And he didnt have any weapons with the Rams when he went to crap? Hes never gonna be the same QB.

To be fair his hand was fucked up when he started to go downhill. And he was doing decent in NY. I never said he was going to be MVP either. Just see him having a good year.

The New Orleans Saints will play all home games in San Antonio and will not refund ticket holders, according to a high-ranking official with the team who contacted a WDSU sports reporter. An official announcement is expected in the next day or two.

Wow, Tom Benson is a greedy fucking slimeball. First he wants to move the team at a time of distress and now he won't refund the ticket holders? Fuck him.

Count Down till Rice breaks down 3....2...

Edit: :lol I hit it right on the mark!

B. Pool is Brodney Pool, a defensive back drafted out of Oklahoma by the Browns in the early second round that some had projected as a mid first rounder.

I agree. He was good with the Giants that basically had no OLine, and a 2 and 3 receiver starting at 1 and 2. Now with solid receivers, and a marginally better OLine, he should do alright.

D'oh, I know him, but I thought there was no e at the end of his last name, which is what threw me off.

uhh, and the absurdity of QB over-rating continues. 11 of the 12 picks have a QB as the MVP.. in fact I think it would be fair to bet Leinart wins the hesiman in college this year already.

Kurt Warner can be great, and I picked him as my backup QB in my fantasy league even though their were still tons of people ranked higher available at that point. A pair of really nice receivers, but I'm not sure the line can give him the time he needs and Arrington hasn't looked spectacular yet.. I'd guess he'll split time with Shipp.

While "Big Ben" may turn into a great quarterback he certainly was nothing of the kind last year. He simply didn't make ludicrous mistakes and lose the game for his team.. which is admirable but you would be hard pressed to say he won a lot of games for his team either. I don't mean to belittle what he did but he threw for 134, 138, and 131 yards in 3 straight wins for the Steelers last year. He received a ridiculous amount of publicity that should have gone to what was a great team and not some unreal quarterback leading a bunch of players to victory :(

i think big ben is overrated too but to say he did NOTHING for the steelers is unfair. i saw him make a lot of clutch plays (especially with his legs). he did choke in the playoffs, but he had some awesome games where HE won the game for the team. still, steelers will be lucky to go 9-7 this year. i just dont think they're very good

haha at the ESPN "expert" picks. Michael Smith picking the Rams to win it all? :lol Joe Theismann actually has Washington going to the Super Bowl. I love my redskins, but damn Joe, wtf are you thinking. Merrel Hoge once again picking against the Eagles. Did Andy Reid molest his mother or something? And of course, most are picking the Colts to win it all, which pretty much disqualifies them from having any chance of winning the Lombardi Trophy (though having Tony DUngy as head coach pretty much accomplished that anyway)

Im not sold on this idea that Rothlesburger will go to crap. Didnt he look really really bad in the preseason last year against backups? Also, ONLY 3 MORE DAYS!!!!. Im never gonna get any work done this week. Looking at the salary cap numbers, I was wondering why philly is so far under. We have almost double the cap space of any team in the NFL. I think we are taking a run at Marvin Harrison next year. He and Mcnabb are old buddies, the colts cant afford him and we will most likely cut TO. Make it happen Reid!

...Marvin Harrison signed a 7-year contract extension last year didn't he? I think Reggie Wayne is a FA next year, not Harrison though.

edit: yup

Dec. 8 The Colts signed Marvin Harrison to a seven-year contract extension on Wednesday that is worth $67 million, according to ESPN.com's John Clayton. Harrison has caught 67 passes for 870 yards and 12 TDs this season.

the eagles have more cap room than everyone else cause they circumvented the salary cap by writing in some ridiculous contracts to people if they reached certain numbers (numbers they could never feasibly reach), and so when they didn't reach those numbers i guess what they would have made was put back into the cap. i don't really remember the details or wtf it was, but i read an article on it a year or so back.

anyways, it hasn't helped them win a superbowl has it :D

Ben's having the same problem he had last year when he looked bad. He's throwing the ball too damned high. If he can correct that, he'll at the very least be a better than average QB this year, but if not it can be a long season. This is the main reason I was so pissed that Fred Gibson got cut(along with Lee Mays being a complete waste of a roster spot), he's 6'4'' and can at least be within arms reach of the average Roethlisberger throw.

Somewhat related, I've decided to go and subscribe to a sports mag. I haven't read SI in years religiously, never even touched ESPN's mag. Any suggestions?

