I did too. The "little gremlin that slits your neck while you sleep" line just cemented the deal.RobertM said:I fell in love with Kai.

-Rogue5- said:Sorry to revive this thread, but did anyone else get the feeling that the control scheme for Heavenly Sword could/should be used for all thirdperson/action games on the PSP? It's essentially single analog controls, ala God of War and MGS1 and 2, but no PSP game (other than Chains of Olympus) use them. What gives?

diddlyD said:i got a free promo copy of this game back around september, and im just now finally at chapter 5. haha.
anyway, i really enjoyed chapters 1 and 2, but after that the game seems to have taken a linear nose dive in quality. especially here in chapter 5, the part where you have to fight alongside shen, the framerate is like 10-15 fps, and in the third wave i think it's actually even dropping below 10. the controls hardly even work the framerate is so bad.
also i think i know why i've played this game so little. it's the 30-60 second load time (of the exact same assets that were just loaded) every time you die. i think i've mentioned it before, but holy shit is that annoying. subconsciously, every time i think "man i should play heavenly sword to try and finish it" i follow up with "the loading when you die makes me want to throw the disc out the window" so i boot up warhawk or something instead.
bumpin the thread to bitch. sorry. how much longer do i have to go before the end?
Doc Evils said:did you download the latest patch? I heard it fixes the loading.
ymmv said:No, it doesn't. I played the game to the end with the latest patch and I was pretty annoyed by the long loading times. After Uncharted with zero loading times, Heavenly Sword felt like a rather big step backwards.
Kittonwy said:Keep in mind Heavenly Sword was released before Uncharted, and Uncharted IS made by Naughty Dog. I had less problems with the load times than some of the gameplay designs (lack of exploration, lack of jump button).
diddlyD said:thats another thing, about the gameplay, there are all these combos and things, apparently, but it all seems so 'weak' compared to a game like god of war. in gow, i learned all the combos because of the obvious benefits, but in this game the controls seem too muddy to really tell what you're doing so i just end up tapping attack as fast as possible. also, the abuse of quick time events or whatever you wanna call them needs to die. not just in this game, although they seem extra annoying here.

Roll, block, use power stance. Learn to use them. I can't remember exactely how to beat him, havn't played the end in a long time.diddlyD said:how do you beat the last dude? im getting torn apart. the framerate is like 15 fps, i can't tell what the hell is going on... lol if you can't tell, im really fucking annoyed. there doesn't seem to be any strategy, he blocks everything even if he just attacked or is in the middle of an attack, but randomly lets me get a couple hits in here and there for unknown reasons. ugh.
*edit* is there an invincibility cheat code or something? this isn't fun at all. i just wanna see the over dramatic ending :|

icechai said:Is it really 15 fps for you? Because after a looong time of playing CS on the PC, I'm pretty sensitive to 10-60 fps ranges and Heavenly seems generally good with a few rare dips to 15, and a bunch of times around 2x. But it really didn't detract me from the game.
By the way I FINALLY beat this game!!!! (Had it since release but been taking my times on weekends with it, Warhawk is such a distraction). All I have to say is, if they learned Naughty Dog's streaming system, this game would be TWICE as good. Can you guys imagine the whole last chapter without loading and a slightly better framerate? Would be awesomeeee.
And if they can knock the 12 hours of loading screens down to 8 hours.nelsonroyale said:yep if they can get that up to scratch in the sequel it will be epic....
Struct09 said:Controlling Kai was very clunky at times, especially when enemies could get close to you. I liked her sniping sequences, but hated the scene where you're in close quarters with guys you have to shoot in the head. Also, the SIXAXIS controls got old after a while, especially when you had to toss hats.
SolidSnakex said:I really hope the next game stars her. She should be older by then and would be able to user better weapons than twing twang.
i played it a few weeks ago and have very similar impressions of it. i definitely think people should play it, but i obviously can't really recommend it as a purchase.UncleGuito said:I got the game from Gamefly a few days ago and just now beat it- It was much better than I was expecting.
It really wasn't much of a button masher- no more than God of War or Devil May Cry. My main gripe with the gameplay was the countering- for some reason, I could never counter speed attacks, especially on the Fox battle. Battles weren't as fun as those from, say, God of War, but I wouldn't say they were bad. I didn't like the Kai gameplay portions at all.
The art direction was pretty incredible, and nearly every environment was stunning. The FPS chugged a bit in some places, and tearing was also pretty evident at times. Heavenly Sword had some of the best faces and acting I've seen on a console game: Nariko looked really lifelike in most of the real time cutscenes and CGI. The voice acting was also really great, especially the work for Nariko and Bohan. Great soundtrack as well.
Oh yea, the final chapter was incredible. The final boss battle was one of the best I've played in some time, even though it was kinda frustrating.
I really wish there would have been more polish put into the game and that it would have been pushed back a bit further to allow for better FPS and small graphical issues.
McLovin said::lolI would miss Nariko too much. Maybe they could do something where Nariko's spirit is in the sword.. and she takes over Kai's body for parts of the game? Then again.. that might be kinda corny
Absolutely.Fady K said:This game had some of the best presented cutscenes in any action game.

dont play it expecting a story like MGS3. you will be disappointed. but the acting and presentation is near that of MGS3, very very dramatic. and yes, you WILL enjoy it.Shoho said:I really want a PS3 because of this game. the story isn't the best but the playing out of the scenes is the best period. best movies in a game.Shoho said:I really want a PS3 because of this game. Is the story really as wonderful as everyone says? Is it memorable like KOTOR and MGS3?
jett said:Sorry for teh bumpz, but I have to ask. Was an official soundtrack released? All I found was a meh-quality rip of just 9 tracks. The music is probably the best aspect of this game.
Shinblade said:pm me where you found those.... I've wanted the music for this for LONG time.
No sound track that I know of... which is a crying shame
