Official Final Fantasy XII (JPN) Thread (read RULES in the first post)

The people who got it ultra early did. I have a feeling Monk read 2chan spoilers.

I've had it since last wednesday night : )

I told other GAFers I would make a new thread for impressions with spoilers but nobody seems to want it.

I have a little over 68 hours on it which is still impressive. I'm sure if I did more that would be make the number go up. On top of that, this is a Matsuno game. I took my time : ). His understanding of literature is impressive to say the least. The dialogue in Vagrant Story is still unbeaten.

I can tell you there is a nice surprise after the first act. It deals with Vaan and Basch.
No one has even mentioned or talked about that anywhere yet!

I'm only going to say two things for now:

1. The graphics in this game are better than anything I've ever seen in my life. The visuals completely destroy every X360 game I own and show that tech doesn't make the world go round. I wonder how many years will pass until a game finally appears next-gen that tops these visuals.

2. Best game ever...and I'm not even slightly joking. Me and duckroll have had faith the entire time that FFXII would indeed be the greatest game ever made, we never wavered, and in the end we were right.

BB in a few days.

See guys, what did I say? Scientifically impossible for Matsuno to make a bad game.

The Square Enix president stated that it would hit the US in Summer.

Ugh, thanx. why the fuck can't they localize a game this big as they go through development?? summer could mean 3-6 months :( :( :(

And now I'm compelled to play the gimped FFXII (English) demo over and over just to taste the Matsuno goodness from across the ocean!

Stop it with the ending talk. The rule is right there in the fucking first post. Some people would rather not fucking know how it is compared to FFT's, or anything about it.

some Qs

How many discs? is potion really gross? does it work with hdloader?

1 disc.
The potion is, mmmm interesting. I've got 4 of the 6 premiums. I bought one of the regulars to try it. let's just say i'm not going to buy any more.

Don't know on the hldloader.

Has anyone been to the
floating island/skycity of Bhujerba
yet?
If yes, is it anywhere near as big as Rabanastre?
Did it have awesome music as you would expect of such an area in an RPG? (Chrono Trigger FTW)
Also, how much do you get to explore of
Archades, the skyscraper city
?

I hope some of ya idiots would believe I added a bit of hype-sauce into my rant. But yes my previous statement is true. It's that freaking good. GG

uhh...

Matlock just spoiled the game for me I think.
I don't know if it was an ending spoiler or what, but it has to do with the final boss.
All I can say is that I hope it's not that big of a deal overall. And if someone knows what I'm talking about, please let me know if it isn't.

God, too much hype man :lol

I'll admit it's helluva good game so far, but don't overshoot it people!

I've only clocked 6 hours into the game, and haven't progressed through the main story much. I finally formed a party, and I'm mainly just going through side quests. To add to my previous impressions:

* I should say this is like playing a MMORPG but it's a single-player experience. The NPCs emulate the experience of one. You got a "clan" you can join and the clan leader gives you some items like potion and stuff. They will probably give you side quests later on, from what I gathered.

* One of the side quest is hunting down "mob monsters". They are unique monsters that you normally don't encounter. You sign a contract with the NPC who requested the monster hunt and tell you where they are generally located. Look for the monster, battle, win and come back to the NPC to earn rewards. Your "clan" rank would also go up fighting these monsters. So far I went through 3 of them, the most recent probably a bit tough since I didn't have much skills/spells acquired.

* Some NPCs have names, and others are general description of the person. They put some care into these descriptions, its pretty fun just walking around to see what this guy is...just from a simple phrase. Some examples are, "The Traveller who has not travelled", "A kind stranger", "He who knows nothing"...

* Correction: its not the color of the health gauge that determines whether you are capable of defeating the monster. You need the "Library" ability to see enemy's HP, weakness, and also determines if you are capable of fighting the enemy. The color code for that is - green (easily defeatable), yellow (equal), red (cannot defeat).

