Official Final Fantasy XII (JPN) Thread (read RULES in the first post)

Question about some mob hunts:

1. On the one with the giant snake that's A rank. It said it's in the west desert around the entrance to the caves and that you'll just need to search carefully for it. I've gone around that entire sub-area inch for inch including the first sub-area inside the caves and I haven't found it.

2. On the one A rank that's in the waterway linked to downtown where you need an all-female party and it's in the "south part"...how the heck do you even get back down to the south? From the entrance in downtown I just come to a bunch of dead ends and can't get south. It seems like I need some water key or something to drain the water.

3. Some of the people aren't there. I took the A rank Chocobo one where the person was supposed to be in the save area before the religious temple and he's not there (I talk to everyone and there is no mob), There's another A rank where the person was supposed to be at the West Gate in the first city and he's not there either. Do I just need to clear some other ones before these ones show up?

I currently have 16 of 23 mobs done, and I'd like to try to do the other 7 (5 A-rank, 1 S-rank, 1 H-rank) before moving on with the story (at the next "dungeon" type place after phon coast). 63 hours right now with all characters ~lvl.40.

It helps to read their names you know. Those are both moogles. One is the mogxi in the West gate and the other is the Chocobo rauncher at the entrance. RPG Overlord am FAIL! :P

Funny that it is almost all black bars here.

It's at the brightest spot in the area from the entrance from west Dalmasca desert, I'd also puzzled before but I read someone mentioned you need to wander around (just in that region) for a few minutes and check there again, I followed and it is there. It seems to be some NPC mentioned about the behaviour of it somewhere.

You need to finish the quest by the Moogle at Western gate outside of the airship terminal (that teleport you between sections in Dalmasca) and get a water gate key. It is indeed rather funny when you change all members to female there it suddenly appears.

Don't know yet, not going for it yet.

I completed
18 out of 40 (~6 H, ~3-4 S, didn't count clearly)
in my list at the moment, there are more I am sure.

Ok on the Mob:
white chocobo trickster
how the hell do you hit him when he gets down to ~15% all and becomes resist to physical damage and skills and absorbs all magic? He's not even doing enough damage to threaten me much so I'm just sitting here going one by one through every spell and skill in my list and nothing is working. WTF :( I even tried using potions on him :

*edit: wtf, eventually I just started doing damage on him again.....right....^^;

Can you give me some more details on where you found the snake? I've been running around the area that leads to the caves for more than 30 mins now and I still can't find it :(

People said wandering around for 5 minutes and it will appear around the location that I show. BTW, I am using HP x 2 accessory as you can see.

Next mob and sidequest question:

The blood bat in Baruhaim underground. I need to find a way in since the exit collapsed. The shiek near the exit says there's another entrance (which I think I've found before) but you need a key and his boss has it. Where is his boss and how do I get the key so I can go and do the mob?

Also for a sidequest I'm looking for the cactus kid for the north shore east dalmasca desert boat sidequest. I see a few cactuses walking around the south shore but killing them doesn't seem to do anything. What am I supposed to do?

22 mobs down. :)

You will need to complete the cactus with a flower quest, then talk to the responsible person again and learnt that the flower is for use as medicine with his wife at East Dalmasca camp, follow that and you will eventually get a key into the underground again opposite to the camp with some funny events.

And BTW, the responsible person for that chocobo quest in Bur-Omisace is Gadi the rent-a-Chocobo moogle.

Ummm...I accidently sold that flower like 5 hours into the game after I did the quest. I thought it was just another item you get to sell...does that mean I'm screwed and I'll never be able to finish the mobs or get all the summons? :(

You can't sell it. It's a key item. :-)

Oh and I got a my PSU! Woo hoo! Back! :D

Yeah saw this a few days ago.... ugh! :/

Okay, this thread is filled with bakayarous lately. I haven't been getting any sleep myself, so I know the feeling. :lol

Regarding the flower quest:
look under key items and you'll see "Saboteur's Flower" and then check your Mob List for the Saboteur you beat and look at the last entry. It clearly hints you what to do next.

I'm disappointed in the lack of reading comprehension lately! :P

A few notes about the mob hunts mentioned above...

You do not need the Waterway Key to reach the slime mob in the waterways (the one who shows up for an all female party). The path to his area is actually open by default, just exit directly west from the room with the Save crystal and you can make your way to the south area where both White Mousse and the female-only slime are.

Also of note, you can have a male Guest character and he still shows up so long as YOUR party is all female.

