Official Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess thread

Well, screw that 3rd dungeon so far! I've been fishing for half an hour now and still don't want to stop. Man, the fishinig hole is GORGEOUS.

I'll answer more questions if people have them but I'm really sleep deprived and I don't want to say too much, its so much more fun to explore )

Oh man, the little details! @ the fishing hole
with all the time I've spent so far. I've seen some nice weather changes. Cloudy days, rain. I don't recall if OOT was like this. Also, another really neat little detail, if you look around with the camera while on the canoe with Hena and face towards her, she'll smile at you!
Man, these little things are just :O

Um,
I started Tuesday afternoon..took 85 hours but part of that time i was paused not playing or messing around. its so huge. I dont really know what details you want and I hate to spoil anything, but I think its the best Zelda game I've ever played.

That's awesome. I'm not even on the second dungeon yet and over 8 hours in. Good to hear you think it's the best Zelda yet.

Yes Oot was like that aswell.

Post 3rd dungeon spoilers:

That last puzzle at the Sacred Forest Meadow was workin' on my nerves for a bit. I suck at puzzles like that to begin with, in addition I was already damn tired. I just kept movin' 'em around, failing countless times, until I just kind of stumbled upon it.

<3 Master Sword.

* Sai turns in.

i was particularly impressed that they managed to keep every level new and fresh seeing as there are 9, I was waiting to get bored but it never happened. They make such great use out of all the weapons/items as well, and you can spend hours and hours just doing side missions and figuring out all the little secrets, totally awesome. I have to say I thought a lot about Animal Crossing and Metroid Prime when I was playing.

One review stands out most of all

I think the #2 spot will hold. Incredible. Take that, GS.

That bodes well. Does the game fall into your top 10 games of all time? I know everybody's tastes are different, just wondering if you were a fan in particular of the Zelda series.

Link to the Past was always my favorite Zelda game...I'm a huge Metroid and and I loved Metroid Prime and I think this bodes really really well for Corruption.

Maybe it's their expressions haha... this kid is awesome in the game.
i have heard from a review that TP has some Miyazaki moments in it

Pre-Second-Dungeon

Clearing Kakariko (sp?) village was a bit frustrating since a couple of the insect dots were a bitch to find, but man this game ROX. The first dungeon was very easy for me, but I can see why some people would have problems; The only problem I had in the dungeon was the stupid monkey, I knew i had to knock the stupid ass monkey off the pillars but I didnt know you had to get him to hit himself with his boomerang :( / The music in Twilight Realm is borderline awesome and sets the tone. Over all the music has been great. 7 hours in and I am about to start the second dungeon.

OOT has been imo officially dethroned, and TP is now the BEST GAME EVER!

Okay. As a long time zelda fan, I thought I pitch in my impressions as I'm about 10 hours in (about to approach the second dungeon). I had played since nes days and enjoyed LttP, Awakening, OoT, and WW very much. Right off bat, this game reminds me so much of OoT. Which could be a good or a bad thing I don't know but I loved OoT a lot, it was regarded my favorite of all zeldas. I also appreciate (more like spoiled horribly) WW a lot because of great controls and simpicity. Of course most zeldas are quite easy and "connect the dots" easy. I'm going to spoiler most of it even though its vague... but just to do so to appease whoever...

This game is graphically nice, I have to remind myself OoT is way outdated as I enjoyed this game speaking of, but the graphics of this game is what you can say... "meet expectations". The light gods are impressive, but then again Okami had spoiled me rotten here just a few weeks ago.

Battle system is good, just quite new with the wiimote which can be expected. I shouldn't be more frustrated with it much when its quite a new concept to add in afterall. It can get the job done easily but mix/throw in other elements it can go awry... Case in point, the bridge battle. That was annoying. I can see a post or two mentioned problems here. You would be trying to swerve left while whipping the poor mare all while trying to remember to SHAKE the darn nuncka and wiimote in hope to slash the bastard.

While I'm at it, SotC's horse was great compared to this mare imho. Remembering the intense battle with the turtle boss where you press the darn horse HARD and swerve HARD which is good enough to dodge its attacks. This mare TAKES a MINUTE to recall you're PULLING back to turn her ass around.

