Official Final Fantasy XII (JPN) Thread (read RULES in the first post)

I'm officially invoking Act 04 of the Matsuno Militant Act (Section 12) on DeadlyMonk.

04. No ending discussion whatsoever. None. If you beat it, that's great. Congrats, but not in this thread please. If you downloaded the ending, you know what NOT to do.

Judge Masters, take him away! :D

Looks like you've already heard the truth, but in any event there's no need to worry about the salt. FFXII is confirmed the best FF ever, and everyone should simply open their arms with love and accept the future. Matsuno + Sakimoto + No random battles + incredible production values + Panelo sex = scientific formula for awesome.

You make a convincing argument, Amir0x.

especially the lack of random battles and the Panelo sex, though production values certainly don't hurt the game's case with me :D

Objectively, FFTA isn't a bad game. It was the Matsuno connection that doomed it really, because it wasn't really a Matsuno game. Expectations versus Results. Pity. :D

well, after hearing the FFT gushing, I mistakenly thought that FFTA would be as good.. I guess the mistake was mine :lol

1. The graphics in this game are better than anything I've ever seen in my life. The visuals completely destroy every X360 game I own and show that tech doesn't make the world go round. I wonder how many years will pass until a game finally appears next-gen that tops these visuals.
:lol What are you like?

There are a couple of neat techniques used to soften the pain of PS2 graphics. The first is awesome textures. The textures on the face have really nice shadows that give you the impression the faces are higher poly than they really are. Second is the edge blurring. I wouldn't call it AA, but it makes things look a hell of a lot better than KH2 and FFX. Best looking PS2 game for sure, but best looking game ever is a hell of a stretch.

I think objectively FFTA is an atrocious game that is a disgusting insult to the Final Fantasy name.

But, I mean... yeah, I guess it's not that bad.

We cannot let you bear this burden alone. The mistake was with us all. At some point there was a nasty rumor the said it was a FFT -remake- on the GBA. That was the beginning of our loooooong road into disaster. :lol

Well, no.. i just did now and it says he was listed as Producer.. which would still make him (partially)responsible, imho :lol

Anyway, looking forward to more FF XII impressions :)

More like barely responsible in the case of FFTA. :)
I wouldn't count it against him. Matsuno is still flawless. ;)

edit: wow jesus I take my time to make a post and there's like 10+ new posts already!

edit 2: i'm getting FF12, just have to wait til after I beat Oblivion though :(

Ok, Gambit is officially the coolest thing ever.

Imagine this, programming your AI to automatically heal party members below a certain % of health in battle, that's not all, you can program it so it does it AFTER each encounter. No more switching to menu and selecting heal one by one, everyone automatically heals after battle!!! I'm having so much fun not having to issue the same exact command 500 times in a row when i'm lvl'ing.

Who ever thought of gambit is my Japanese hero. You really have to play a bit into the game and earn a couple more different types of gambits and gambit slots to really understand the magic of it. The beautiful thing is, you still have TOTAL control over everything during battle.

It's like that in Kingdom Hearts, but from the sound of things, it's a bit more in depth.

Yeah yeah yeah! :-D
I agree.

I usually turn gambit on for one character, and control the remaining two.
_____Balflare and Fran
just joined my party! :-D

Oh I remember this (wasn't on GAF yet though), Ntards were hyping it so much boasting how GBA could play PS1 games. :lol

But yeah, back to FFXII. ANOTHER MASTERPIECE FROM MATSUNO!! :D

That "rumor" came from Matsuno himself, although what he actually said was that he considered FFTA to be more of a remake than a whole new game because it still followed the SRPG formula, whereas if he ever made a true FFT2 he intended for it to be completely different from FFT or other SRPGs.

There is a world map (I think you meant Overworld).
You can travel around by teleport points like FFXI, and I'm sure there's other things too. Not forgetting our fine, feathered friends.

So it's actually 4 character parties? Someone should update wikipedia :)

Sorta. I mean it seems like the 4th person is always a guest so you can't controller them. But I mean you see their HP/MP, you heal them, and they fight the same enemies you fight, so it basically plays out like a 4 person party when you have a guest.

Will this game ever make it to Europe? Given the usual 2-year delays for PAL FF releases, isn't it more likely that it won't because everything will be focused on PS3 by then? Or will Squenix Europe's liking for money override that?

There was something in last week's Famitsu about the release dates where Square-Enix President, Yoichi Wada, was supposed of said that the timeline for international releases would be "Summer" for the US and "before the end of 2006" for Europe.

Either way it'll smack into PS3 hype, if the global November date is committed to. Unless there's a big promotion on running FF12 on the PS3 in high-res *drool*

Who knows...

You know Nintendo is going to use Zelda to sell the Revolution, so perhaps the same will happen here...only the game will be enhanced (hopefully).

Did the fact that the PS2 had been released at the time mean that FF9 didn't come out in Europe? Of course not, and of course FF12 will come to Europe (even FF11 came in the end, albeit on PC, and next month on 360, because SCEE didn't release the HDD).

Random battle video. No real spoilers. Also note the game isn't that easy; I was just going through an old area with lvl.1 type enemies at the time of capture :P

I have some videos in nicer quality but I think maskrider will take care of all the high quality awesome encodes. I'll just do the quick and dirty ones :P

I can host your videos too if you want ;)

damn, this game is pretty good so far! the battles are a lot more frantic and intense than previously, and the story is surprisingly down to earth. it really picked up for me after about 3/4 hrs.

Can you or maskrider tell me what's a good bitrate and codec to use for HQ game videos? My capture card is average quality and captures in MPEG2 files that are around 130megs for 2 min clips and I've just been using Xvid (deinterlace [blend fields] + resize [640x480] + crop) with around a 1500 bitrate which knocks them down to about 20megs. What would you guys recommend for higher quality?

For everyone

Here's a clip that instead of putting on youtube where they kill the quality, I'm just putting on yousendit. NOTE: IF YOU CAN UNDERSTAND SPOKEN JAPANESE DO NOT CLICK ON THIS BECAUSE IT IS VERY SPOILERISH. ONLY CLICK IF YOU DON'T KNOW A LICK OF JAPANESE. There aren't any visual spoilers and I thought it was a nicely directed scene and it was one of the few I could just capture as a test near a save I had. But yeah, the dialogue is VERY SPOILER...DO NOT LISTEN.

My own encoding method is to use avisynth (for tomsmocomp) and virtualdub. Blending the fields is horrible.
PM me if you want some help, avisynth is not as difficult as it sounds.