Trickster (the White Chocobo) only shows up after you clear the zone, exit and re-enter a few times in my experience. After clearing the zone once, I found a single elemental floating around alone. Killed it, re-enter zone, another elemental. Repeat, and then your "partner" tells you Trickster is in the area. As for his move where he becomes invincible (uses it when he reaches critical) I just had to wait it out, which sucked because of Choco-Meteor. Died the first attempt, next try he showed up after I cleared the zone once, but had to fight him alongside the Elemental which was not fun.

And now a question of my own, regarding the first "S" rank mob hunt:
So, where is Robby anyway? I have been all over Nableus (or whatever the English name is) and have not seen him. The only zone I can't access is in the Northwest...next to the save point is what appears to be a wooden pier pointing towards it, so I assume a floating ferry of sorts will take me later. Anyone done this yet? It's the last one incomplete in my log right now, 25/26 done. :)

Yeah, I messed that up with a

My party is also like that at that moment (
a male guest is there

Yeah I caught it a day or 2 ago as well since the publisher's website updated with the new release. That's a heck of delay though, has me considering purchasing the remaining 6 tracks from the "Best Of" album. :(

How do you get the key to get underground and fight the blood bat? I did the cactus subquest, found the thing at the beach near the south camp, and now the lady wants me to bring some medicine called "neburarin" from the north camp but I dont' see anything up there.......I'm stuck :(

Also since you're 25/26, how was the H-rank quest? duckroll was saying H is tougher than S? I'm 23/26 now and after I finish this Bat one I'm wondering if I should just get back to the story or attempt those two. My party is too low level to get around Nableus so yeah...

no luck. I've checked every box in the area 20+ times and It won't let me check anything. Am I even in the right place? I'm checking the north east dalmasca camp where the cactuar family was holding the man hostage.

Not there.
You should check the man that give you the mob hunt at the camp in East Dalmasca desert.

Hahahahaha! I just completed that entire sidequest. Man if this was Oblivion I would have killed that guy's wife and stacked her corpse. :lol

I'm NO ONE's medicine bitch, NO ONE! :(

No, no. Just the one that you guys are talking about. I'm not that far yet. Check back with me again next week to see if I'm still sane. :D

I hope to complete the story mode by this weekend, and all of next week will be dedicated to the optional stuff. Since you're the expert in this field, we'll be relying on you maskrider! ^_^

Not an expert, just a hard worker(player).

I don't know if I can stay sane if I continue to play it this way. Lack of sleep will probably kill me, need to finish it all faster and get back on my work. I don't like RPG so much because of that.

Oh, BTW,
don't know if there will be anything after completing the hunter catalog yet
.

The H-rank...
...was not fun, and I used a record number of Phoenix Downs. I was actually not doing too bad until the mob used a move that "multiplied its level" or something to that effect. Suddenly it was doing thousands of damage per strike. If the S rank is harder than that...<shudder>

On and Bebpo, about the quest you're stuck on...
You need to go the camp just a couple zones outside Rabanastre and talk to the man who gave you the Flower Cactus mob hunt way back in the beginning of the game. Talk to him, he'll say to check the crates nearby for the medicine (and it is indeed sitting atop them in plain view).

Once you are all done collecting things for the woman, take the boat to the northern beach encampment, you'll see they're in trouble. Apparently the cacti are upset because the Flower Cactus you killed way back when never returned to their tribe (because he was beaten to a pulp by you). Back to the south camp, talk to the woman, she exclaims that the missing cactus must be the one you killed...but she threw away the flower you gave her at the start of all this madness. Go behind her house, check the flower on the ground there. Flower Cactus is revived! Take him to the north beach and reunite him with his siblings.

NOW...the woman back on the south shore should ask for flowers from the mountain north of the northern shore camp. There are 5-6 trees scattered throughout the zone, I only collected leaves from 4 of them and it was enough. So head up there and collect some, bring them to her, and zone out of the camp. Back in, talk to her one more time for completeness sake, then check behind her house again. If you have done alllllll of the collecting she's asked of you so far, there should be a lone Bangaa walking around behind her hut. He will give you the key you need to get back into Barheim.

Apologies if you have already done most of this, or if I forgot a step...it's late. ><

I think this has probably been asked before, but are there any other substantial sidequests besides the 'mob hunts'?

I was hoping for the clan missions to be a little more varied.