- Lots of cuts, some major ones in Raider land, but not all that surprising. Not looking forward to Madden's roster updates :(

- Thanks Jerry. Even though your stint was short in Oakland, one cannot doubt that he was one of the greatest players of all time. But you went to Denver, so I take back some of the love

- So if the Broncos totally bust this year, will Duhbya's stunt double lose his job? A roster spot saved for Jerry, and let's not forget about Clarrett... hrmm...Elway?

jerry rice was quite easily the best wr of all-time. you've already heard all the cliche things to describe him (never was the fastest, tallest, strongest, etc), but growing up and watching sf i always felt like we were in a game no matter what the score was thanks to the san francisco treat. good day to YOU jerry, wish we could have granted you a roster spot to play one more year but its a young mans business!

I hate that people use the acronym GOAT. I mean come on they could have came up with somthing better than GOAT. Now everyone on TV says "The GOAT, Jerry Rice" Maybe its just me but its driving me crazy.

Former Eagle Corey Simon didn't waste any time finding another team that loses in really big games.

Thats funny, I think most people consider playoff games big. Are they trying to say that the only big game all year is the superbowl? Ill fix it for them since that is apparently the case.

Former Eagle Corey Simon didn't waste any time finding another team that may someday lose in the really big game.

Koren Robinson(Who has apparently only had one career thousand yard season, go figure) signed with the Vikings.

Whether this means he'll be way down on the depth chart or that rookie Troy Williamson is pushed even further down, I don't know. But I know I'm regretting drafting Williamson in a fantasy league as my top WR backup. Damn you, big goofy looking Mike Tice!

I'm pretty sure that Burleson and Marcus Robinson are locks to start. Travis Taylor, Williamson, and Koren Robinson will all be scrapping for that #3 receiver spot. The odd man out is probably Kelly Cambell. I wouldn't be surprised if M. Robinson was gone next year, he's nothing special at all.

Supposedly WWL News Ch 5 in New Orleans broadcasting from a Baton Rouge PBS TV Station said to expect an announcement within the next 48 hours that the New Orleans Saints have reached an agreement to permanently move the team to San Antonio.

A couple of ideas were being kicked around the Browns' message board that I liked. I'd hate to say it, but we're somewhat of an authority on these matters. These were my favorite, from a poster on berniesinsiders.com named WestSideBob:

1) Let Benson move the team, but force a name change.
2) Hold a press conference and announce that NO will become an "Honorary" member of the NFL. New Orleans can keep the name, colors and history in the event that they one day receive another NFL team.
3) Pledge to hold a few preseason games a year that, pehaps even the Super Bowl on a rotating basis (once the Superdome is rebuilt/replaced)
4) (This is key) As an honorary franchise, donate 1/33 of the league TV money to the city for the next five years. (Approx. $4bln/yr. Costs each team about $4.5mil, a 3% drop in their TV revenues), nets the city of NO $720 million over 5 years.

It's a very difficult situation. On one hand, this is really kicking a city when its down. On the other hand, I've heard reports on television that the government is currently thinking it has to destroy the superdome within a year. It could be five or six years before the city is ready to host professional football and I'm sure it's the last thing on their minds.

Discuss.

On one hand, this is really kicking a city when its down.

That's pretty much my opinion... the timing sucks... hope it all works out.

Then again we've also got from Si.com

Arnold Fielkow, the Saints' executive vice president of administration, was specifically identified by Sen. Mike Michot, R-Lafayette, as having told the senator that owner Tom Benson was leaning strongly toward moving the Saints permanently to San Antonio. After reports about Fielkow's statements surfaced Saints general manager Mickey Loomis stated a strong commitment to New Orleans and Louisiana, saying a potential permanent move is "the farthest thing from any of our minds."
-- New Orleans Times-Picayune

and from Nola

SAN ANTONIO - Arnold Fielkow, the Saints' executive vice president of administration, issued a statement to the Times-Picayune on Monday to explain the intent of off-the-record statements he made to the newspaper, as well as a handful of other media outlets on Saturday.

Fielkow's statements, which he said were made with "much personal frustration" following a meeting with the team's top executives earlier that day, expressed concern that team owner Tom Benson was leaning toward playing all of the Saints' home games in San Antonio this year.

Fielkow, who feels strongly that the team should play as many games as logistically possible in Baton Rouge, said that he now believes the organization will indeed attempt to play several games at LSU's Tiger Stadium, if possible.

He also said that it is the "collective hope of our organization that Saints will return to New Orleans as soon as possible."
Fielkow said it was personally important to him to explain his position and hopefully put this issue behind him and the team, so they can move forward.

"I personally have just a great passion for our community and would like Saints football to be there for a long time," said Fielkow, who is in charge of the team's business operations, a consuming task that could be spread between Louisiana and San Antonio, which the Saints have made their base of operations for the rest of the season.

