WTF, the Leafs picked up Gerber AND Kolzig ? Why ? Is Pogge dead ?

TSN is saying Kolzig is injured and is very likely to retire. The whole deal was done by the Lightning to dump salary. And in return they gave us a draft pick.

Don't really know what moves there really were out there for the Habs, realistically. Schneider has worked out great so far, so Im happy with that. And Gainey didnt go and do anything balls out crazy like the Huet trade this year.

Spoken like a true homer. :lol Enjoy the firing of Gainey in the off season.

With Gerber, Kolzig, and Joseph, the Leafs must be striving to set a new NHL record for combined age at the goaltender position.

Sign me the f up.

What did we trade for Kotalik? Not a fan of his..

2nd round pick that we just acquired from Carolina I think.

Er, what? Tell me a legitimate trade Gainey should have made. And Schneider has 6 points in 4 games, and has instantly upgraded our previously lame duck powerplay. Dont see how my "homer" bias factors into either of these issues.

And I said last month that Gainey needs to get shitcanned. Oh, Manics.

Burke's "when your team sucks, your players are less desirable" theory doesn't exactly work. Phoenix sucks, and they had no problem selling everybody.

It's actually a separate 2nd round pick.

The Tampa deal was simply Toronto buying a 4th rounder and Tampa reducing their cap.

Huh? Gainey made that trade b/c he thought he had a deal in place with Waddell for Hossa and Hedberg. He's still pissed at Waddell for it.

Phoenix actually hit the trifecta. They cut a lot of salary, got some decent players in return, AND got a few picks. Aside from Calgary, I think Phoenix had the most successful day. Getting Jokinen's god awful contract out of the books was a great move.

Man I am still so fucking pissed at Murray. Didn't do shit except trade a player who wasn't really the problem at all this season and one of the most reliable players on the team.

The hell was the point of of signing Kuba? He better pull some magic at the draft and trade the useless parts of this team or else Ottawa will have pretty much the exact same team next year.

Gainey has a limp dick. It totally suits the personality of his team.

Leafs now have Kolzig, Gerber, Toskala, Joseph, and Pogge. :lol Stocking up on keepers to make a move in the offseason for picks?!

I'm pretty sure Kolzig is not gonna play a single game for the Leafs.

Dude, check the pre-season expectations. Leaf fans were always expecting to tank and rebuild while the Habs had delusions of Stanley Cups. :lol Now that you finally realize you're nowhere close to that you need to lash out at other teams. Leaf fans know we're rebuilding, Hab fans have yet to realize it. :lol

Man, let's just play some hockey again.

Big game with playoff ramifications going on between Montreal and Buffalo.

What happened with Miroslav Satan... why did he clear waivers? I'm lookin at his numbers from this year they aren't that bad.

He's an old, brittle gimp who makes too much money and was fortunate enough to play with Malkin/Cindy for those stats

Wait.. I'm going to dig up the thread from last year where like all the Pens fans were pretty much GUSHING at Satan joining the team..

Do it. I'd be curious to see what I said. Don't think I was "gushing," as you say, since my stance has generally been one of cautious optimism. But prove me wrong. :)

Satan's actually been fairly decent lately. After MT left, Bylsma put him on the top 2 lines where he could be effective, but has recently put him down to 3rd and 4th line duty again. It is slightly baffling considering his improved play, and I do feel sort of bad for the guy. He shows flashes of skill, but his work ethic and utter inability to win a battle along the boards hamper the Miro love for me.

EDIT: Found my initial reaction to the Miro/Fedex signings in the offseason:

"I'm okay with the Satan and Fedotenko signings. I still would have liked a more high profile winger though."

Followed by...

"I also think Satan is a fairly risky pickup, and would not pay the guy 3.5 million. Same with Fedotenko, who had the benefit of playing with guys like Lecavalier, St. Louis, and Prospal. These are middle-of-the-road players who don't bring a lot of upside or promise. I see them as shots in the dark, or Shero throwing up a Hail Mary and hoping to land a miracle touchdown with Satan and Fedotenko transforming into superstars by playing on lines with Crosby and Malkin."

So Pens did not move a roster player from last nights lineup....

Where the heck do they find the room to put Guerin and possibly even Craig Adams that they got on waivers from Chicago?

