Official NHL CBA Conclusion thread! HOSANNAH, BITCHES

I don't remember whether or not Isbister was much of a presence on the ice..
..probably not. Didn't really put the 'forward' in "power forward".

So no big loss.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were no big name FA signings for a week yet. No one knows what the market will be so I think GMs and agents will want to go slowly. Of course, one big name signing today would set the bar probably and then there might be a bunch of offers and signings, but I doubt it.

Foxsports.com has a pretty decent ranking of the top 20 UFA's available in rough order of how desirable they'd be. I'd shuffle guys around a bit but it's a good list.

And, :lol at Calgary appearing so often as a potential destination.

And the beginning of the FA signing period was an hour and a half ago, 12pm Eastern. Seriously, I'd love to be surprised but I think there won't be big name signings for at least a couple of days.

gary roberts and joe nieuwendyk has left the leafs and has signed with Florida

2 year deals ($2 mil each)

not yet confirmed

Eklund says this :

Iginla :

3 YEARS 6-6.5 MIllion...The BAR HAS BEEN SET. HERE WE GO. This is what everyone is waiting for... Suddenly Thornton at 5-5.5 makes a little more sense

now confirmed. Does that means Forsberg is a leaf?

A fourth round pick for any NHL skater seems low, even if the guy is mediocre at best (and "mediocre at best" sure describes Isbister). 4th round picks are 50/50 to even make it to the NHL at all, seems like a weird trade.

Hmm, assuming Sportsnet isn't pulling the Niewendyk/Roberts thing out of their ass maybe there will be a big name signing today or tomorrow. Strange that TSN or The Score isn't reporting this live, shit a month ago the rumour of those two leaving TO would cause the hockey guys to pre-empt whatever the hell was on.

Same thing. We're wishfully optimistic :)

(I should really stop defending all Leaf fans, because there are a lot of morons out there and I'd be here all day if I did ;) )

Good for the Leafs is NOT signing these 2 guys. Two years at $2.25 million for injury prone older players? Nieuwendyk would regularly miss games without any advance warning, just "oh my back flaired up, I'm out".

Had the Leafs signed these 2 guys all other non-Leaf fans would be calling them idiots and it's the "same old Leafs signing old crappy players". At least this signals a potential change in their thinking and they won't go signing old guys who are past their prime just because they want to play in Toronto and were once great players.

I fully approve of this non-signing by the Leafs.

I wonder what it's going to come down to in figuring out where these big free agents like Forsberg and Niedermayer will land. I'm sure there's a handful of guys who are going to be offered the max, and will then just be in the position of figuring out which team they want to go to.

Even though the players may not like it, I think the new CBA is probably good for the league in terms of re-attracting disgruntled fans, because I'm sure the free agency drama and its unpredictability is going to be entertaining to watch.

Agreed.

Of course they'll probably blow that all to hell by signing Lindros. :lol

Yeah but Lindros at the right price is better than two 40 year old players at 2.25 million each! If they get Lindros under 2 million it's a risk worth taking.

Hahaha. Well, it's not that bad a joke. Edmonton just signed Mike Rathje for 5 millions.

Do you go by "Foreign" or "Jackass" or just FJ or something else? Can I call you jacky for short?

Leafs sign Coveted Free Agent!

MEDICAL MOVES

The Leafs have hired former Ottawa Senators' athletic therapist Kevin Wagner, who left the NHL team a few years ago for a private practice in Edmonton.

Chris Broadhurst, one of two therapists let go in Ferguson's purge of doctors and trainers a few weeks ago, has joined the Phoenix Coyotes.

:lol Great move by the leafs.

Anyway, Rumor has it that Martin Lapointe has been approched by 13 teams including the Sens and the thrashers(The trashers' Coach, Hartley, was Lapointe's Junior hockey team coach.)

Tie domi was spotted with Mario Lemieux, rumor has it he's goin to pittsburgh.

Another rumor for the Pens: Chris Chellios has offered his services to the penguins.

Wow I can't believe Pittsburgh let Kostopoulous go, what the hell are they thinking? Crosby has now been rendered useless!

This just in

Peter Forsberg is in talks with the LA Kings for a 3 year deal. He wants to play with Tom Kostopoulos, not Naslund as previously assumed

Habs pull out of Aucoin derby, apparently leafs are in the front seat. Aucoin is asking 4+ millions a year, that's insane.

leafs should go for leetch or gonchar again.

Gonchar would be good for PP and offensive zone and Leetch would be good for passes up the middle (which would be a lot more important and commonplace next year)

Or get some good defensive talent like Yuskevich for a bargain price.

Actually, the leafs have an alright defensive corps. You have mccabe, kaberle (which hopefully gets his stride back), klee, berg (very underrated, played very well last year) and belak (ack! well he's -ok- on defense but sucks as a forward)

so there's obviously the mystical D problem again in toronto but now they need to fill the forwards with some talent.

Right now the only skilled player on the leafs is sundin! Sundin! Tucker is the follow up!

Leafs are in dire need of forwards right now.

SantaCruZer said:
what the hell. Aucoin is worth max 2 million. Talks over 4 million is insane.

Maybe it's a contract worth 4 million and not $4 mil a year? Maybe a 2 year or 3 year?

belak did fairly well playing on defense last year. Berg played very well. Kaberle and marchment were just... zoned out the entirety of their seasons

plus, i said alright, which is just a notch above mediocre :P

Did you miss the O'Neil signing? He's clearly the second best right now.

EDIT:

Holy shit....breaking news on tsn.ca

Blue Jackets sign foote!!!

oh yeaaaaaaaah

*smacks head*

ok so now you have only sundin and o'neill. followed by tucker and... chad kilger? :P

They need replacements for nieuwendyk, roberts and mogilny (that is if mogilny doesn't re-sign which i think he *might*)

roberts not so much but nieuwendyk added a lot of speed to the offensive, roberts was a more physical force (sort of like lindros)

hell, we don't have renberg any more either. We lost a lot of quality players.

Holy Shit! That is awesome news. I figured the Jackets would sign someone decent, though I wasn't expecting Foote! I am still awaiting good new on the Leafs front....

one of the silent teams i'm waiting to make a big splash is chicago, i think they'll pull a few big big big moves

This is what i was talking about before, all the small teams will be picking up a lot of excess talent. Pittsburgh will probably be in the playoffs again, columbus might make it in the playoffs if they get a couple more good players (kovalchuk and nash isn't enough).

this is going to be a very fun year :)

I heard he was quitting due to his knee. It would mke me quite happy to see him stay with Toronto.

mogilny never had a problem with his knee

it was his hip that has been the problem