And finally... I like how the game left behind a vague trail of clues of what to do right then. It can be good or a bad thing really. I don't care, I can say I was spoiled by Okami or WW I don't know. However it was frustrating for me to figure out a simple task (as you can see DOZENS of posts asking for help here onto something quite simple) but I eventually figure out of course, but it wasn't that rewarding... just added more dismay of wondering just how much did they focused elsewhere... For example, in OoT you don't GET a lot of items right off bat. Probably a lot of dungeons were meant for you to learn how to use a certain item. However in the first dungeon, you are thrown with multiple items quite quick and it easily get you wondering what next to proceed. Lamp, boomerang, slingshot, bottles, HECK even the darn bombs. :\

And already with these items I STILL ONLY GOT 3 FRIGGEN HEARTS to the boss battle. Yeah I'm gripping. The first boss battle kinda disappointed me that a mere lucky "glitchy" hit can actually work with those inital two plant heads. I'd be walking around with the bomb in my hands still and that thing managed to swallow it without swallowing me. But I can get hit from next time that happened with the intent to repeat the lucky "shot". I suppose you COULD place/throw it, or use your darn boomerang to pass the bomb or whatever. But that was just... disappointing. First attempt at that boss battle, I died wondering why I can't hit eye plant with the bomb MYSELF. Oh right, USE BOOMERANG AND PASS IT TO HIM. How can I be so stupid? I just feel so stupid repeatedly after several "frustating times" like this.

Music's nice. I actually like Midna concept. Her giggles always spooked the hell out of me from the wiimote's speaker. The wolf concept is alright... Just that Okami beat them to it in awesome doggy heroics. I did like how they did apply incentives you can do from senses. I'm only 10 hours in, so hopefully I'll see some good use out of this.

For some reason... the lack of people in K village actually scared me. I hope it does improve from here. Don't mind my gripe, I'm just in a mildly pissed off mood anyway. So take my impression with a grain of salt anyway.

there was one moment where i screamed and jumped out of my skin.
of course, it was like, 5 in the morning and I was sleepy.

Okay, I'm kind of pissed at MyCheats.com. I thought a miniboss in the first dungeon was more complicated than it really was, so I went on to check. Funny thing is, MyCheats lists the parts of their guide by section. As in dungeon names/levels from the game. I had the foresight to only take one glance (before I realized what it was), but in that glance, I saw part of the name of the last level/dungeon/etc, and its name was strongly reminiscent of a character from another very popular franchise which I'm not going to say here (neither the franchise nor the name). However, I hope that doesn't come back to bite me later if/when a twist is spoiled for me (as in a "So they're the final boss?" thing).

Is there a bug in my game or am I that stupid?

When I first leave Kakariko Village, I am told to go talk to the mayor of the town. Which I do. Then he gives me those iron boots. Now I'm being told to go to Death Mountain. But the road to Death Mountain is locked and there's no other way to get there. WTF I am so confused.

Did you climb up the gate?

jump over it with your horse

Boards of Canada:
What do you mean "locked"? Specifically where? You should be able to climb up, use the boots to hold your ground and throw the creatures away from you by pressing a.

I can't. It's locked. Let's make sure we're talking about the same gate: This one leads to Kakariko Village. There is a broken sign hanging over top. Gate is locked. Can't jump over.

He/she should have already done that to leave Kakariko Village(taken the south gate). There are two gates, one to the north of the village and one to the south of the village. Both lead to Hyrule Field.

Best game ever confirmed.

I'm just starting the 3rd dungeon and about 13 hours in. The game was pretty disappointing until after the first dungeon...since then? Holy shit...

I started typing out my favorite moments, but there's just too many!

Lake Hylia
is ****ing ridiculous in an awesome way. The semi-
panzer dragoon
sequences are beautiful and fun. The boss and cinema after you get the
last tear
at the
lake
destroys anything I've ever seen in a Zelda game. The story is so
dark
and
scifi-ish
now I'm loving it. The atmosphere and feel of the game really reminds me of Majora's Mask.

