I just started playing this tonight. Got it in my buy 2 get 1 deal from Toys R Us. So far I am loving it, the presentation is awesome.

Just beat Heavenly Sword after three weeks of bouncing between it, Folklore, Tekken 5 DR Online, and Super Stardust HD.

Definatly one of the best action games around. Had a great finale and the road there was paved in the most beautiful vistas. Looking forward to Ninja Theory's next game. These guys proved to me that they've got what it takes to make quality games.

Great job guys!:D

Sorry to revive this thread, but did anyone else get the feeling that the control scheme for Heavenly Sword could/should be used for all thirdperson/action games on the PSP? It's essentially single analog controls, ala God of War and MGS1 and 2, but no PSP game (other than Chains of Olympus) use them. What gives?

Official threads are never too old to be bumped. Thinking about your idea though, that's an amazing idea. It does work so well in GoW.

Everyone else thinks the VA for flying fox is hilarious? When you first meet him. Oh god. :lol I couldn't stop laughing.

yeah, hes a mad bastard...hardly the sort of character and VA i'd expect in a game....Bohan's VA is the best Ive seen in a game...ever

I thought the VA was really good as a whole, in fact, I say it's the best I've seen lately. Especially when you meet the whole group of villians at first. It does help that the cutscenes, lip sync and animations are excellent as well.

You are feeeeeeeeeeeeeeewww of passion, fffeeewww of passion. :lol

i got a free promo copy of this game back around september, and im just now finally at chapter 5. haha.

anyway, i really enjoyed chapters 1 and 2, but after that the game seems to have taken a linear nose dive in quality. especially here in chapter 5, the part where you have to fight alongside shen, the framerate is like 10-15 fps, and in the third wave i think it's actually even dropping below 10. the controls hardly even work the framerate is so bad.

also i think i know why i've played this game so little. it's the 30-60 second load time (of the exact same assets that were just loaded) every time you die. i think i've mentioned it before, but holy shit is that annoying. subconsciously, every time i think "man i should play heavenly sword to try and finish it" i follow up with "the loading when you die makes me want to throw the disc out the window" so i boot up warhawk or something instead.

bumpin the thread to bitch. sorry. how much longer do i have to go before the end?

No, it doesn't. I played the game to the end with the latest patch and I was pretty annoyed by the long loading times. After Uncharted with zero loading times, Heavenly Sword felt like a rather big step backwards.

Keep in mind Heavenly Sword was released before Uncharted, and Uncharted IS made by Naughty Dog. I had less problems with the load times than some of the gameplay designs (lack of exploration, lack of jump button).

thats another thing, about the gameplay, there are all these combos and things, apparently, but it all seems so 'weak' compared to a game like god of war. in gow, i learned all the combos because of the obvious benefits, but in this game the controls seem too muddy to really tell what you're doing so i just end up tapping attack as fast as possible. also, the abuse of quick time events or whatever you wanna call them needs to die. not just in this game, although they seem extra annoying here.

I just have to ask. What is it loading? I mean if all the assets were there, and they were I just saw them a second ago, what does it need to load?

Makeh no sense. :/

Played it the other day and Roach's pets were tearing me apart on hell mode. Thank god I had a bazooka next to me.

Also I never really found a use for all the stuff lying on the floor before, but I found a massive hammer and threw it and it took about 3 of them out. I'm suprised they really didn't force you into more situations to use stuff lying on the floor like that. Picking up bodies and throwing them is fun. Wonder If I could manage an entire level by doing that :D

Loading will not be fun though :|

The problem with the combo system is that the moves aren't well-defined. They animate well enough but I think they missed the point in that each move should have its own very specific purpose other than just causing damage. A grab is a grab, a block is a block, a parry is a parry, a crumple move is a crumple move, a push-back move is a push-back move, if they get a chance to make another Heavenly Sword game that's something they seriously need to work on.

That's one of the things that bugged me. So many moves and the only differences between any of them were how they looked and whether or not they are a block breaker. Also, only ONE ranged stance move. Really???

I really enjoyed the combat system, particularly the uniqueness of the block and counter system.

how do you beat the last dude? im getting torn apart. the framerate is like 15 fps, i can't tell what the hell is going on... lol if you can't tell, im really fucking annoyed. there doesn't seem to be any strategy, he blocks everything even if he just attacked or is in the middle of an attack, but randomly lets me get a couple hits in here and there for unknown reasons. ugh.

*edit* is there an invincibility cheat code or something? this isn't fun at all. i just wanna see the over dramatic ending :|

Parry the projectiles back at him using stance according to the color of the projectiles.

Is it really 15 fps for you? Because after a looong time of playing CS on the PC, I'm pretty sensitive to 10-60 fps ranges and Heavenly seems generally good with a few rare dips to 15, and a bunch of times around 2x. But it really didn't detract me from the game.

