Official Fable II Thread

I am enjoing this game, but I have'nt played such a buggy game since KOTOR: Sith Lords. The rather unpleasent graphic glich I have (you can see it here - View My Video ) is unbearable but most are tolerable. I've yet to get a game breaking bug.
I do have problems with the game.
The camera is poor and your characters movement is floaty and unresponsive.
Aiming and firing with Y feels wrong when there's the Left bumper used for free looking. Why not use that?
Being followed around by adoring villagers makes me want to go on a killing spree as they get in the way and never shut up (and there is some serious repetition in the game).
The environments look beautiful but most of the characters look like they've got typhoid, dysentry and leprosy.
And magic seems ineffectual until it's a high level. One shot with a decent rifle is often better than three blasts with a level 3 fire spell.
In some ways the game is too much like Fable. I wonder how much of the original game was re-used and regurgitated for Fable II as it has many of the same flaws.
Still, it is a good game. now if only that graphic problem could be sorted.

Judging by that shitty video, it looks like your 360 is going to RROD soon.

I can't believe that's the only way to get a top hat. Through out the whole game I kept my eyes peeled for a top hat that you could purchase, but no dice. I don't want a wizard's hat, I want a top hat!

So what's the deal with the
statue of the knight on the pig that's been just inside the entrance to Bowerstone Market ever since I returned from the Spire?
:lol

Also is there a limit on how many kids you can have? I figured it would limit you to just one but I've had 3 so far, though one of them is glitched.

With these points I'm 100% with you. I was also having a stuttering problem, the frame rate was taking a nove dive every half minute last night. I don't understand the need to get married, have kids, etc. I don't want to play the sims. I hit my D pad over and over to impress some dude with a gift last night, in the end the whole town loved me and followed me around. WTF? I can fart and dance for 3 minutes and suddenly everyone wants my man meat, even the guys?

And yes it's almost too much like Fable 1, I'm having Fable 1 flash backs while I play. It's like the Molyeux (sp?)just wanted a do over and decided to change the story, but not much else (ok, the world is lalrger?).

The "job" mini games are also painful. I enjoy running around killing stuff, but it seems like it's only 40% of the game.

Well, if that's the case then it'll be Fable II doing the damage. All my other 10 games are perfect. We shall see. I'm going to play it non-stop for hours and hours and hope it kills my 360 as it's still in warranty. And this on a Nov 07 Elite whilst my Oct 06 Premium still lives. Somethings wrong with that..

Just to say, it's not easy being evil in Fable II, at least it is easy but it seems counter intuitive. But I guess that's part of the game.

It would've been better if you could lock on to one NPC and impress them then standing there and doing it to the crowd (with the exception of showing off Trophies and using Magic to create fear). That way you can pick who to impress and not worry about being followed about by a horde of red hearts.
As for the family/kids. It'd make sense if they grew up and fought with you (like a henchman). But apart from the odd gift they're kinda a nuisance.

Oh and the other main bug bear is the incredible slowness of the menu. That is exactly like the old Fable. I really do think that this is simply Fable I with flashy clothes. Not too bad really, just not that much of an improvement.

Same. Drunken whore.

Edit: Being morally grey is great. I'm still slightly on the good side but can't help but have extra-marital sex. I just sort of, like, trip, and then, y'know...

Then play something else and not Fable.

First off, it's a sequel so of course it's going to feel somewhat like the first game. But even then, the world is not only larger, it's more open and there are more hidden things to find. The combat is deeper and more varied, the sim aspects are improved immensely, your (moral) choices hold more weight, cutscenes are done differently, there's multiplayer stuff... and I could go on and into specifics about how many positive changes Fable 2 has compared to the first game. I liked the first Fable but saying Fable 2 is basically the same is so, so wrong.

I enjoy running around killing stuff, but it seems like it's only 40% of the game.
Congratulations on completely missing the point of this game. I'm sure there's an action game out there for you somewhere.

I agree on the floaty movement, it feels like they increased the movement speed (probably just to make moving round the world easier) but the animation doesn't quite match up. Don't agree about it being unresponsive though, especially where it matters in the combat I think the controls work great.