For the Kakariko Map, one exit leads to Death Mountain, and one leads to Hyrule... Okay I'm so confused. I don't see two entrances to Hyrule.

Okay dude, there are two entrances FROM Hyrule Field TO Kakariko Village. I accidentally found this out myself when leaving by the wrong exits. Within Kakariko Village, you have two paths. One that leads north to Hyrule Field(not the south exit that leads to Faron Woods/Village) and the other leads to Death Mountain. Which path and sign are you talking about?

Death Mountain<----X X-------->Hyrule Field north exit

------------------------Kakariko Village-----------------------

------------------------Hyrule Field south exit----------------

I'm so freaking impressed. This is Nintendo at its most inventive since Super Mario 64.

Chicken on Epona? Playing CHICKEN? Are you kidding me, Nintendo? Wow.

This game should really be called "How Eiji Got His Grove Back."

So I'm in the first dungeon,
trying to rescue the closest monkey to the boss. There's a vine heading to the upper level, but I can't get off at the top because there's a rock blocking the way. There's bombs that I can fetch with my boomerang, but I don't know how to get them up to the rock from where I am on the ground

Have you tried sending it back to yourself and running and throwing it? What about targetting the rock and the plant and sending the bomb to the rock?

Woo more little tidbits on Hena! :Spend waaay too much time on fishing:
If you keep rolling into things in her shop, she'll give you various reactions before finally kicking you out! :lol Afterwards, you have to apoligize with her and you get 3 choices, but it doesn't seem to change her reaction afterwards with what you chooice. It's still an awesome little detail.

How do you beat the(PER THIRD DUNGEON SPOILERS)
giant insect (the last tear for the Zora Province). I flip him over and just keep on attacking his legs but its been like 10 minutes and nothing is happening.

Thanks

edit_ I figured it out. Forgot about Midna :)

Woo, beat the second dungeon. General thoughts in bullet point because I'm too lazy to write:
- Hyrule field music at night is SO good and creepy, first time I heard it I got chills. And the way it transitions to the battle music is super smooth.
-Everybody remember to not pick up the boss hearts, so you can be hardcore! I only have 3 hearts right now, haven't died this many times in Zelda since LttP.
- If you do a sword attack coming out of a roll, you'll do a lunging stab. :D

Seems like there's a few places already where people are getting stuck due to puzzles. I am so glad to hear the game is offering at least semi-challenging (it seems) puzzles even this early.

Hey folks, did you guys find that there was one unattainable chest in the second dungeon, a few rooms before the boss? I suspect that we need to return with whatever acts as a Hookshot in this game. Can anyone chime in and confirm or deny being able to get it upon first visitation?

Thanks.

PS - Just finished the second dungeon. This might just be the best game ever made!

Heh, I just finished that part myself. Very cool, indeed.

Running around Hyrule field and doing the pre dungeon 2 stuff has taken up a lot of time. I'm just now entering the 2nd dungeon and I'm at 10 hours played. I guess I could easily see myself finishing around the 75 hour mark Nintendo claimed.

Superb game, just keeps getting better and better.

PRE 3rd dungeon spoilers
How the **** do I get back to Hyrule from Lake Hylia(in Human form?) I went in a cave and was lost for 30 min with no lantern oil!

edit- uh, i got it again. :D

One review stands out most of all

i really hope Gamespot see now that there review stinks.
I did think yeah okay maybe he's not wearing rose tinted glasses.
But for everyone to score this as they did, and some only scoring it 90 + 95% due to their scoring being very unflexible (4/5, 4.5/5 etc).
Without Gamespot review the game goes up to 97.52%, had they marked it like everyone else, it'd be top!!

I am taking it really slow... I am 3.5hrs in and just heading to the first dungeon. I have to say that this game is just fantastic. It have had at least 4 or 5 "holy shit" moments already and just love where the game is going and how it has nods to all the other games in the series (I loved the same thing about WW).

It is interesting to compare this to FFxii. I had really been looking forward to FF and thought Zelda would not live up to the hype. It is amazing that while both series still mostly follow the same formula, it is FFxii that feels boring while Zelda Wii feels like a true revolution.
