i remember the larry bird comparison around draft day.
too early to peg him as a bust? sure, why not.
from a larry bird comparison to a decent backup hopeful? current bust. absolutely.

I don't remember anyone, not a single person, say that Morrison was going to be the next Larry Bird. I do recall people saying that he has a game like Larry Bird. In that case, that is absolutely true. He does have a very similar game to Bird.

what about william avery? or bobby hurley? or nikoloz tskitisvili?

lots of options.

great game by the lakers tonight. i like when teams show some personality. kobe saying that it was personal was a good sign. i don't get why we don't see more of that in the NBA.

for that reason, looking foward to the next lebron-stevenson showdown.

I don't see how its possible to label Morrison anything but a bust. I mean we could have had Rudy Gay, or even Reddick (who is in fact the better player, he'll be able to show off once Bogans is gone from Orlando) - just think how things would be different with the bobcats if he didn't blow out his knee getting broken down by luke walton. He can't guard a chair.

His game simply doesn't translate to the NBA. If you can't hit wide open 3s then why the hell would any coach in his right mind run a dozen plays for him a game just to come off a screen and miss more open shots?

Matt Carroll is better than you? You probably suck.

BTW, for those blaming Kidd for not scoring, on defense he held Rondo and Cassell 1-16 shooting for 4 points. Oh, and Rondo had 3 assists with 5 turnovers. Kidd is not the problem.

That was a freak accident when he was guarding Walton. He was just the wrong guy at the wrong time. You can tell that he was going to cut him off on the base line and his ankle just gave out on him. There's nothing a person can do in that instant. Then Walton blew past him.

I'll concede to you about Gay. As far as Reddick goes--I predict he will be even worse than Morrison. He is a worse defender and rebounder than Morrison. He can shoot lights out, but we've seen no evidence of his game translating to the NBA. NCAA and NBA are two very different animals.

Matt Carroll isn't that bad. He's not a starter, but he's a fantastic role player. He's like a young Barry and I don't really have a problem with that.

I couldn't agree more. At the same time though, I dislike Nowitzky comparisons with Bargnani, because who knows how someone will develop. He could end up being better.

I'm really sad about not having Morrison though. When someone plays with that much passion, how can that not translate into them always improivng...
Oh dear...

Lakers-Age needs to come up with a nickname for Bargnani, drafted first overall, seven footer who can't rebound, defend, dribble, jump, finish or shoot.

Should be easy enough.

Apparently Bargnani is wearing a mask for what the Raptors medical staff diagnosed as general facial soarness, dude didn't even break his nose.

A guy who has no real NBA skills but gets drafted high because he "looks like an NBA player"?

Sounds like White Kwame is a good nickname for this guy.

And great win for the Lakers. They came up big despite being shorthanded. Imagine what a difference Vlad could have made last year if his dumb ass didn't get injured snowboarding. He can actually finish if given enough space and his outside shooting has always been good.

Whenever somebody disses somebody in here now we post "shots fired".

I guess "daggerrrrrrrrrr" is slowly supplanting it but I prefer to run Zep's material into the ground instead of jobber's.

I read somewhere that they made the final decision of drafting him after seeing his psychological tests. He is supposed to be have a cold personality on court that performs better under pressure. Something like MJ personality on court..

I am having trouble belieiving that because it seems that all his problems are on his mind. When he gets in the zone he sure looks like an awesome player... but he normally is meh

He told Jordan "If you draft me you will not regret it"

Little known fact: what tipped them off to this was that he too had killed his father.

Swingman Ira Newble has decided to sign a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, choosing them over the Cavs.

A source said the Cavs offered Newble a spot on the team Wednesday, but the two sides could not agree on certain terms of his return.

The Cavs traded Newble to the Seattle SuperSonics last month, but never gave away his locker. Newble was eligible to rejoin the Cavs on Tuesday.

The Cavs still have one open roster spot that they may fill by early next week.

We need him. Walton is just too pathetic right now..

yeahh

When NBA prospects enter the draft, they are often subjected to psychological testing, the kind that measure the personality factors that are considered most relevant for success on the basketball court. When Bryan Colangelo, Raptors GM, learned of Bargnani’s results on the test, the result was dramatic, he nearly dropped the phone.

“They said his upside and potential were off the charts,” and went on to continue, “they said, ‘Out of all the athletes we’ve profiled, we’ve never seen anything like this.’”

Also this , one of the best almost-assist ever...

Bargnani is not Dirk II but the guy is obviously talented and has the ability to play great basketball. He's had games, even several this year, where he's shown he can score. I'm not too down on the guy because I didn't expect him to be like Dirk. He's just not a number one pick. I'd say he was probably a top five that year, but not number one. But you can't blame him because the Raptors masturbated over psychological testing.

