

Yep, there's loads. Tons of sidequests in areas you've already visited, too. If you want to get all the gargoyles and silver keys as well, unless you're some kind of speedrun genius it's going to take you over 50 hours. Probably well over.

How big would you say the world is in comparison to the original fable, and a game like Oblivion?

Also, how are you playing this?

Didn't play that much of the original, but from the little I did play, I'd say this is loads bigger.

And it's totally different to Oblivion in the sense that it's a bunch of areas that are linked rather than one huge open world.

Besides, as everyone knows, it's not the size, it's what you do with it that counts. ;)

Fable II is packed with things to see and do - it's a more compact world than Oblivion, but you'll rarely be wandering for more than a few seconds without spotting an enemy, a path off the beaten track, a treasure chest, a silver key, a secret area, a residence, an abandoned settlement...

And I'm playing this because I write about games for a living.
 
hero, how about the "loot"? do you find a lot of costumes/armor, weapons or cool items in general? or do you have to buy most of the stuff?

Not me... I actually got my Halo 3 order the day before the actual release. :lol I was a bit agitated that I couldn't cancel my order once I realized they probably couldn't get it here in time, but it worked out. Halo's the only game I really care about getting early. :p

Yeah, some really cool stuff is only available on sidequests, and if you teach your dog to be a better hunter (through buying training books) he'll dig up some quality items for you, and lead you to plenty of treasure chests. Of course, some of the best items have to be bought, but you'll get lots of decent loot by attempting plenty of missions outside the main story.
 
According to the tracking number the NewEgg rep gave me, it should arrive tomorrow at about 10:30AM.

Until then, I will be stokin' my game boner.

What! I thought I ordered before you guys, but my order got updated to not shipping until the 20th?? Oh well, tough luck, I'll get it soon enough. This is gunna be a loong weekend though.

That one isn't mine. Just another person on the GameFAQ boards who picked up on the deal early. So I do not doubt that he is in possession of the title.

How did you get word it wasn't shipping until the 20th? I do believe you shipped earlier than myself. I did the overnight with the rush fee.
 
My order (today 11:25 CT) from newegg.com is listed as "Shipped," but no tracking number yet. Not surprising, from my past orders from them, the tracking number could arrived in middle of the night.

Doesn't matter, at worst, get the game next week at can't beat total price of $54 + 3 day UPS shipping. Actually, was expecting Dead Space (also order today) to ship instead looks like tomorrow.

I ordered at 9:21am their time, and I just called FedEx and they told me that a label has been printed, but that they haven't received a package yet. The guy said that it was "very odd" for me to have placed an order in the morning and requested Overnight Delivery, and the company has not dropped it off by 5pm their time. He basically told me that I shouldn't plan on getting it tomorrow, and that they must be "holding it for some reason."

I guess that's the difference... but that's weird, since technically, it shouldn't matter since the package was never even given to the shipping company.

I did overnight w/ rush fee too, I ordered early this morning but was kinda busy through the day so never went and checked too see if it shipped, didn't get an email about it, until late this afternoon I got an order update email saying my purchase was now expected to come the 21st. So I don't know what happened, but oh well, I have work that needs to get done this weekend anyways. Now I just gotta keep myself away from spoilers and early impressions for a few more days, I want this to be a completely fresh experience.

edit: I have UPS too

Nope, says charged. Don't know if it said anything earlier, like I said I hadn't checked before I got the email saying it wasn't coming till next week.

Once it reads "shipped" on newegg, then you typically can't cancel. Newegg will say that it is shipped and that the shipper is holding it, and the shipper will say that it hasn't been dropped off. And that's all you'll get.

This is the risk we take when we try and pull this sort of thing... looks like you and I gambled and lost.
 
So tempted to buy a 360 for this game. Hard to justify for 1 game though. If only I had lots of cash monies.
 
Just a heads up to those who ordered at GS/EB: I was at Gamestop and asked if they were doing a midnight launch for Fable 2. Both employees there said no more midnight launches for any of their mall stores... not for Fable, Gears, anything. =/

There's a big chance they were just misinformed or only referring to that specific mall, but those of you wanting to get it at midnight might wanna check and make sure.

Considering how many 360 exclusives there are (and a good number of them are dirt cheap now) the "only 1 game" excuse doesn't seem to make much sense. Considering the $199 will play the game just fine.

Yea, called my store yesterday and they confirmed they were having one. Although it isn't in a mall.

You helped me in giving me the thought to call UPS to figure out why they didn't deliver my 360 to MS's repair shop today like they were supposed to. Turns out they missed the damn thing and failed to deliver it. >:( Fuckers.....Now I have to call them tomorrow to make sure they don't miss another day, WTH? It just spent a whole day sitting at a UPS store in the same city. Thanks UPS, that's what brown did for me.
