I finished chapter 3 last night. Great stuff. The rolling system is nice because you can cancel any of your attacks out into another, quicker attack, or a quick block.

Framerate during the last boss fight of Chapter 3 was simply unacceptable though. I know that they're trying to create a mood and atmosphere, but the hundreds of guys on screen should have been faked in some instances. It's really ruining certain parts of the game that should be much more enjoyable.

Chapter 4 is a REAL treat :) My fav so far.

Went up against the first boss and got wrecked :(. I need to stop button mashing and actually figure out how to do the combos and more importantly the aerial combos since I still haven't done one yet.

That was short but sweet. Glad I borrowed it instead of buying it. It's awesome while it lasts but unlocking art (which is excellent) and getting a harder mode doesn't make me want to shell out 60 full. Cutscenes are the best at least graphically I've ever seen, and the bosses are Metal Gear quality, at least in the cutscenes.

Holy hell this game is amazing. It doesn't exactly grab me like God of War, but being so different I think that's actually a good thing.

My god the cannon ball part. Thousands of enemies on screen. Amazing

Hmmm I'm not quite sure what you mean.

Something about the counter-kill system seems really off. Being in the right stance and hitting triangle at the moment of impact just doesn't work most of the time. So far I've only been able to pull them off when a guy tried to hit me from behind as I was finishing a combo and still mashing triangle repeatedly.

Normal counters (the ones where you don't have to push triangle precisely) I can do fine though. Problem is you need to be able to pull of precision counters for certain boss fights, like
the second Fox fight, where you need to deflect his ranged attacks by countering them
.

Yeah, the frame rate annoys me. But I was really surprised how smooth the framerate was on the demo level. I wish it was like that the rest of the game.

Beat it yesterday, enjoyed it fully. Could've used a bit more polish to be honest but it didn't really ruin the overall quality and production value of the game.

Ending CG is godly.

This game kicks ass!

I cannot fucking get a perfect score on the first sniper mission (night attack I think).

Do you have to arrow everyone?

Playing stylishly feels rewarding. Keep chaining combos (100+ is my best so far), finding the next enemy to attack, launch in the air for more points, reversing a knockdown is cool. I agree though that the counter system is kinda iffy. The colored glow before an attack is like a second or more long and its hard to predict when the actual hit is. I havent been able to pull off counters with any consistency so far.

I was able to get perfect killing 19 out of 25(?). Try to score at least 2 hits on each enemy, preferably head shots. The first 10 or so should be easy. The rest on the right just concentrate on hitting them quickly. And try not to miss otherwise the points chain breaks.

Is it just me, or has SCEE perhaps undershipped HS for some reason? Maybe this explains the staggered EU launch also?

It's just I was checking the game website earlier, and they said they had only 10 left in stock then..and then when I went to pick up my copy this evening, I heard the assistants saying that there were only 2 copies left.

Ok so I just noticed in asda they sell this game for just £32 which I thought was a great deal. Then I notice how high the prices for some older games are like enchanted arms is £44 for example. Anyway can't wait to play it but haven't gotten to it yet.

Holy shit at that picture. It really makes me anxious to see what's all this game has to offer in the visual department. Or what Team Ico will have to offer, for that matter... o_O

Yeah CH 4 has my fav.

I was stoked to see those hangliding ninjas. I hadn't seen them in any of the previews.

REALLY BAD demo. I really like RPGs and that was bad enough to throw me off the "interested" bandwagon until it gets a lot cheaper.

If you think the level of geometry is comparable between R&C Future and BD, you're out of your mind.

My copy of HS still hasn't shipped yet. ARGH!!!!!

It did have a terrible demo. I hated it too. But the actual game is fantastic, especially the music. And not the stupid boss battle music, the actual, environment-based tracks. Some of them are just freakin' amazing. One was stuck in my head for a few days, and that rarely happens to me.

And I didn't say they use the same amount of geometry--I said they use (some of) the same tricks. Play the game, and you'll realize: Blue Dragon is one of the best-looking games of this generation. Some environments are a tad sparse, though.

Yea, a lot of the vistas reminded me of Ico. Really beautiful.

Are the motion controls completely busted for anyone else? Guiding arrows up and down barely seems to work at all. It's like using the Powerglove. Once I switched to analog things were alright.

Played till chapter 4 then took a break for some food. Game is actually a ton of fun and looks great. Doesn't seem like it's worth buying but it's definitely worth playing and beating. I don't really like Noriko though. Everyone in the game is over the top and seems to be having lots of fun hamming it up but Noriko's VA plays it seriously and comes off like some loud crotchety nag.

After touch with SIXAXIS works perfectly for me. Alot of fun with Kai.

Yeah it's actually quite interesting how after touch works. The sixaxis has to be held lightly for you to pull it off

Hmmm strange. Maybe I'm sitting too close to the tv or something. I'll have practice with it more when I start playing again.

It has nothing to do with distance.

Really, just use it with care. Subtle motions are all you need.

It's the same concept while using the analog sticks.

I switched off SIXAXIS control and started jamming on the left stick during the
catapults in the first/second chapter
. After that, I tried lightly touching the stick and it works much better.

I assume it's the same when using the SIXAXIS too.

the thing is to Aim your Crosshair right on your target or as close as possible, so when you're in the afterTouch cam you wont have to do alot of stiring. Just adjust when Arrow/Rocket gets close.

So the game has released now. Why isn't this a sticky?

Wouldn't that be nice?

But nah, hell The Blue Dragon thread was huge and never got stickied, so I guess its up to what the mods think is appropiate (makes perfect sense MP3 is still sticked...)

Works perfectly. You just have to understand that the arrows move partially based on physics.

cutscenes are still fmv on the final version? o real time?
From what's been answered earlier, longer cutscenes (there's few of these) that happen between major chapters are FMV, recorded from game engine footage. The rest that happen during the level etc. are realtime, are usually shorter, and there's more of them than FMV cutscenes.

Depends, some are recorded to minimise loading times, others are rendered in real time afaik. Some more pics (credits to tapout at txb):

My beef with the motion control is how you have to keep the controller perfectly level when you begin. I like to rest the controller in my lap, but because it's tilted upwards, my first arrow/cannonball/human-dart always goes flying into the atmosphere like a space shuttle. Then I have to sit uncomfortably on the edge of my chair to keep the controller level.

I've since switched to the analog sticks.

The music in the demo was fucking awesome, indeed. That I can definitely agree with. I'll pick up BD when it's cheaper, like I will for Lair.

My god, those screens are jaw-dropping. DAMMIT, I NEED MY COPY!!!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!
If there isn't any unlockable additional outfits, I will bet anybody a $100 that that will be the first DLC for this game.
