Pens win their 7th in a row. They're finding ways to win right now. A month ago, there is no way we would have won this one. So pleased with how we're playing right now.

To be fair, pens fans are the only ones keeping this thread alive. The Leafs are sucking badly and hab fans have bruised egos.

It's great to see my home team doing so well (relatively speaking). The fans especially are really making themselves heard. Just goes to show you there's more to Columbus than the Buckeyes. :D

I was in Columbus for UFC this weekend and there were a ton of Jackets fans at the R bar outside of the arena cheering them on against the wings. Had a blast

oh and some good fights in the preds/caps game tonight. belak ko'd brashear and tootoo busted bradley's nose open and the refs stepped in due to blood flinging everywhere

I haven't seen a lot of games with Brashear but he really sucks considering how big he is. He looks like a freakin gorilla. I'd expect more out of his fighting.

Maintaining NHL participation in the Olympics: 12.6%

Regulating goaltender equipment: 5%

The elimination of fighting: 3.4%

The league is going nuts in their rampage to end fighting in the game, and yet elimination of fighting is what the fans want the least. Another winning move by the worst commissioner of all time.

The NHL is FINALLY closing (or, in some cases, has overcome) the gap with NBA attendance and now we're moving slowly toward eliminating a fan favorite part of the game. Brilliant idea. Have you ever heard fans booing after a good fight? Most people are on their feet. Taking that away is asinine.

I don't get the whole crack down on fighting craze. I don't think it's like it used to be in, say, the early to mid 90s when I think there was more fighting. You might get one fight a game and most of the time, the fights are nothing to write home about with barely any good connecting shots. I don't have a problem with it as it stands now.

And I think the game is fine with the rule changes they implemented. And the NHL does have the best and smartest use of replay of all the major sports. The only further change I can think of is to maybe get the goalie equipment a little smaller. I wouldn't be opposed to a slightly shorter season (by like 15-20 games) with an earlier Cup final, but I doubt the owners would go for that.

Everything I've read about rule changes to fighting point to a new 10 minute penalty for any fighters involved in a "staged" fight, such as immediately after a face off. Also, the referee can give the 10 minutes to any fights that he thinks are premeditated or planned in any way. The NHL would be stupid to get rid of it completely and I'm betting everyone in the front office knows it. Nothing wrong with a new 10 minute fighting major imo.

I think the 10min penalty is stupid. Leaving penalties to the referees discretion like this smacks of the instigator. Especially since players are just gonna *accidentally* bump into each other before they start. Will that just be a 5min penalty? Seems useless to me.

I do like the suggestion that they should call instigator penalties (ya it's contradictory, so what) on people who jump guys who landed clean hits. A hard, clean hit shouldn't automatically result in getting jumped from behind by some goon.

Yes! This is a bad trend in the NHL right now and it can really make games drag on forever. I'm a fan of the instigator minor in this situation. I guess they could get rid of the 5/10 minute penalty all together and make it a 2 or 4 minute major instead - affecting the man power on the ice. I dunno. That would put an end to some of the more unnecessary fights maybe?

Are you a Devils fan? Very unlikely that we'll catch New Jersey. At best, we can land 5th in the conference, and will likely end up facing Philly in round one. I don't want to look too far ahead though. We're still only in the playoff picture by 2 points.

i just took a look at the sharks' remaining schedule - only 5 of 17 games are against playoff teams.

i think that about wraps up the #1 seed for them.

The Pacific division really is a joke this year..
Right now the 8 playoff teams in the West consist of:

4 Central
3 Northwest
1 Pacific

The Wings have to hope that the Ducks stay in the playoff hunt and play with desperation, since they have 3 games left against the Sharks.
Also, if Nabby is out for a while it could give the Wings a bit of a chance.

Given how tight the West is, I don't think "playoff teams" means all that much right now.

Also, considering how terrible the Central division has been for years, I don't even see how you could bitch about it, pringles.

I don't see how I'm "bitching" nor how the fact that the Central has been bad for many years is relevant. Doesn't make the Pacific any less of a disappointment this year.
Both the Stars and the Ducks are right in the middle of the playoff battle though and could still definitely make it.

Does Center Ice have something against Flyers announcers? I have watched all of their games since I got it (last time they played the Pens) and have always had the opposing team announcers.