* Load times are not too long, but noticeable. You wonder why they didn't put an icon or a "Now Loading" text. **A developer's rant: This violates Sony's TRC! (If this was an American game, you can bet your ass Sony will mark it as Rank A)**

* And for you music fans...FFXII Soundtrack EP (5 selected tracks) from iTunes. Someone back it up cuz I dont think it will last long.

Actually, red health gauge on screen means they are aggressive. So those will attack if you get too close, green means they won't attack you unless you attack them.

Played for almost five hours, and I am completely enthralled with the gameplay. So much to do. At this point though, I'm just leveling up, as I don't know exactly what to do.

I killed the tomatoe monster, talked to the Mog in the guild I guess, went underground and spoke to an old guy, and then I found Penelo outside the city. I've done a fair bit of exploring now, and I don't really know what's next.

Anybody know what I'm missing? :lol

Looks like mine is gonna arrive on Friday. NCS apparently got their Japanese and Asian copies today, and are sending them both out today (instead of Asian today and JP tomorrow). I doubt it, but if I do get that itunes thing, can I just give that to someone who uses them to get the other songs?

That'd be excellent if possible. Troidal provided the first 5 tracks so it'd be nice to hear the other 6. :)

BTW are there any worthwhile goodies at this site?

I am exactly where you are! Head south of that small town you met Penelo. You have to look for a kid.

okay ive officially bought into the hype, riding my little charinko in the cold winter air 4km to wondergoo after school.

Whoa. The members section on the official site has put up a few wallpapers and a screensaver that's an "Airship Gallery" that looks awesome.

Is there anyway to rip or capture the images from the screensaver?

Okay, I have all the images in nice viewable form here. :D

Sweet! Thanks for the help. Hopefully I can repay you later in the game. :)

i thought Bahamut was also a airship? Or is Alexander a mixed translation of Bahamut cuz that airship looks like the bahamut type
... THANKs lots for the pics!!!! :)

Oh man I want this game :( gamefaqs has US release down as Q4 2006. I wish I knew more than basic Japanese.

btw how much memory does this sucker take up? I have a feeling I;m gonna give into the hype and end up owning the soundtrack, memory card and other crap =_=

I think Bahamut's a dungeon. In one of the scans Alcid called it the "Aerial Fortress Bahamut"....

ahh, that would be very cool. it better be one bad ass dungeon though.

also does this mean that you can't summon any of these creatures anymore? And i think i remember reading on the Countdown thread that someone thought mabye each person will have 1 summon.... I do like the idea of the summons are now airships and a dungeon... but only 1 summon? and to be honest, i didnt like that one in the demo much.... hmmm w/e, summons dont make the game anyway.(<- :) fanboy talk i cant resist) Anyways i got myself a copy coming this weekend. cant wait. :D

Yeah okay this is a spoiler REQUEST for anyone who knows for CERTAIN how many summons there are in the game. Spoiler marked please, but an answer would be nice. Only if you know for CERTAIN btw. I don't want misinformation and rumors factoring into this. If you're not sure, don't pretend to be sure. :D

Yeah 1UP are saying the release date is now Thanksgiving for US.
Well that is a kick in the pants.

Wow a November release I wonder what else could be coming out at that time and why they would do that....

Also why are the 1up videos in widescreen? Or maybe it is the paste the black bars over the fullscreen game type of widescreen.

and FFTA wasn't a bad game? I must have missed the memo about that disappointment :(

Glad to hear such good things about FF12, but I'm overdosing on salt until the "new" wears off and the hype dies down :)

FF games are an event, it's impossible not to want to check the games out.

(I was there like a guppy fish , gauking with mouth open as i handed over my money in a trance)

Matsuno didn't make FFTA!!

duckroll said:
Did you click? :P

Well, no.. i just did now and it says he was listed as Producer.. which would still make him (partially)responsible, imho :lol

Anyway, looking forward to more FF XII impressions :)

Looks like you've already heard the truth, but in any event there's no need to worry about the salt. FFXII is confirmed the best FF ever, and everyone should simply open their arms with love and accept the future. Matsuno + Sakimoto + No random battles + incredible production values + Panelo sex = scientific formula for awesome.