No one is forcing you to make money through the jobs, tedious work should be tedious no?

There are a lot of things like that in the game, doing the right thing (like honestly working for your money) has consequences to your experience, not just to your character. Just like decisions you make in the story (can) affect your experience negatively.

In answer to the 'too similar to Fable' complaint I'd refer you to the Develop interview Peter did

http://www.developmag.com/interviews/296/Molyneuxs-Reflections-on-Fable-2

which explains why it feels so similar, I think if you went back and played the original again you'd notice the improvements a lot more.

You need the 'come back to my place' expression which you can buy in Bowerstone book store.

Man there should be a 'how does i sex?' tutorial in the OP :lol

Beaten, but you need to have the 'come back to my place' expression, you can buy it in the bowerstone book store.

I'm eating celery for all that's worth, but it doesn't make me any thinner. I'm huge right now.
Eh? Does the +5 Thin or -5 Fat or whatever show up above your character's head when you eat it?

Wait, Fable 2 isn't an action RPG, it's a sim game? Wow, bad marketing.

It does make you thinner, but celery is -5 fatness and pies & meat are normally +10 so it takes a lot of celery. I think there's a gauge in the menus you can keep an eye on.

I completed the main quest and finished 90% of the sidequests and I never got married or had kids. I'm not interested in any of the Sims type elements, but at no point does the game force you to do any of that. I avoided all of it and still had about 20+ hours of play time and found it to be immensely enjoyable overall.

Keep doing various expressions they like until they start coming on to you (you'll hear them say something suggestive) and then give a thumbs up expression. After that face the bed and push A.

Nice try Peter. Play Fable more than once to get the 3 different achievements

Well I just got all 3 (Egomaniac, Family, and Sacrifice) on one play through :lol
Yea, I got 1000/1000 with one character as well.

Once my friend gives me my dolls back, I will pass out them out to someone on Gaf who can continue the chain.

DeadGzuz said:

It's both. And the game can be pretty much 90% combat if you want it to be. No one's forcing the jobs and sim elements on you, it's optional content you can ignore and it's silly to complain about it.

Beat it last night and over all it was amazing.

I was addicted to the story / gameplay from the moment I started and all the way till the end. Played for a little while after beating the main story line to finish my campaign to the 2.5 Million real estate mark and finish up some of the quests that only unlock when you beat it.

Great game.

I went through being completely Good and Pure, so I'll probably go through again (at least play a little) as Evil and get my revenge on all the groupies....

"My friends keep asking me why there's not a ring on my finger."

"I see it, I LIKE IT"

"Oh.... watcha going to do now?!"

"Got something new for us?!"

GET THE HELL OUT OF MY WAY!

They really need a "Please Move Expressions". So many times I wanted to just start chopping off heads so I could get out of a building.

If they skip another couple hundred years forward for Fable 3 we could very well have paparazzi villagers.

Don't forget to give your wife a nice thumbs up! Oh, can you get your wife pregnant if you already have a baby with her? I never have protected sex with my wife, I save my condoms for the easy girls around town.

It's a little odd that there are few (if any) women characters here. Who am I to complain?

I have 3 kids so far, but I don't think you can get your wife pregnant again until the first kid grows up past the baby stage.

I would like to be a link on that chain.

Can someone share the dolls with me? I'd really like to get that achievement.

(I'll give them right back to you after or pass them on to someone else.)

You going to be trailing me on quests again? :D

But I haven't been able to play for a couple days so you are probably ahead of me now!

Some of the Demon Doors have amazing locations hidden behind them.

spoilers for if you haven't done the doors:
the idyllic house that in one flash changes into a decrepit mansion, Terry Cotter's army where he's lying dead in his bedroom surrounded by statues of knights, the black & white village where you can see character models from the first game inside the windows...

The artistic design in this game is mindblowing. I'd say it almost ranks up there with my all time favourite game Majora's Mask when it comes to atmosphere. I loved the way Wraithmarsh looked as well, the Sleepy Hollow references were very tangible there and seeing
Oakvale destroyed in the marsh
was an impressive - if kinda depressing - experience.

Its your fault if you ruin the game, by just running through the main quests...As the game's strengths lie in its extracurriculars.

