Official Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Thread

Probably not.
There are three snakes in the battle: Solidus, Solid, and Liquid. Each of them is only found at that point in the game, and they are all unlisted in Paramedic's records. They are also pretty much the best food in the game.

Now, the only possibility would be throwing on at The Boss....

I see. Gonna try to toss them to
The Boss
once I get to
her
and report what happens.

Speaking of rare animals has anyone caught that legendary snake Tsuchinoko(sp) Para-medic talks about in a few of the forests in the game? I've looked all over for that damn thing and I can't find it.

Do game designers know that the DVD full excuse is BS? Simply go double-layer or make another single layer disc.

I really wanted to know what else was cut out of the game, but as usual, the interview was skimpy on the details.

It's not BS. It's simply a decision, you don't have to like it but you're not the one making the game either. Going dual layer or adding another disc will increase the cost of producing the game. Would it really be worth it for a few gags and an extra cutscene? Since we don't know the contents of what was removed and Kojima has shown exceptional foresight in overall polish in his games, I'm inclined to believe it's not worth it. Plus if it means that something that's not completely mindblowing is removed just so I don't have to switch discs in the middle of a game, that's awesome. :)

MGS3 is so packed with goodies and stuff that I doubt any one player will ever see -everything- in the game. It's also so varied that just about everyone has a different experience with the game using different weapons and tactics and finding different secrets and triggering different optional scenes and stuff. If he didn't say anything was removed, we wouldn't even for a moment wonder. So it's not an excuse, it's just a game design decision.

Here's another thing I haven't seen mentioned in the thread already.

Just before the last boss, when
you're walking around with EVA
there's a way to get
her in her bra and panties only in the CURE screen
.

I'm not sure what the method I did was, but I saw it when I first entered the 2nd area and I believe I had just
fed her something she liked, so she may have also had full stamina
. The next time I went into CURE it was back to normal.

OK, so when you load your game from the cell...And you play some totally different game...A hack n' slash with two swords...What the heck is that?

now this is something funny...

i saw a guy post on another board saying that he forgot to heal snake before save & quit during The Fear fight. After he came back , he found that that thing cannot be removed anymore and he ended up with finishing the game like that... :lol :lol :lol

A nightmare (and a Devil May Cry joke/reference)... If you want to keep it, it's the savegame with the red flowers when you manage them through your PS2 navigator...

Speaking of that. Did anyone actually leave bullets in Snake's body long enough for them to cause scars?

I'm well aware of these design decisions. But simply saying space is an issue is BS in this day in age. There are techniques or methods to overcome space issues: one is the obvious increase in disc count and another way is to use the harddrive where you have the extra, optional materials in compress form and uncompressed on the harddrive. There are possibily other methods to overcome "space limitations" on DVDs. Each method will have drawbacks but will also have advantages.

The gags and goodies from Kojima are worth it. There are numerous people who enjoy such stuff and want more. Take a look at this thread, again, where we're all excited about little quirks in the game. Read the interview/Q&A again. The extras obviously provides an extra experience to the gamers. With MGS3 being a 6 million unit seller worldwide, they can afford an extra disc. If they're really stingy, they can release the extras on CDROM discs that installs into the harddrive and issue only a few thousands to those who wants them instead of every single copy.

You, and everybody else, need to realize and respect that one's personal preference should be not the sole preference forced upon everyone else. Some prefer contents over convenience while others prefer convenience over contents. The harddrive method I mention above took this into consideration and can meet both groups of gamers.

Your doubt is over. There will be at least one player who will see all or mostly all there is to it. Such people would be utter diehard MGS players and FAQ writers.

Europe, and I assume Japan too, will have extra contents. He's going to have to go to dual layer or double discs.

Again, the disc full excuse is BS. There's no soft or hard way to defend this excuse.

Does the guard AI duck down or crawl and fire at you when you go into shafts or under things on the harder difficulties? I'm playing on normal and that's the only thing that annoys me about the AI, it seems like it'd be easy to implement.

I had a soldier in the lab duck down on his knees and shoot at me while hiding in a shaft, but no one has followed me in yet.

I don't thin gaurds have ever crawled in after you in the series. They'll usually throw a grenade in if they notice you crawling into a vent or a small space.

I'll have to try that. The fact that
her transparent CURE model has nipples
was enough to cause a nosebleed.

Holy shit I've just discovered you can strafe in the 3rd person view by keeping your gun rised and L1 pressed. Sorry if common knowledge. I didn't know.

I didn't figure this out until my second playthrough either. Very nice addition though.

Playing on hard last night in the crawlspace under the provisions shack at the first Heliport (just before the first boss fight) I had two guards fully crawl under the shack and come at me.

Yeah, strafing is old news. L1 actually has somewhat of a dual function now. When there's noone around it makes you strafe, but if you're close to someone, it locks on to him.

That's awesome--the little things like that are what's making this game so damn fun, you never know what to expect.

Actually,
no requirements. Just get to the second area with EVA and check the CURE screen. For the second area, she is in "reward" mode.

