Official Fable II Thread

Yeah, if anyone else is having the "my friends can't hear me, but everyone else can" problem, I'd like to hear about it, or hear any ideas on how to get rid of it. I don't know what else to do to try and fix it, and it would be really nice not to have to remove someone from my friends list so that they can hear me in-game.

Oh sweet! Thanks for quoting his post as I totally missed it. I ordered from Amazon too and was worried about them lacking the cards. Hopefully it was from the same distribution center and we get the "full" LE contents also.

What the fuck is up with GameStop and not wanting to sell games (they have in stock) to you?

I'm all like, "hey, gamestop, here is my money... please take it."
And they are all like, "oh you want the liiiiimited edition? Sorry sir, store policy is if you did not pre order it I cannot sell LE or CE to you."

wtf? ive called 3 stores already, who the hell turns down money when you have the product?

They are trying to 'encourage' you to take advantage of their fine pre-order system in the future. It's pretty lame.

For those who have played it, can your dog ever die in combat? Does he have hit points, or is he basically invincible?

Providing he does actually fight alongside you.

He does fight with you. I have never seen mine die, but he does get injured, at which point he stops fighting and moves off to the side. You have to heal him, or you'll leave him behind.

I don't think he can die.

Jesus, I can't believe I'm defending this game, I remember being offered sweeties by Peter only to find out there were none in his van with Fable 1. The issue here is he's not offered any sweeties; you're either going into the orgy fully prepared to enjoy it, or your going in there only to complain about being fucked.

He doesnt really "fight" but will finish off downed enemies. Has no visible hit points/meter but can take damage/get injured and will walk with a limp and whimper until healed.

That's pretty cool. At the point where you are right now, has the dog changed at all? I'm just wondering if he has any attributes and can be upgraded in any way, or if he pretty much stays the same throughout the game (which would be perfectly fine).

I'll ask again. Is the patch a quick download? Might pick it up and head home to download the patch so I can play right away tonight. If it's a 10 minute download it will take me an hour and a half to download it as I'm having issues so I'd really appreciate if one person could tell me how long it took them.

Zeliard, Molyneux gave an example on how the dog can be injured and subsequently abandoned. You can leave the dog but it might just show up later when you least expect it, like in a town or something.

If you bought Fable 2 just for it's co-op you are an idiot.

So the main complaint is you don't get your custom "look" when you jump into Co-op. How is this game breaking in any way? I can see why some would want it, but not why people would be freaking out about it not being in the game.

The camera issue is also funny to me. Why would you want to go off without the person you are playing co-op with? What is the point in playing Co-op if you aren't going to play with someone else? You mean to tell me you want to jump into someone else's world, not play with them, go off, and do meaningless activities, that help your character and his in no way shape or form? Why even play Co-op then? :lol

I don't get Gaf sometimes.

I had that happen.

Didnt realize my dog was injured and ran off to finish a quest. Couldnt find him for a good while and then he turned up in town in front of the house with my wife :lol

Who'd purposefully abandon such a helpful critter? :P

I'm wondering if the dog visibly ages as time goes on, since your character does.

This happened to me in my broken file. Since I can't access the menu, and expressions don't show up, I can't heal my dog, so I have to leave him behind. It only takes a few minutes for him to catch up, though, when you arrive at a new place.

Does the game simply equip you with some stock weapons/armor then? Are they based on your hero's level at least?
NOTHING is based on your Hero. Nothing. You pick your alignment, and you have some weapons you can choose from, and I believe your level is based on the person whose world you're in (it is definitely not based on your Hero, I just don't know whether or not it is always level one or if it's based on the world's level).

The entire game is about creating your own look, why shouldn't that carry over to the co-op-component? Blizzard has proven this possible with dozens of players on screen, Lionhead should be able to pull off two custom characters. As someone mentioned earlier: after spending hours on creating your awesome looking car in Forza, would you enjoy going online with a car that handles exactly the same, but looks like it belongs in the scrapyard?

The camera issue is also funny to me. Why would you want to go off without the person you are playing co-op with? What is the point in playing Co-op if you aren't going to play with someone else? Here you are partly right. Sure, to emphasize co-op, you need to restrict. But sharing a camera is not the way to go IMHO. If you get attacked from off screen, you want to turn the camera, but now you can't because you buddy is too busy poking around in a treasurechest or something. That's a massive designflaw IMHO.

Just cancelled my preorder due to the totally bullshit implementation of co-op. This was the game's big selling feature, and my gf was totally disinterested in playing after I told her how it worked.

I'm really glad I brought this up in the thread before it actually shipped out because otherwise I might've been stuck with the game thinking the co-op would allow you to import your characters, just like the other people here who were confused that it would actually be real co-op.

I've read in interviews prior to the game's release that you could import your character, and Henchman were pretty much reserved for players who were 'dropping by for a beer' and didn't already have a character or gamertag.

Seriously, it couldn't have been hard to make it at least look like the character you created and have the same equipment. Virtua Fighter 5... a fighting game, is able to do this. Why was this design choice made? Like... there's no custom textures or anything... you're just displaying your character with the ingame graphics/stats/equipment that are already on each player's disc. It boggles my mind that one of the most touted features of the Fable series: how your character looks and is shaped by the world, is thrown out the window when you want to play Fable II's other big feature: co-op.

This co-op, especially since it had to be patched in on release date and was behind schedule, is a huge embarassment.

It takes a lot out of tactical strategy when you can't split apart to sourround an enemy or 'you take the high road and ill take the low road' and we'll clear this dungeon out twice as fast, etc. There are lots of reasons to be upset about sharing a screen in a non-linear game.

