I love how the shitiness of the Maple Leafs* has allowed Leafs fans to get all cocky when talking about other teams. Sure, they can fallback to the, "it's OK! We're rebuilding!" argument... but does that mean they've been rebuilding for the last half-decade? Team ain't going anywhere :lol

*or maybe not based on their play of late - no Tavares/Hedman for you!
Oops. I said "last half-decade" but actually meant "last half-century".

so carbs finally got the axe. If it wasn't for the fact that ive been out all day and am completely dog tired right now, I would comment on this fully, and even quote a couple of homer manics posts from today to laugh at. I'll just say i'm surprised not by the canning itself but by the timing of it.

well be interesting to see if anything comes out of the locker room regarding the whole thing.

Guy Carbonneau gone?
NOOOO :(

The Montreal Canadiens dismissed head coach Guy Carbonneau on Monday, two-thirds of the way through his third season. Executive Vice President and General Manager Bob Gainey will coach the Canadiens for the rest of this season.

Associate coach Doug Jarvis and assistant coaches Kirk Muller and Roland Melanson will continue on the coaching staff.

In addition, the Canadiens have added Hamilton Bulldogs head coach Don Lever to their staff. Hamilton assistant coach Ron Wilson will take over as bench boss of the AHL club.

The Canadiens were the top team in the Eastern Conference last season with a 47-25-10 record, but have struggled this season due to inconsistent goaltending, power-play woes and low production from some of the expected team leaders.

"Not long ago, I responded to a question that was asked to me about my best decision since taking over as general manager, and that Guy was my best decision," Gainey said during a press conference on Monday night. "The decision today can be seen as a contradiction, but in the last eight weeks the performance has been below average. I believe that a change in the direction at ice level is necessary."

urgh, missed the first half of tonight's game, but i was worried something like this would happen. the canucks have a pretty good schedule for the rest of the year, but we have the worst habit in the world of playing down to shitty teams' level

You and me both. I'm just happy last night's game against the Canes ended in regulation.
It will be fascinating if they stay in 9th place. I will have many, many people to laugh at for hours on end.

Worried about a letdown game from the Pens tonight. They've been on the road for a while now, and coming home must have relaxed them quite a bit. We'll see how they react against Florida in less than one hour.

Let's go Pens. Malkin needs to get his head out of his ass tonight.

JAROMIR JAGR wants to play in... EDMONTON? And he was almost here at the trade deadline!

http://www.nypost.com/seven/03082009...ble_158508.htm

I hope we get him in the off season.

This would be terrible news. Edmonton has become the best place to pick up a pay cheque with little to no effort. I have no breath to argue about this. Born and raised in Edmonton, lived thru all the cups and bs. Right now we need to clean house on the boys club leading the team, bring our top young guns from the minors up and make some real moves to get strong, dependable talent into Edmonton.

Keep the Dream alive: Smyth to Calgary 2010!

I'm thinking about picking up NHL Center Ice with Comcast for this last month and the post season. Its currently at $79 for the rest of the season. Does anyone know if it drops any lower than this for the post-season alone? Depending on the drop I may just wait.

This was already posted... but it's just a rumor so I wouldn't rely on it too much. I can't see Jagr turning down crappy teams this past year only to want to play for the oilers of all teams. I'll believe it when I see it.

I know for gamecenter at least it drops every month as it is providing less months. Gamcenter is also $79 but streams on your computer so I'd imagine the same trend. Like I said it's been dropping all season as there is less months of broadcasting left, how much lower it'll go though I don't know.

Why is nhl gamecenter giving me a fucking fs panthers stream for a Pens home game. I guess the 200 people that go to panther games must out weigh all the Pens fans that wanna watch a home game feed.

It's cool, bro. We can still win this. Sure, Florida is 24-1-1 when leading after two, and sure they usually beat us, but NOT TONIGHT. No, tonight shall be different. Pens are going to come out firing from all cylinders in the third, and will nail a PP goal within the first minute.

Pens-Age is silent tonight... To give props to Florida, Vokoun looks amazing tonight. He is going to be a hard goalie to beat in the playoffs...

That reviews goal could have gone either way...
Hoping for that comeback magic in the 3rd, but also realize we can't win em' all...

We have been playing with a lot of energy. Just seems we can't catch a break.

Yeah, it feels like one of those games where a win is just not in the cards. Our PP has looked poor, so I hope they can fix that in the third. We'll see. Let's go Pens.

lesser of two evils.

Damn it. Pens-age is annoying. Penguins are garbage in my opinion. Hate em' to death.

I'd love to see Pens in the playoffs only to get booted by the Devils or Capitals, lol. That would be my dream, so amazing!

I mean, the look and all the priceless reactions and emotions from the Penguin fans, haha.

Leafs, on the other hand, wtf...

Edit: Hey Pens fans, your team ain't all that. :lol

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

Wow, this Steve Mason guy is actually pretty good.

I'm hoping the Wings don't run into him in the 1st round of the playoffs.

Right now, Columbus is looking like a team that could go deep this year.