I know Godard sitting in the playoffs (if they make it) makes sense, but just not sure where they put people. I would think Satan should play more games in Pens uniforms since no one claimed him, but don't think he will now with Guerin's salary hit.

And one of Dupuis / Kennedy now ends up on the 4th line (a move which I don't think is good use of either player - as they are both 3rd liners)

Any Ducks fans on here wanna let me know what the 'Hawks are getting from Pahlsson? I haven't seen a lot of Anaheim games so I'm not sure what to make of him...

Guerin's salary is pro-rated, meaning the Pens will only have to pay a little more than 1 million of his 4.5 this year. Satan will now likely be sent down to WBS. Not really the best use of him, I agree, but with the players currently on our roster, a few guys have to be squeezed out.

Let's just say the Pahlsson single handedly shut down Ottawa's big 3 in the 2007 SCF despite the big 3 being red hot going into that series :(

edit: Also, I'm not a Ducks fan as you can see from my avatar

Yeah, and since Bylsma moved up, the Baby Pens went from being very good to just average, they're playing .500 since the coaching switch. Maybe they feel a guy like Satan can add something down here. Will be interesting to see what happens because he doesn't strike me as the type that would take getting sent down well. But it saves them like 3.5 million if they do it.

:( Goddamn it, TSN's main page is like a giant fucking hex on the Flames. Thanks for the curse assholes! Whoever wrote the copy for the main story may as well fly out to Calgary and kneecap Kipper now, that first line is like a hundred jinxes rolled up into one.

I like the trades, although I can't make my yearly "flames on the verge of getting jokinen for the 13th straight season, dating back to when he was a teenager in finland" jokes anymore. I did make a comment this morning at work about the Flames trading for him yet again, so that made me look somewhat prescient at least. I should send this shit to eklund...

Jokinen has a not-great rep in the dressing room which I definitely believe, but the Flames team is fully Iggy's and he will keep him in line. Keenan/Suter are also capable of smacking the sass out of any 15 pro athlete malcontents, so I'm not worried. I was actually shocked at Leopold going back, it's a good move but it just seemed so weird. Had to give up a fair bit to get them, but honestly while I love Lombardi he's been on the verge of seemingly getting it all together for years now, and he has 9 freaking goals this year. Prust is a throw in, the first rounder hurts most, but the flames are historically bad at drafting in the last half of the first round anyway. :p

Honestly out of all the teams I kinda like what Phoenix did the most. They got a LOT back for all the guys they shipped out, I think they are almost a better team now and got a ton of picks and future shit to boot. You can't blow up a doormat team any better than that, they're in line for a lottery pick and will have a lot of balls in play for Tavares.

That's good to know. After doing a little bit of my own research on him, I think I'm gonna like this deal. Seems like a good faceoff guy. Good on the PK and defensively responsible. Looks like he's having a down year but I think everyone on the Ducks is. Hopefully he does well for the 'Hawks this year!

Funny thing is, if the Coyotes did end up getting Tavares you know who would get the most presss?

Gretzky.

The media wouldn't be able to resist the "Great One training the Next One" storyline. It'd be like a sappy made-for-TV movie.

The only caveat to God is that he's been underpaid and is due to hit the jackpot.

Is Bill Guerin still any good?

16 goals on the worst team in the league for a 38 year old seems pretty good. I actually brought up Guerin as a potential guy for the Pens to bring in a month ago. I think he fills in the veteran vacuum that we currently have on this team, and adds an element of maturity that is also lacking at times. Here he is, talking about his playing style and the move...

"I'm looking forward to playing the up-tempo style," Guerin said. "I can still skate at my age. But I'm not going to change my style. My biggest asset is going to net. With the puck handlers that we have, I'm a guy that will go to the net and open up room for them. I have certain talents and other guys have certain talents. I like being in front of the net in and in the slot."

Fuck, we got Satan? That guy is a bitch. Oh well, better than some AHL scrub I guess.
The truth. Maybe playing with Sid or Geno will make him a supearstar like Talbot.

That was my first response to getting Satan.

But then I also said this:

"Sid had a sweet pass between his legs right to Fedotenko, who then buried it. Satan - Crosby - Fedotenko line is going to be awesome."

And this:

Kingpen said:
I was pissed when you snagged Satan away from me. He is putting in 2 goals every scrimmage with Sid. I think he might get close to 40 this year.
That is why I grabbed him

:'( But that was just hockey pool shit talking.