I ended up stopping my game and turning it off for awhile after the whole
volgin
fight and before I
go into the woods and have to run through/from all those soldiers.
you guys think I should go back and play it so that I play that whole end segment as one? everyone keeps telling me how awesome they thought the ending was, the last 3 hours... I'm wondering if maybe I should go ahead and play through it again, not stopping after that fight, so that I get the full gravity of the ending.

Nah. You've already done the damage by stopping.

And to think, you only had about an hour left. Hang your head in shame!

:D

Just play out the rest at your own pace. It'll still be cool.

I'm stuck...

I need to steal some guys uniform, and I've been trying for awhile. He runs to hide in the bathroom, but even when I knock him out, I can't figure out how to 'steal' it. And if I kill him, I get 'mission failed'. What do I do?

Wait until he walks up the left stairs towards the locker area, then knock him out there. Then drag him towards the lockers and you'll get a cutscene.

I was stuck for a little bit there too, but if you use your codec, they tell you exactly what to do.

Ok, I have a question regarding the fight against The Boss, I am trying to drain her Stamina bar.

Can something be done when she comes close to you to do CQC? I try holding or pressing O many times but it does nothing. Sometimes I can break her CQC but honestly, I don't know how I did.

Can anyone spare me some tips please?

Yeah, you have to time it just right, but right after she grabs your arm, you'll notice a really brief pause in the action. If you tap your CQC button right away, you can counter it and get to the side of her so you can knock her down and pop her with your tranqs. It's hard to do, but it is possible. I got to the point in normal mode where I didn't even worry about getting shot, because as long as you're moving towards her, she'll only hit you a fraction of the time. So after she gets up, just keep running back at her so you don't run out of time, too.

Thanks

I kept trying to tap CQC and I was able to repel her attacks. Then I punched her, she fell and I shot two tranquilizer bullets. When she was shooting at me, I zig-zagged toward her and punched her again. At the time the song started, she was already at 3/4.

I need to replay that game.

Get the Mosin Nagant from the end, use the snow facepaint and camo, dive into the grass and crawl around until she looses you then get near the log on the ground and kneel and snipe her, easy as pie, she will never find you

Any repercussions for saving when the Save Chick (whatever her name is) advises against it?

I had last saved after I'd entered the level with "The End" boss battle. When I re-loaded, I went off to get the sniper rifle, and then spent a few minutes equipping the right weapons and equipment for the battle. I decided to save after this, so I would be properly set up to begin the battle if I had to re-load.

Save Chick advised against this for some reason (Are your really sure you want to save, Snake?), but since I have multiple saves, I went ahead and did it anyway. Then, out of curiousity, I re-loaded that save and found that I didn't have the sniper rifle anymore, and my chosen equipment was not equipped. So I got the rifle again, geared up...lo and behold, I beat The End on that try. I entered the next area and saved again.

If I continue playing from that save, will there be any problems because I had earlier saved when she advised against it?

The game only saves your progress for when you first enter the area or trigger a cutscene. So every time you enter the next "room", I suggest you save. If you change your weapon setup or camo first, it won't be saved - so if you know what you'll need before you enter a room, do that first.

Fought Fury last night - and man it was tough as nails on Hard level O_o. I died so many times I lost the count, but eventually, much like with other bosses, finding the right strategy and the best position meant a lot to get a leg up on him. The fight itself is so damn awesome - the fire effects, the lighting in that room, and the crazy shit that happens after you kill him is just great.

Oh and,
After getting to Grozniy Grad, I called Eva on the radio, and got a clear explanation that 'Raidenovich' is gay :lol

Any repercussions for saving when the Save Chick (whatever her name is) advises against it?
I had the same concern during The End battle. I saved at the beginning of the fight, and went to sleep. Next day, I continued and beat him. I think the only 'repercussion' is that if you save there, and don't play a game for one week, when you come back, The End will be dead, and you won't have to fight him at all! :P (not joking btw, that's a confirmed easter egg)

Thanks, part of the reason I asked about repercussions was way back when I played MGS,
during the torture scene I didn't hit the button fast enough to resist, so I gave in. I had no idea at the time it meant Meryl would die and I would get a different ending.

I didn't want an errant save to somehow affect my overall game in MGS3.

Another day. Another discovery. Do you remember that helicopter parked behind the military base prior to
the confrontation with Ocelot
? Destroy it with the TNT and you won't find
the heli scouting the second section of the mountains area. You'll get a couple of those flying platfoms instead. BTW, I managed to destroy every helicopter I encountered and those that came after them. The ones above Grozniy Grad included. Cool thing is you can also destroy the helicopters sniping at the pilot or the co-pilot through the cockpit. If you get the former, the heli gets distroyed immediately on air. Get the latter and it crashes to the ground.
Damn I LOVE this game.

you can also use the turret gun set up at that base, before you gunfight with shalashaska, to blow up the chopper. I found that really fun, since I never really had a good reason to use those guns. So I made a reason to use them. :)

Quick, I just accidently slit
Raikov
's throat-- should I go back and do it again or does it even matter?

Thanks-- but are you sure? I can't go back now unless I load up my last save, and the game goes on like nothing happened.
He looked normal when I put him in the locker, no blood or anything.