Most of Fielkow's statements Saturday were either attributed to a "source inside the organization" or used as background information. He was specifically identified by Sen. Mike Michot, R-Lafayette, as having told the senator that Benson was leaning strongly toward moving the Saints permanently toward San Antonio.

Fielkow was also identified by name Monday on the website profootballtalk.com as having made similar statements to WDSU-TV's Fletcher Mackel.

Fielkow was cited as the source who told the TV station that the Saints did not intend to offer refunds to season-ticket holders this year. However, Fielkow said Monday that the ticket matter has "since been clarified" and that fans will in fact "unequivocally" be able to receive refunds if unable to attend games.

After reports about Fielkow's statements surfaced on Saturday, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis stated a strong commitment to New Orleans and Louisiana during a Sunday evening press conference, saying a potential permanent move is "the farthest thing from any of our minds."

"We are still the New Orleans Saints," Loomis said, "and our commitment to our city is stronger than ever."
Following is Fielkow's statement, in its entirety:

"There have been several published reports regarding some statements attributed to me last week involving the Saints' move of its training base to San Antonio. I would like to clarify these statements and provide some background to them.

"These statements were made last Friday with much personal frustration following an organizational meeting held earlier that day. I participated in this meeting via conference call and left the meeting concerned that some wrong decisions may be made. The last week has been a trying time for our community, including everyone within the Saints organization, as we watched the terrible catastrophe which had befallen a city which my family and I love very much. I know how much the New Orleans Saints mean to our great city, state and region and it was important that right decisions be made in this time of crisis.

"During our meeting, I expressed a strong opinion that Saints home games, following the Giants game, should if logistically possible be played in Baton Rouge. This position was based upon the fact that it would be an uplifting item for our fan base, similar in many ways to how the New York Yankees became a sense of pride for our whole country after 9/11. We are working with the league and hope to announce shortly the location of our 2005 home games beginning in October. We are reviewing all options in conjunction with the league and are hopeful of playing several games in Baton Rouge this season. Further announcements on this subject will be forthcoming.

"It is the collective hope of our organization that Saints football will return to New Orleans as soon as possible and, as expressed by GM Mickey Loomis yesterday, that the Saints, both this year and in the future, can play a leading role in the rebuilding and revitalization of our community. This hope is shared by everyone within the Saints organization, including ownership, players, coaches and staff.

"I was further concerned during our meeting that a question existed as to whether refunds would be provided to season ticket holders unable to attend games this season. This matter has since been clarified and we will announce shortly our club's refund policy which will unequivocally provide our fans the ability to receive refunds if unable to attend games.

"The Saints will be playing this season for our great fans in New Orleans, the state of Louisiana and the entire Gulf South region. We hope the club's success will spread some joy to a fan base which has been devastated over the past week.

"These were the reference points for my statements last week. We all look forward to the start of a successful season this Sunday as we have much work to do over the next several months. We look forward to making 2005 a special season for all of our great fans."

what are you fools trying to jinx the lions you cant EXPECT them to win they never win those games, its gotta be worse than david vs goliath odds and then they win by like 30!

I don't really expect them to win, but I have a rule about limiting the number of road teams I pick, and I have a better feeling about the road teams I DID pick than I do about the Packers.

Looks like Ward finally got his contract.

Yesterday morning, Ward signed a new five-year contract worth $27.5 million, according to sources familiar with the deal. It includes the largest signing bonus in club history, $9 million, plus a $1 million roster bonus that, combined with his salaries in the first three years of the deal, delivers to him the so-called "guaranteed" money he was seeking at $17 million, also the largest in club history.

They open the door and a playboy playmate comes in, followed by boyfriend J Gar! They started exchanging gifts and J Gar smelled acandle and listened to the playmate say "We need to get some fo these for the house!"

It was pretty awesome.

THE STEELERS RELEASED LEE MAYS!

THE STEELERS RELEASED LEE MAYS!

I've got an entirely new enthusiasm for this season. Lee Mays is out, Quincy Morgan is in. Granted, he's not particularly good, but he's a hell of a lot better than Lee Mays. And anybody who sniffs a thousand yards with the Browns is worth a shot, especially if it means dumping Lee Mays.

Anybody who doesn't follow the Steelers doesn't understand how big this is. This rejuvinates me. I was worried about the season, now I think there's a good chance the Steelers could go undefeated.

That picture was taken last year.

Which of those QBs are still with the Browns?

That's right. Zero.

I would like to see how the Browns roster turnover this year compares with the historical highs in league history.

Coincidentally, I saw that show on E! and it's the one that follows around Hugh Hefner and his stable of "girlfriends". In this wonderful episode his 3 girlfriends go to Vegas to celebrate this playmate's bday and one of the girls says "Carmella should be here soon with her boyfriend Jeff.. he's some kind of football player or something."