So uhhh, 8/8 perfect rounds on the Crucible. Took some reloading and practice to get that troll down since I'm a melee guy, the only way to hit his weak spots is with ranged weapons, and this troll's a lot tougher than the one before. Time Control helped a bundle. I haven't used spells much the whole game, but I have Push at 5 stars and Time at 4 stars just from potions and such.

Anyhoo, where my damn axe?

Don't tell me the game sets you up for failure and you're expected to do the Crucible again. I'd really rather not.

* * *

Also, on the shooting range: does what gun you have impact things at all, or for purposes of the minigame all weapons have the same range, reload time, etc? If not, crap, guess I need a lot more practice. If so, anyone got any recommendations? I've been using my crossbow and pistol and not having much luck. But again, been melee-ing this whole time, using a blunderbuss when people block and a rifle to snipe gargoyles and the occasional dude on a ledge.

You know what scene was the best. When you
buy the
Brightwood Tower
for 250.000, and you have to sleep in that bed. The scene where you fight the banshee, with the big moon, the field, omg I was completely wowed.

I used a blunderbuss at the shooting range once and it was a disaster. So yeah, your equipped weapon affects your performance, I don't think skill points do tho.
I'm not sure what kind of advice to give other than aim for the head, and maybe wait until after you've finished the spire (if you havent done that yet) because I find it gets a bit easier after that.

Yeah that was a brilliant scene as well.
That happy chesty fellow was a cool contrast to the dreary setting, and being a kid with weapons on her back that were as big as her was badass.
The game is filled with moments of greatness like that.

Well, if the gun you're using matters, Speed improves reload time.

Also, I randomly seem to lose my zoomed in status and go back to just standing holding a pistol and that's rather frustrating. I'm not sure why that is. Even while reloading, while holding Y, it should stay zoomed in and aimed where I was aimed before.

Zeliard said:
So, you ended up snagging Fable 2, JayDubya? I remember you having some reservations. What convinced you?

My main reservations regarded co-op.

Having played co-op, and it's fine, and my wife enjoys playing together, no problem. Camera sucks, but we knew that going in.

My other reservation involved the first Fable being a letdown with an anticlimactic ending and very little content.

I'm pretty satisfied so far, but I'm expecting I'm much closer to the end than I want to be and there may not be many more towns / zones left. I'm not sure why that is.

What I really wanted in the first fable was the big dragon fight that I recall being hyped up early on. They moved it to TLC and just made Jack turn into the dragon, apparently, never played. I was pretty grumpy about that purchase, so I'm surprised I got this one.

Actually, I guess the real reason is that my wife really wanted it. But as it always is with her games, I invariably get farther than her.

It's partially because our daughter latches on to her more strongly; with me, we can sit together and she'll watch and giggle when Sparrow makes with the Sock Puppets. With Mama, she wants constant personal attention.

* * *

Anyway, anyone know about that axe? The Cleaver or whatever? 8/8 perfect rounds, no axe. Me am make sad face. Don't want the game to save before I go grab it wherever the heck it's supposed to be.

Yeah that is very frustrating. Especially when you get in a rhythm and are having a good round.

I love the endgaming of this game SO MUCH ! A lot of things to do, to discover and to enjoy, the world is just full of secrets and mysteries and this is really a pleasure. Can't wait for a DLC addon thought.

The game deserved a better last boss

As far as I'm concerned Zelda is dead and now forever replaced by Fable.
They aren't really the same. Zelda is still all about the dungeons and Fable 2 seems to have an emphasis on leveling up, character customization, and exploration of the world and the game's boundaries.

That said there is a ton of things Zelda should take away from the Fable franchise, because exploring the world in Fable 2 is a great deal of fun compared to the wasteland environments of Twilight Princess.

Yeah, I'd appreciate it as well and will gladly pass 'em on... 3 links in the chain so far :lol Gamertag: Cahill

Never had this answered before but in the menu when you go to your augments, after selecting one it brings up three choices. The last choice being accessories. Im I blind or are there accessories in this game I know nothing about?

What Twilight Princess has flaws? I'd never have known that given the 8.8 debacle.:D
