This doesnt really have anything to do with Snow Leopard, but I love the trackpad gestures thing. Especiallt since the keyboard doesn't have a Home or End key. It's fantastic. Also, I miss being able to surf with a good computer from bed. =P
love the gestures, just wish that the rotate, and pinch zoom in/out were used in more apps then just preview

Firefox uses the pinch/zoom thing to make the text in the window larger. Aside from that, haven't really used that too much. I am trying to get used to the whole trackpad being the button instead of being at the bottom. I normally use my right hand as the pointer and my left as the button clicker, which kinda throws things off when I'm trying to scroll.

Also, just upgraded to Snow Leopard since it wasn't preinstalled on the laptop. Haven't really noticed anything too different so far, but I bet most of the improvements are under the hood.

I understand you can still use the bottom of the trackpad as a button on the new pads. Basically, you can treat it exactly as if it were a separate button. At least in the store, when I was playing around, it behaved like this.

Yea. The bottom works as a regular one, but I tend to leave my fingers on the button in case, so that kinda throws things off a bit. The computer will think I'm pinching when I'm trying to scroll up. Nothing major, just something small.

Also, I love Spaces. I thought it wasn't necessary, but holy crap it's awesome. I love having my iTunes in one area, and my main stuff somewhere else.

Hmmm, interesting. I wonder if it still registers as a 'pinch', if you use your right thumb on the button?

Fn-Arrows act like Page Up/Down, CMD-Arrows in that context acts as Home/End.

Finally installed Snow Leopard after having Tiger for 3 years. installation was pretty easy, just had to format old Tiger instalation and install snow leopard on blank space. Running better than expected on a mac mini 1.8ghz, although was a bit worried at first as it was really slow just after installation, but speed gradually inproved after more use. Exploring folders from the dock in grid view is great, fast and efficient.

Managed to install Windows 7 RTM too, via bootcamp. Runs well, although installing the drivers from the Snow Leopard disc seemed to make windows a bit slower.

Kinda dissapointed with Front Row, the interface is a bit pants now compared to the old Tiger one.

Overall its been a good upgrade from Tiger and it only cost £22.99 from amazon.

I can't even remember what the Tiger Front Row was like. I was a little disappointed that SL didn't update Front Row at all compared to Leopard.

I prefer Front Row's Leopard look over the old Tiger look, and am just glad they didn't make it look like the latest AppleTV software. They fucked up the interface in the newer AppleTV FrontRow because they made it overloaded with advertisements for the useless iTunes Movie Store. Fuck. Was such a disappointment.

But who cares about FrontRow. Plex is where it's at.

The biggest let down from Tiger -> Leopard was Airtunes. In Tiger when you launched music it would pretty much make a playlist in iTunes and play it through iTunes, so Airtunes was naturally a part of that. In Leopard they made, for whatever reason, FR it's own music player, so shit plays through the Mac's speakers no matter what. Huuuge let down when it happened.

Is anyone having issues with Snow Leopard and Handbrake? I'm trying to rip DVDs, and I keep getting an Invalid Source error. I thought it could be VLC Player, but when I remove it, Handbrake recognizes the DVD, but keeps me from ripping it.

Can we talk for a minute about how amazing the one-two punch of Automator + Services is under Snow Leopard?

Do you know what I hate? Every time I download something that's in an archive I have to unarchive it, go back to the original archive, throw it in the trash, and then empty the trash. That shit is annoying and time consuming. So I just wrote a Service to do it for me. Gets the job done in like 2 fucking seconds. Amazing.

Looks like it's an issue with VLC. A friend of mine is having a few problems with it as well. I even tried to downgrade down to 0.9.8 to no avail.

Anyone else having crash problems? Since I installed SL, apps that save/read files from the hdd like to crash. Uploading/saving a pic or file in Safari/Opera will usually cause a crash, saving a text document in textedit will sometimes crash, DrScheme crashed after I saved the homework assignment I had been working on for 3 hours. Luckily things seem to crash after the save is complete so I haven't had any data loss yet, but it's really annoying.

Also, sometimes the CPU sits at 60 C at idle and won't go down until a restart. Nothing out of the ordinary is using the CPU when this happens. I think it has to do with the CPU not underclocking itself under light loads or something.

Edit: Seems im not alone

Hey guys; sorry to bump this thread for such a lame question:

I just got a MacBook Pro (loooove it!), and I want to make sure I have the latest OS on this thing. When I click on "About this Mac" it tells me that I'm running OSX 10.6.2

I'm a total newbie, so please don't judge. This is indeed Snow Leopard?

Is there still no way outside of streaming to get my Macbook and HD systems to talk directly through USB, or anything?

If I wanted to transfer a bunch music files to the Hard Drives of both these systems, what would be the most efficient means?

So I'm guessing this would be a no? Anyone?

I'm dreading the thought of having to burn a ton of CDs to get some music onto these systems' HDs.

why can't you transfer it on a shared network?

You mean streamed wirelessly? Because looking around the menus in the Xbox OS I couldn't find any options to initiate this. It only has options to play files. I use Vuze for streaming files...

Just got my new MacBook Pro (15" matte screen i7 512GB 720rpm) :D I'm so happy! Coming from an '07 MacBook Pro there are a couple of things I'm not used to:

- When I double click to drag I have to wait a second before it drops. Is this normal and is there a way to fix it?

- Had no idea the enter button was phased out. Any particular reason why?

On the PS3 this is possible by hitting Triangle and selecting Copy to HD. I'm not sure if it's possible on the 360.
