Official LAIR thread

I think he's trying to say that in Warhawk it feels like the SIXAXIS is almost 1:1 to the Warhawk onscreen so it seems a lot like you're flying the controller and not an aerodynamic airplane. I feel similarly. Lair appears to be a mixture of direct motion control as well as the gesture stuff for controlling the reigns.

Isn't that good, the 1:1? And is there a way to adjust the motion sensing sensitivity in Warhawk?

Sorry don't know crap about motion controls.

It's good, but in Warhawk the Warhawks don't feel like they are jets that are staying airborne due to the physical properties of aerodynamics. It's good because you can be ultra precise in your direction of flying, but a real jet would never twitch around so much when flying. It's not a problem, but you definitely get the sensation that you are in fact flying around the SIXAXIS in your hands.

So it's overly sensitive. But I thought in Warhawk they let you adjust it?

They should try to copy what Nintendo did with the flying dragon thing minigame in TP. You can kinda steer the creature in the general direction of where you want to go and is sensetive enough that you don't feel like you're not losing control. More realistic than twitch fest.

They do allow you to adjust it - it's just different in the sense that it doesn't control like your average aircraft would...you know, with at least some resistance.

Ok got it. Good to know its adjustable at least, when I played a bit of the beta it kinda felt good to me, took a while to get used to though.

the score sound pretty decent....but i'm not gonna justify my purchase on that. That egm review got me fucking afraid of even thinking about this game...and the delay really didn't help.

Man, I still really want to try this game.
Some of the shots look great!

I'll get it but man it's such a mixed bag. Creatures look great, some of the environments look great, the effects (while improved) are still really average. And why does everything explode? It seems they've given all the creatures/boats just lame reasonings for having an excuse to put explosions in, and then the explosions are really poorly done. Some lighting looks great, some look average. Some of the animations are fantastic, some are again average. It's so strange to me.

But what what I really do like is that it has that epic feel to it.

A bit of controversy around that review that's not completely unjustified.

All the flying creatures have hydrogen in their blood that helps them to stay airborne. It was in the EGM interview on the opposite page from the review.

friggin awesome.,, sound I've replayed it maybe 10 times now

Is it just me.. or is there a hint of Star Wars size epicness to the music... And at some points I swear the music is really influenced by StarWars.. (especially around the 1 minute mark)

The one posted by Duck is new. It's a second sample.

oh i c kool my bad my bad

yea I'm listening now... There is no way I'm going to let EGM ruin this game for me. They said it's kinda like F5s RS games I've never played one of those so this should be a real treat ha ha just add in the dragons and eating people alive and I'm good to go.

The Play review includes some closer shots of the spiderwasp in battle, lighting on it's carapace looks out of this world.

WTB LAIR OST uncompressed 7.1 PST.

@bebpo, september 4th is the latest i think.

Yep. It was supposed to come out this week but it was delayed three weeks to September 4th.

I saw they still had ads for the game in the weekly circulars. :'(

Yeah I caught that a while back as well, but that's sort of what I meant by lame excuses to put explosions in.

It wouldn't bother me if they weren't so badly done.

I'm trying not to sound too negative though because I am still looking forward to the title and will be buying it unless all the reviews coming in the next few weeks are lower than 7/10.

The game's music composition deserves a 10/10. This is Hollywood level of musical score.

If this is the title menu bg music, I can't wait for the entire soundtrack. :lol

I think the "Diviner Battle" track is more reminiscent of some stuff from Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust than Star Wars. Great stuff.

I'm not surprised. Second I heard Debney was scoring this bastard I knew it would have possibly the best game soundtrack of the year. It's great to hear it though and it sure amazes.

Ugh... these scores are really starting to worry me now. I'm seriously considering canceling my pre-order and just skipping this game.

In fact I think I will. Heavenly Sword is only a week or so later now it's been delayed.

no media coverage at all recently either...Im still one the fence with my pre-order...Im a bit of graphics whore though, so I might get it anyway

IGN is still trying to figure it out whether to give this game a 6.9 or a 7.1 and GS is always late to the party.

Gamer.tv has given Lair 3/5
http://n4g.com/ps3/News-60285.aspx

saying it was repetitive

I just watched their review in Google Video. They basically gave it a 60% because of two main reasons:

- Generic and repetitive missions with no innovation in the objectives... "Protect this, destroy that".
- No multiplayer. <-- I don't think that's something they should take off for.

They weren't critical of the frame rate. The guy did say that the lighting sometimes makes things messy as they showed gameplay during a night sequence. They liked the controls saying it was "intuitive".

Didn't Gamer.TV rate Bioshock 5/5? Maybe they got to play the special multiplayer edition. :lol

Ugh, great, the eBay guy I pre-ordered from won't let me cancel, so I'll probably pop this in, see if it really is as bad as the reviews suggest, and if that is the case, I'll just throw it back on eBay.

Maybe when you have the first thing you need the second, in their opinion.
You aren't claiming Bioshock is innovative, are you?

Fucking awesome setting? Yes. Innovative? No.

I really don't know why so many of you are taking reviews seriously. Most reviewers don't even finish games, so I don't see how they are very relevant. Wait for the demo if you are on the fence.

Bio is pretty innovative though in bringing a more cinematic experience to fps...the next step after Half life
