Which is why I mentioned it's better in Leopard. Very much so. More like an Achilles ingrown toenail now, but it's still not perfect, and it's still absolutely silly. I haven't encountered any beachballs or Safari hissy fits from them, but they still play at like, half speed.
You and that damn Achilles' heel simile.

This new OS is truly the first "service pack" level release of osx. Even if it is "just" $29.99, this product should be free.

Just wanted to come in and say that from my new macbook pro.

Yeah, all the development time and resources for recoding and/or recompiling applications and adding new development APIs = should be free.

I advise you to go read the Ars review.

Just bought today, after being out of stock for a couple of weeks and I am loving it. Loving the new design tweaks, it runs like a charm.

I have a question for any CoverSutra users out there though. Is anyone experiencing some errors after the latest update? Mine is displaying the same song even after I change tracks. Just wondered if anyone else's was messing up.

just to be clear, i can upgrade from tiger to snow leopard without buying leopard or the mac box set thingy?

It's what I just did. I couldn't afford to buy Leopard, so I stuck with Tiger till I found out that I could just buy the Snow Leopard Upgrade. So I got the Family Pack for my two macs.

manutd said:
ordered it from amazon, hopefully some of the issues i had with tiger will be ironed out with a clean install of snow leopard.

Wonder how well it will run on my 1.83ghz mac mini

I too, was having some weird things happen with Tiger (that probably would have been fixed with a fresh Tiger install), specifically permissions issues that AppleJack and Disk Utility were unable to fix. Everything is working properly now!

Edit:Beat with a stealth edit.

Installing now, not that I've had many SL problems to be fixed.

:p

My two main issues are unresolved:

- Accessing iPhoto library for Desktop Background through System Preferences times out due to large library.

- 4 finger gesture bug (swipe up and then down without lifting fingers leaves expose bouncing around).

Also, I'd like better use of colour profiles, but it confuses me as it is.

Lastly, since when did the Google buttons look like this?:

Weird, my 10.6.1 update was way smaller.

Not that uncommon, really depends on your configuration. Either your computer is a lot newer, or older and doesn't require some of the updates.

There is a beta which includes support for Snow Leopard.

Anyone in the GTA still waiting for SL? Mine shipped over a week ago and I still haven't received it, usually Apple stuff gets to my place really quick. There's no tracking number either, so I can't check that way.

Just finished the upgrade - holy crap, it cleared out TWENTY ONE GIGS on my hard drive. Apparently I badly needed to reformat or something.

So far it's still pretty buggy - network connections winking in & out, dragged icons sticking to the cursor until I press esc. But finally upgrading to Safari 4.0.3 is nice (I was still on the beta version before), GAF is blazing at a million miles an hour. It's practically instantaneous.

So far on balance I'm giving it thumbs up, hopefully they push out some updates in the next week or so that clear up the bugs.

maybe that could be rectified by a clean install? i've yet to find a serious bug other than a keyboard issue when switching spaces via hotkeys.

Run Software Update. There's 10.6.1 already.

God damn I feel ripped off buying this piece of crap. I'm now running into a lot problems with it, such as my wifi not working, dropping connections all the time, my porn videos don't even load and if they do load, after 2 minutes they start lagging. Safari doesn't even work half the time and when it does fuck up, I gotta close the entire application then relaunch it. wtf.

No. Snow Leopard is more the Mac OS X equivalent to Windows 98 Second Edition, which cost $20 to upgrade back in 1999.

hell for those who are using it, like myself, integrated exchange support is a big deal and easily, EASILY, worth 30 bucks. I’d pay 50 for that seamless integration with my work email and calendar.

You feel ripped off because something's gone wrong?

Here's a tip: Something's wrong.

I know this may sound stupid but...what's exchange support mean?

Also sad to see that 10.6.1 doesn't fix the opposite 4 finger-swipe bug. :(

LOL What?

Just do a fresh install. You know that OSX puts all of your previous installation into a "Prevous Installation" folder right? Clear out like 15-20 GB, and have at it. When it's done, move anything you need over to the new installation, and delete the older folders. It really is that simple. I had a bunch of problems, then did this, and it fixed everything. I'm running clean now. Feelsgoodman.gif

i was really hoping this fixed my sleep function. does anybodys computer NOT go to sleep like it should? when on the battery, i have it set to sleep after like 3 minutes. it never goes to sleep. ever.

i have insomniax and caffeine installed, obviously disabled at these times, and no sleep. i have a feeling these are affecting it but not sure. anybody have these programs? maybe ill ask in the noob thread too

Yeah, I think I need to do a fresh install. I'm having the same problems. Thing is, this system was originally 10.4, which I upgraded to 10.5 and now to 10.6.

I have a 350GB HD sitting next to my computer. What's the best, easiest way of getting a fresh install without losing too much time and applications?

Thanks.

I had issues with sleep sometimes - there can be a lot of things that prevent it from sleeping.

Sometimes something just goes rogue. Try closing all apps, or restarting.

I leave my computer on at night and sometimes it;s asleep over night, and sometimes not.

Upgraded from 10.5, and absolutely 0 issues. In fact, it fixed alot of weird issues I was having. Maybe you have too much porn.

if i restart then yea, sleep works. so im trying to pinpoint what application is preventing it, because after some amount of time it stops working, every time. i'll have to pinpoint it

I've done a clean install and have 10.6.1, there are others that have the same problem aswell

oh. haha. i only ask because the same thing happened to mine last week. it's getting repaired right now. i would love a nice free upgrade though ;)

Are you still covered under Apple Care? My old MBP is out of warranty, so I was wondering how much it would cost to have Apple fix mine. Maybe I shouldn't have been so rash in buying a new MBP. :lol

The thing is, I DID do a fresh install, wiped off the hard drive and everything and no I don't have too much porn.

I did a fresh install as well, and am not having any problems. Maybe just try another reinstall?