Forced tunnel vision takes a lot of the point OUT of fighting with someone, since you essenetially have to fight the same enemies at the same time.

Every patch for any game on the 360 is a 2 second download when you boot up the game.

One of the main things in fable is the appearance of the character changing according to the players behaviour. Another thing that Molyneux told people about was the lack of armor, because everyone dressed in the same armor and without it everyone could dress the way THEY want.

When it comes to running around without them there are the small things, such as running to the store alone etc and the bigger things; just playing in the same world, running around and doing whatever you want.

But of course, it is meaningless because you want it to be, and having the choice would of course be bad.

Will I be able to unlock the extra LE content at any time or do I need to download the content early in the game to enjoy the benefits?

picky, picky, picky. Im sorry but I find that ridiculous. You're missing out on a great Singleplayer game.

Yes, and when people go to your world they'll see exactly how you look and you've changed it.

Oh, you mean the thing that orbs were put in for as a compromise because full on co-op wouldn't work?

But of course, it is meaningless because you want it to be, and having the choice would of course be bad.

Yes, everybody loves choices in game. I mean it's not like people complained about your choice to quickload in Bioshock rather than respawn. Here though it's a choice which would go against the design of the game.

seems like his primary concern regarding Fable 2 was to have something to sink time into with his significant other.

Hardly ridiculous.

Co-op was the main reason I was interested. I will probably still pick it up, but I'm in no hurry now. Without co-op how is this game not Fable 1.5? I'm guessing the story is better and longer, but why not rent it?

Games like Crackdown and Saints 2 I would never touch without co-op. It adds +2 to the score of any game, if done right.

You don't find a game that is all about your character's style, choices and personality has a feature in the game that throws that out the window ... ridiculous?

Why does a gimped online make it Fable 1.5?

how about the orbs, dog, dynamic world etc...

I get being dissapointed by the co-op online implementation but some of these posts are fucking crazy.

Hmm, I'm not sure about this game anymore either. Maybe I'll rent it instead. But it seems like one of those games where it's still fun after you beat it, and even replaying it over again...so I dunno.

Just got home from Circuit City.

I had to decide between a more expensive LE edition where the only special stuff was a different case, a card to download stupid suits I would never even wear (I hate Halo 2 and up and meh to a light sabre) and a DVD that will probably be on YouTube soon anyway... and a plain version.

I bought the plain one. And I don't care. (Plus I saw the LE's in the case didn't have the sticker on them implying they might be the ones without the card to download the stuff I didn't want anyway)

Plus I got a $15 iTunes card which I will get a LOT of use out of. (Well, $15 worth of use. I buy iTMS songs all the time.)

Haven't even played yet. What the hell am I doing posting?? I must away...

Alright Sir, the Co-op may not exactly be what was promised. Maybe its just me but when a game like this has so many other great features going for it, I dont mind that the Co-op isnt all that great...I see past that. Not making excuses but IMO there's so much more features and shit to do in this game right now that its silly to give up on it completely. I respect your opinion though and it did seem that Co-op was a big selling point for you.

-1 sale.

I see the Crybabies are still in full force on this thread. Any actual impressions from the new comers to the game?....THE GAME THAT RECIEVED 9's AND 10's FOR ITS SINGLE PLAYER EXPERIENCE??

So I might grab a copy of Fable 2 (as in probably buy) when I go drop off The Force Unleashed at Blockbuster. There's like a futureshop close by, two ebgames, bestbuy, and walmart. All within reasonable walking distance I would say.

Don't let some crazy (being nice here) folks get to you. The SP is superb. Hence all of the great reviews. The coop issue being a dealbreaker for some is beyond nonsensical to me.

" Anything you earn in my world as a henchman you can port back into your world."

In reference to EXP/gold blatantly. What can't your co-op partner do.

" This character here is based on his hero if he has a profile on this box."
" If he doesn't, it's generated based on who I am or what I'm like."

You undo yourself here " This character here is based on his hero if he has a profile on this box." this is exactly what happens and you're complaining about it? Not the term BASED ON between IS, HIS and HERO

http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/07/09/create-a-henchman-in-fable-2/
" Plugging in a second controller brings up a menu which then allows the second player to create a new henchman and carry on playing. Sounds like just the ticket for some casual gaming friends who don't want to bother creating their own full character. "

Here you based your opinions on somebody's assumption from the prestigious gaming site 360 fanboy. Why wouldn't a proper journalist put forwards a question into this issue? You'd think, but not one of them on the entire planet has despite Lionhead clearly outlining how co-op works.

I dare say if one journalist covering this title had any integrity they'd respond with something along the lines of "We don't feel we can implement another players character directly that would do the game justice. We of course have plans to feature your friends heroes somehow in future iterations but as things are we're unable to implement it in a successful way given the way which alignments and influence effect the characters and worlds. Instead we've implemented co-op that both allows players to play together and grow in other players worlds without disrupting the design of the game.

Wow, glad I stopped buy and read this thread. Was going to go out this afternoon and pick this up but now after reading these co op impressions. Guess I'm renting this.

What an awesome game. Can't wait to pick it up again tonight.

The complainers in this thread are funny, the orb system is incredible and as a single-player game this is shaping up to be an amazing experience. The idea of 'henchman' has been spelled out from the start. I never once thought I could take my fully decked out hero into my buddies game. It's his world, not mine vis versa.

I would classify this as a 'mistake'. It really is an amazing game, co-op or not. Do any of you people bother with single-player games anymore? Sheesh...