Matt Carroll isn't that bad. He's not a starter, but he's a fantastic role player. He's like a young Barry and I don't really have a problem with that.

Anyone that follows the Orlando Magic or JJ Redick can tell you that numerous people in the Orlando F/O and coaching staff LOVE Redick, but can't play him right now because he's a defensive liability on a team that already has a tandem of great outside shooters. They have 3 shooting guards right now including Redick, and Redick is the only one who's not on the last year of his contract. He'll most likely be starting next year, if not he'll be getting at least 20+ mpg. He just got drafted into a odd situation. Its become clear that the Orlando F/O doesn't believe in *planning*.

Much unlike Morrison's situation. Where he was given the starting position and gradually worked himself out of the starting line-up with his incredibly bad defense and abysmal rebounding for a guy his size. Size... one of the main reasons people liked Morrison over Redick, Redick is a lot smaller, but a hell of a lot more versatile. How a 6'8 small forward averages fewer than 3 rebounds per game on the Bobcats is just baffling. He averaged 13 points on a terrible team while shooting a horrible 37%. And again - that was no accident. Does Luke Walton put Dorrell Wright in a wheel chair? Did he put Bonzi Wells on crutches for 2 weeks? What about Grant Hill? Did those ankles give out trying to guard the beast that is Luke "Baby Juke" Walton? No. He sidelined A-Mo by blowing out his KNEES.

HIS KNEES.

I'm sure never in Adam Morrison's life did he ever expect to go against such an offensive terror on the court. Never did he imagine he'd be face to face against Blackheart in basketball player form. I feel sorry for the next poor soul that has to match wits in the deadly game of pre-season hoops with the son of the devil. Thats not a fate that I wish on anyone.

So Adam Morrison can't even live up to being a Barry? Not even a young Barry - an old one? Thats LAME. Jon Barry is a better basketball player right now than Matt Carroll. Therefor, he's a better player right now than Adam Morrison (who's probably somewhere in a wheel chair watching The Best of Larry Bird highlights on YouTube with his brand new iPhone).

Adam Morrison am FAIL. So lets just pack it up and roll down to my boy P-Rylz crib and chill with Sr. GOAT, Sean "Bubbleguts" May, and The Talented Mr. Felton to get started on this scouting trip...

I don't understand why Phil doesn't run Kobe at the 1. I mean, he is better than both Fish and Farmar and could set plays better than them too. That would allow them to move Lamar to the 3 and Sasha to the 2 and Turiaf would start at the 4.

WTF Phil? Everyone in the world can see this would work, why can't you?:lol
i like kobe at the 1 too. in the halfcourt set, just by having the ball in kobe's hands at the top of the key, you can see the defense freeze and get ready to react to his every move. this causes a defensive breakdown almost every time.

the past 2 games, the lakers have looked like the old chicago bulls. they've got the defensive intensity with their players running over the picks, they're rotating quick, and getting back in transition even quicker. another resemblance to the bulls is the laker's offense. it's less focus on the post up game that works with a player like shaq or gasol. sasha and the other gaurds are finally filling that kerr/paxton role, turiaf looks like grant/rodman, and finally odom is looking like pippen, especially the defense he did on dirk and boozer.

That reminds me, Bargnani's court awareness, and passing ability was also compared to that of Larry Bird's, by Chuck Swirsky, on air, more then once.

DeShawn Stevenson calls out Lebron, says he's all on Jay-Z's (shorts).

Remember, after Stevenson called James "overrated" following a game between the teams last Thursday, James responded by saying he is above such mess because that would be like his hero, Jay-Z, lowering himself to respond to the rapper, Soulja Boy. So, in one neat quote, James dissed Stevenson and Soulja Boy. Well, Stevenson is embracing the Soulja Boy role.

"I hope we play Cleveland," Stevenson said. "I'm going to get Soulja Boy courtside seats and have him wear a DeShawn Stevenson jersey. Maybe (James) can have Jay-Z there since LeBron's all on his (shorts) anyway."

Stevenson wasn't done. "And tell LeBron to cut that beard off and stop copying me."

:lol

Yep, someone posted about that couple days ago.

And is that a joke about Kobe being a 1? Like bring the ball up the court and run the sets?! Uhm.

Cleary Avery Johnson's Iso offense can only be ran by a player of Kobe's caliber. Avery is just before his time.

See the playbills got lost in the mail, if they hadn't you would have seen:

"Playing the role of Konex this evening, ryutaro's mama."

I wonder if there's any chance the Mavs could trade Josh Howard for Corey Maggette.

Maggette would kill with Kidd.

Maggette is most likely upcoming FA so no need for a trade
