Official LAIR thread

Not me. They are, as represented by their reviews.
Well, I'll wait to play both before making a judgement. Though it might take me awhile, with Bioshock coming this week, Warhawk next week, and Lair the week after that.

These shots have a lot more color than they used to. No, I'm not joking around either. Game looks much much better.

Just imagine how it will look on your xx" TV. :D

and sadly, it got a 5 from PSM. PSM also gives warhawk a 6.5.

Proof that they don't like the sixaxis? Yes.

Also, their Editor in Chief is an xbots in disguise ;)

can't believe Im still going to get this...but Im going with my hunch...the music and visuals will at least impress

Yeah, I'm still tempted to get it just for the spectacle of it all. But I'll probably wait for a price drop.

Being a bit of a graphics whore, Im surprised the game at least didnt get scored decently on that aspect...but thats probably a decent thing if the game is really mediocre.

Still its pretty funny Im probably still getting it, in the past Ive never even bought a game that got lower than 7s across the board. Still Im sceptical...maybe the game is shit, but I still find interests me more than quite a few other games

That's a CG cutscene

its def using real time assets...well if you check the ruliweb vid, since it is difficult to distinguish...at least from my impressions...

Anyway, any final thoughts on the game...? Have you completed it by now...?

Are you serious? :O

Any review that gives warhawk anything less than 8.9 is just plain false, though, and can safely be ignored.

Uh? Really? Or did you just make that up?

I thought Warhawk was Wowhawk.

There are scans of the magazine floating around. SHall I find it for you?

The warhawk review was done by the editor in chief of PSM, which was the former editor in chief of OXM. Take it as you will.

The guys on the new IGN Playstation podcast call Lair "painful" to play :(

I know alot of people around here dog on ign.com a bit but if they start taking shots at it I'm kinda worried now. and they also said it's the final review build and they will release the review the day it comes out :(

They're (Factor 5) shooting themselves in the foot by not releasing a demo of this before the games release. There are too many conflicting reports out there for people to make a decision on whether to purchase or pass on the game. A demo would definitely be the best solution...

and that it costs $60.. which is apparently a horrible deal since it comes with a $30 headset.

Someone should have told them they could just download it for a smaller fee....

I really do hate most reviewers. All of their priorities are ass backwards. Gameplay should be 60% of the score.

Yeah, I mean, anything within the 7.0-8.5 rage at least warrants some respect - for genre fans a game like that might be great - but if it's so bad that they are outright badmouthing the game, then...

I mean wow, could Lair be a sub 7 game?

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but did the release date change? Gamestop and Amazon are saying August 30 now instead of September 4.

I just recieved my new Game Informer this morning and have the Lair scores:

7.25 for main, and 8.0 for Second Opinion. Graphics and sounds are incredible and main gripe is controls.

lol, in my opinion is the other way around. guess I have some special skill when it comes to motion sensing.

I was at work yesterday and the Release date stated Sept 1st, so i guess its a change.

What exactly is the problem with controls ?

I see people saying it's painful, then people saying it's ok, responsive etc.

Are the ones complaining just don't like it being tilt only ? Or are the controls really screwed. Because that's not the same problem at all.

The same reason some people say that Wii Sports is a joke with no real control while others (like me) say the opposite. Tilt/Waggle has proven hard for many traditional gamers to judge.

I think the biggest problem with lair I've heard is that they forced the teen rating. No blood? Come on. Here's hoping the game is fun and solid.

Sorry about that my computer crashed, I'll take one line from each review about the controls.

Edit:

What it all boils down to, however, is you feeling foolish to be a part of these epic events - mostly because a dragon that flew this poorly would never be allowed to participate in battle, it would be back in the village pulling a plow in the fields or doing stupid tricks for scraps at the bar.-- Reiner

While the motion controls for flight are unique, they're also the weakest aspect of the title - it was several hours into the game before I felt like I had a firm handle on moving around.-- Miller

They each say the game is truly epic and compare it to LotR, blah, blah, blah.

BTW - if this is againt the TOS, let me know, haha >.>

Edit2:

TTP: Reiner also states the lock-on made the game far too easy, that all you do is lock-on, fire a few fireballs and you're done, since the lock-on also banks with the enemy and so on. Do you agree with this?

It's in line with EGM's scores. Of course, remembering that 5 is average at 1UP and 7.5 is average everywhere else.

Do they explain what makes the control so difficult? Is it just bad in general or is it because there is so much going on that it's sort of hard to wrap your head around it all? I'd love to hear what the reviewers thought of the boss battles.