Thanks maskrider&Mistwalker. I was reaaaaally dumb (as expected at 8am) and completely forgot there was a third camp in the east dalmasca besides the north/south one ^^;

H-rank sounds bad. I think I'll get back to the story first.

Yes, there's all the usual help people out, find secret areas, fight hidden bosses, get cool item quests as well. Personally I think FFXII has more sidequests than any FF ever and is also the longest FF because of that.

Zilch said:

As Bebpo already said, yes. As the game opens up more and more you'll find some that some "problems" that exist in the world that were set up way earlier in the game start to present solutions in the form of sidequests. There are also sidequests which you initiate on your own from finding an item or going somewhere. Of course there are the optional bosses, optional summons and various optional weapon/equipment hunts and so on littered all over the world too.

I was hoping for the clan missions to be a little more varied.

The clan mission are actually pretty varied. The mobs aren't repeats or simply skin changes, they're usually based on a monster type but unique in ways that are pretty cool. There's also always a story behind the mob hunt. People don't just put up bounties for nothing, so the story behind why they want the mob hunted are cool too. In fact most of the mobs also have additional post-hunt stuff for you to do after defeating it to complete that little ministory on the mob hunt. Also especially later, to even get the mob to show up to get to where it is, you might have to solve a sort of puzzle too and it might lead you to new areas you haven't been to previously. The game is really deep and vast. :D

Okay, for those of you who thought Mistknacks could be abused by swapping your -whole- party out...

The only requirement is to have a profoundly underleveled character. Mine is Panelo.

chain 1: Basch triggers, Vaan helps, Ashe does nothing so I have MP to heal with
2: swap Ashe for Balfrear, chain all 3
2: swap Balfrear for Fran, chain all 3
4: swap Fran for Panelo, chain all 3
5 to infinity: ether on Panelo, chain all 3 again since she has less than 50 base MP
Killing one: Trigger with Ashe to save the last ether, since she won't NEED to heal.

The thing I've come to realize about Mistknacks is this though: They're very much desperation moves in the sense that unless you feel that you suddenly MUST deal 30k of damage or lose the battle, you're better off not using it. Think of it this way, to pull off a 30k Mistknack, you will generally need to do a 10-hit combot at least, not a simple 3 hit one. In the time it takes to watch 10 Mistknack animations, PLUS the effort it takes to gamble your luck at the R2 shuffling to keep the combo going, if you have a decent party at the point when you even NEED to deal that much damage, you would be doing more than 3000 damage a turn (1000-1200 per character per turn) at about maybe 5 seconds per turn or even faster depending on your battle speed. Sometimes the characters will often even do more combos in one turn doubling or tripling the damage (or more depending on the weapon). So in the time it takes to watch 10 Mistknack animations, AND watch the final "combination" animation, you would probably have done in excess of the damage the Mistknack would have done anyway. :D

The only times lately that I've been using Mistknacks is to basically remove all the MP of my fighters who don't need it anyway to quickly inflict the heavy remaining damage that would kill off an enemy before he healed or tried some awful deperation-level skill. So in that sense, strategy still pays off way more in the game than trying some retarded "break the game" move which, obviously as the game gets further and further in, is less "break the game" and more "waste your MP". The real reason everyone should get Mistknacks asap for their mage characters is
the double MP boost the 2nd one gives you and the triple MP boost the last one gives you.
^_^

I have to ask... I've been holding this question in until you guys got pretty far into the game to answer it... but basically, admittedly, one of my favorite things about the FF games is the emotion. I can pick out moments in FF4-10 that have damn near brought tears to my eyes, and I'm just wondering if FF12 is any different in this department. What can I say? I love me a good, emotional epic. :D

That said, they -do- have the added bonus of eliminating the enemy's turns. ;P

(Still, I'm using them mainly for that -other- added bonus you mention; the only things I really actually fire them off for are a) when I'm in over my head; and b) when a boss comes with underlings and I want to clear them out quick.)

This game is looong and I'm starting to get burnt out on it :\ Like if you just do the story I guess it flows pretty well, but the sidestuff is always in your face and yelling "hey I'm fun!" "Hey explore my hidden area!" and so the main story moves at a snails pace as you're spending 10 hours between cutscenes doing sidequests and exploring new areas.

I thought I was heading near the end at around 75 hours...but no, I think I still have another 1/4th or more of main story left ^^;

I think I just need to catch up on sleep tonight and maybe I'll be less burnt out and more in the mood to play tomorrow. The game is still OMG BEST GAME EVER totally awesome but its just getting a bit overwhelming in scope at this point :\
