The game tonight was reminiscent of the team from the playoffs last year. Everyone outside of Sykora (PETER GUNN!!! lol) had a great game pretty much.

Looks like Sid has a couple of competent guys that know how to cycle the puck on the boards now. I'm interested to see how that line clicks after a few games.

Dan Blysma for President! This team is not SOFF anymore

And Fleury wasn't letting in weak goals and had a bunch of nice saves. I was very impressed.

It could be a costly defeat for Philadelphia because forward Daniel Briere tweaked a groin injury that already forced him to miss 51 games this season. He’ll be examined on Friday. Briere, a high-priced free-agent acquisition in 2007, just returned to the lineup Sunday after sitting out 36 games

From last month's thread:

I think they should've gotten rid of Randy Jones. He has been sub-par this season and it would've freed up a lot of cap.
Both Metro and Vanaanan should still be on the team.
Briere will be out again right after the trade deadline. Guaranteed.

Exactly what I was afraid of with Gerber happened tonight. He's coming here with zero pressure and playing to try and get a contract during the upcoming free agency. Right now we're stuck in that shitfuck void in the east. We're too far back to really catch anyone else and we're too far up to drop into a lower draft slot.

Basically, we're fucked and stuck where we are. 11th place it is...

Atleast John Mitchell is starting to impress and Tlusty is playing well in the AHL.

R_GILL

I'm tanking for Kabanov!
I <3 Kubina and all but with his contract ending before Cap-ageddon and him probably having a career year in points, I hope we trade him in the summer because I doubt his value will ever be higher and I doubt he agrees to waive it at next years trade deadline.

So, Caps can't win without AO or something? What the heck's up with this team lately?

Pens are 4-0 on their current 5 game road trip. Bring on the Caps. I hope AO gets healthy so Caps fans won't have an excuse when they get destroyed by a rejuvenated Pens squad. Jinx? We'll see.

AO said he would have played tonight if it was a playoff game so he'll be there to pester Sid and torch the Pens on Sunday.

Dude, the last game would have been ours if MAF didn't give up 2 softies, and if Whitney wasn't on our team. One of those factors is now gone, and I'm hoping MAF has a decent game...anyway, should be interesting either way. Pens are starting to look like a darkhorse that could potentially make some noise IF they make the playoffs. Still lots of work to do...

Well, I hate to take away from it, but it's kind of like predicting I'll wake up tomorrow. The chances are pretty good.

Not that tonight is any measuring stick, since it's the first game, but Upshall was really really missed. Tonight's game was his kind of game...would have helped if the Flyers showed up at all too, but..

I'll take 3 goals from the new guys in their first game.

I dont get why you dont dig Pihlstrom sef. The dude can be magical when given a proper shot. And the energy he brings is exceptional.

Also I think pumpkin head has already started affecting Calgarys team chemistry negatively... it didn't show up on the scoreboard, but people looked sour.

I'm a pretty big Pihlstrom fan, I just wish he would find that scoring touch he had in the AHL. The chances he generates with his speed and physical play are awesome and you don't really see him making those mistakes some of our other young guys are making in the course of a game. Every real scoring opportunity he's had this year he's pretty much missed the net completely, which has relegated him to a checking line, but he's doing a damn fine job on it and the Pihlstrom/Tootoo/Fiddler line has been a blast to watch the last few weeks (despite being around -3 in the Oilers game). I'd actually planned on getting one of the Admirals new 3rd jerseys with his name on it, but he got the call up and has worked so hard he's never been sent back. Plus, his hair rules.

Yeah, lots of work to do. But what's crazy is now only 4 points separate seeds 4-8.

Ok he's a scorer and if he doesn't score it makes sense the hype is down. I assume it's not because of linemates, because he can create his own chances.

I think it was in the 2008 world cup where he eclipsed every single player on the team Finland roster and won the team scoring title. The team had Mikko Koivu, Teemu Selanne, Saku Koivu and Olli Jokinen. But he was hands down the teams best player, and everyone down here pretty much loves him (these days). I've been waiting for him to make that final jump in the NHL, and I dont understand why it isn't happening.

Holy cow. It was bouncing, but Boucher's got to be down in the butterfly, covering his five-hole on that one.

And here is a capture of Tyler Kennedy literally licking his stick last night. He did score twice...

Your going to get Sef all hot and bothered with that pic... :D

I tried to make a fairly tame wager on Pro Line tonight. Here are my picks.

Flames over Canes (counting on more Jokinen hotness)
Iginla over Staal (is Iggy playing with Joki?)
Thrashers over Habs (counting on a Habs collapse, though it will be interesting if Halak gets the start...plus, the Thrashers suck)

$5 wager. $36.10 payout. Not earth shattering, but every little bit helps, and it makes the games more enjoyable to keep track of when you've got something invested in them.

EDIT: OMG YESSSS.

"Price, likely to start Friday with Jaroslav Halak day-to-day with the flu, is 2-0-1 with a 2.18 goals-against average in four career games against the Thrashers. He hasn't had anything close to that kind of success lately, though, going 0-5-1 with a 4.52 GAA in his last seven overall after finishing with 22 saves Tuesday - his first start since Feb. 19."

What happened to the sharks? I went to bed and they were kicking ass and I woke up to see them lose, and get it tied by a horrendous goal no less too.

They stopped putting people in front of the net, stopped shooting quickly, couldn't clear the zone when they had the chance. Pavelski and Clowe both had 7 shots on goal each. The first line had maybe 3 or 4 total. People just didn't show up to play after the first period.

I look forward to the Leafs making 9th place this season. :lol

It'll ease the pain of seeing the Oilers there in the West. :(

Uuuugh. C'mon, Flames! Get in this game!

3-0 in the first. Barring a miracle, there goes my Pro Line ticket. :( FLAAAAAMES!

So the Bell Centre completely destroys the ACC for atmosphere, hands down not even close. I still give the edge to Toronto though as the better overall city, sure Montreal was crazy fun but I think Toronto just takes the cake..I'm biased though so I'm not going to bother fighting anyone on these opinions.

No surprises for me looking at trade deadline, Bob Gainey has taught me well to not expect the unexpected. The team will improve once Tanguay comes back anyways, and its only a matter of time till Price works out his kinks. Halak is more than capable of carrying the team if need be anyways, he was UNBELIEVABLE against the Sharks.

It is funny though to look back threw all the pages I've missed and read manics busting load after load on the impending triumphant return of the maple leafs....:lol

Good luck grabbing those top end draft picks during you're yearly climb to 9th place losers. leafs have been on the wrong end of the playoff line for so long now that they just associate 9th with top spot since they don't know any better.

"Kinks in his game". Fuck Wolf that's like saying Paris Hilton just needs to cut down on cock a small tad. LOL. Jesus Price has gone from a .920 save % last year to .902 now. I'd say he's got more issues than some "kinks". LOL

Seriously, I bet its some mod who hates hockey put it at the bottom.

Watching loltreal lose then going to hfboards is turning out to be my favourite pass time :lol Its gotta suck for Kovalchuk though he's been on that shitty for a long ass time.