By the way I FINALLY beat this game!!!! (Had it since release but been taking my times on weekends with it, Warhawk is such a distraction :p). All I have to say is, if they learned Naughty Dog's streaming system, this game would be TWICE as good. Can you guys imagine the whole last chapter without loading and a slightly better framerate? Would be awesomeeee.

yep if they can get that up to scratch in the sequel it will be epic....

If they could patch the engine so that it was locked at 30fps I would buy it. Some tearing and framerate issues are to be expected in any game sadly but there comes a point where these issues can impact on the enjoyment of a game. HS is one such game.

I got the game from Gamefly a few days ago and just now beat it- It was much better than I was expecting.

It really wasn't much of a button masher- no more than God of War or Devil May Cry. My main gripe with the gameplay was the countering- for some reason, I could never counter speed attacks, especially on the Fox battle. Battles weren't as fun as those from, say, God of War, but I wouldn't say they were bad. I didn't like the Kai gameplay portions at all.

The art direction was pretty incredible, and nearly every environment was stunning. The FPS chugged a bit in some places, and tearing was also pretty evident at times. Heavenly Sword had some of the best faces and acting I've seen on a console game: Nariko looked really lifelike in most of the real time cutscenes and CGI. The voice acting was also really great, especially the work for Nariko and Bohan. Great soundtrack as well.

Oh yea, the final chapter was incredible. The final boss battle was one of the best I've played in some time, even though it was kinda frustrating.

I really wish there would have been more polish put into the game and that it would have been pushed back a bit further to allow for better FPS and small graphical issues.

I just played through the game, and the only part I really loved were the cinematics. The gameplay was mediocre and nothing special, and it bothered me the whole way through that blocking was done "automatically". It was hard to get used to that, especially when it's so crucial for certain boss fights.

Controlling Kai was very clunky at times, especially when enemies could get close to you. I liked her sniping sequences, but hated the scene where you're in close quarters with guys you have to shoot in the head. Also, the SIXAXIS controls got old after a while, especially when you had to toss hats.

I'm glad I rented it, it was worth playing through once, and the "Making Of" feature was interesting.

The final boss fight was frustrating. I really liked the mechanics behind it, but I hate how if you mess up one of those button timing sequences you're basically screwed. I got Bohan to the final sequence on my first try, but I pressed triangle instead of circle, screwed up the sequence, and he regenerated enough health to fly up in the air and shoot me to death :(

Hope to see a sequel with the same production values but better gameplay.

I'd just stand and aim at their head without going into the after touch mode. A few shots and you usually hit their head where you need to.

Also Kai is such a great character.
I really hope the next game stars her. She should be older by then and would be able to user better weapons than twing twang.

I would miss Nariko too much. Maybe they could do something where Nariko's spirit is in the sword.. and she takes over Kai's body for parts of the game? Then again.. that might be kinda corny
:lol

i played it a few weeks ago and have very similar impressions of it. i definitely think people should play it, but i obviously can't really recommend it as a purchase.

personally i liked the kai segments.

with more polish (both technical and gameplay wise) it would have been an amazing game.

whiptail boss was my favorite. the music complemented it so great -- last time music got me pumped like that was in half-life 2.

Yeah Nariko was great and if they wanted i'm sure they could find a way to bring her back that'd be acceptable for fans. But i'd definitely be in favor of a game with Kai as the lead. I can only imagine how awesome she'd be during scenes where she's taunting bosses similar to how Nariko started doing.

dont play it expecting a story like MGS3. you will be disappointed. but the acting and presentation is near that of MGS3, very very dramatic. and yes, you WILL enjoy it.

the story isn't the best but the playing out of the scenes is the best period. best movies in a game.

Ok this is bullshit Region 3 of Heavenly Sword has no patch for rumble. TOTAL FUCKING BULLSHIT, this is outrageous shit. Shit I should have bought a Region 1 Heavenly sword goddamn it. FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!

I picked up playing this game after a long delay, and boy is the frame rate terrible. After finishing Uncharted, I remembered how awesome the cut scenes were in HS. But I can't even play it anymore due to the horrific frame rate. I'm playing a Kai section right now, and the only time the frame rate is smooth is when I use aftertouch. That is not an exaggeration. This game would be a serious jaw dropper if it had smooth animations. Well I guess I can hope for an improved HS2 whenever that come out.

Sorry for teh bumpz, but I have to ask. Was an official soundtrack released? All I found was a meh-quality rip of just 9 tracks. The music is probably the best aspect of this game.

I know, how can you hire the talents of Nitin Sawney and not release the soundtrack. :(

I still listen to those rips a gaffer did with the demo.
