Kovalchuk? Dude he plays for the Thrashers...dopey.

I'm happy for Tedesco and the Jackets. Hopefully we get a nice amount of parity in the league...So far players have gone for the big money..we'll see if that's not just how it all unfolds rather than the Leaf fan's ideal situation of players taking paycuts to play in a city they're from, etc.

edit: Forza is my favorite new poster....great minds think alike.

Well if this is a sign of things to come, it looks like the players are pretty much going to who pays them the biggest bucks and not necessarily to someone that looks like a contender. I wouldn't be surprised at all if someone like Forsberg follows suit and signs with a non-contender.

Exactly what i said

some players are still going to be greedy so they're going to play for riches instead of the glory.

then again it might be exactly what those teams need, maybe it's what is going to make those teams into big contenders

God dammit
Im starting to wonder if edmonton will sign ANYONE. Theres not even rumours that include edmonton! =(

True Dopey and the whole point of the new deal as we all know was to close the gap between the top teams and bottom teams in terms of spending. Also keep in mind that these lower tier teams have a lot more cap space to work with and can therefore shell out more for the likes of Foote than say Detroit, Philly, Rangers or the Leafs can.

The Blue jackets may have signed Adam Foote or Paul Kariya.

They have signed foote?

edit: ahhahahhaha apparently JFJ offered domi, nieuwendyk and roberts the minimum salary... around the same time he made qualifying offers to players like antropov and berg which are making just over 1 million next year

ouch!

Actually on the previous page there are some posts and links form Forza, Fifty and Tedesco.

Guess the Avs have opened up some cash..

It's all in good fun. I am happy that the Jackets signed him. The big problem with the Jackets, IMO, is that they didn't have enough puck support. Denis would get drilled with little help from anyone else, so it's nice to see them helping him out.

Listening to FAN 960 is kinda questionable (heh) but yeah, it is sort of overmarketed in order to reach saturation. Both of the playoff games I made it to (round 1 and round 3) were only because a relative who works for a oil company won a lottery draw (winning meant the right to buy a ticket, not a free one...). 2 of the 4 season games I went to were due to similar coincidences.

And for what it's worth, yeah it's expensive but the chrysler club seating is awesome enough to go to at least once (sat 5th row, during a turek game sadly). I still couldn't believe I could order dinner from my seat! :lol

Well my dad used to get free season tickets when he worked at a big oil company so that he can take his customers to the games. It's basically a whole bunch of season tickets that all the salespeople share...so to go to playoff games, I'm guessing they do a draw to see who gets to go, perhaps this is exactly what happened when you went!

What a happy day. If MacLean made an offer to Kariya as well (he said he's made offers to a defenseman and a forward) that'll go a long way towards getting us where we really need to be.

You could say we may have overpaid for Foote, but quite honestly, teams that aren't established playoff contenders will need to shell out that extra 500k or so to get the guys they need. Whoever pairs up with Foote on defense (likely Klesla, I'd say) will get a great mentor.

TSN is stating that Boston will announce the signing of Mike Modano today. Apparently Atlanta and the Pens were/are still in the running for his services.

I agree. You have to pay up when you are constanly in the lower end of the standings. I would love to see Kariya, Foote, Kesla, and Nash all hit the ice together.

Blackhawks Sign Aucoin
The Chicago Blackhawks have signed free agent defenseman Adrian Aucoin to a four year deal worth $16-million, TSN has learned. Details to follow.

Frustrated by what he considers a lack of appreciation from within the Maple Leafs' organization, unrestricted free agent Tie Domi sat down with his agent last night to examine four contract offers from other NHL clubs.

"If I was really wanted here, I wouldn't have made it to 12:01 (when the free agency period began yesterday). People have short memories about what you do for a team," an emotional Domi said last night.

"I never thought it would even cross my mind (to leave Toronto). But after 12:01 today ..."

"I think I'm just taken for granted a little bit," he said.

I cant believe the pay some of these guys are getting. Thank god Bettman idiot proofed the cba :D

Hey Hey... look at this.
First pick Sidney Crosby hits the American national-television talk circuit Thursday, appearing on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" while training in Los Angeles.

Man, how the hell is it that The Flyers can sign 3 guys all on one day, and the 'Aggressive' Penguins don't announce anything. Man that is frustrating. I know that patience is a virtue, but us Penguin fans have been hearing this BS about going and signing free agents for years (especially when they have no money). Now that they have some money, I want them to actually deliver.

Hopefully they will announce something today. Good move by the Blue Jackets getting Foote. He will help them out a lot. They might surprize some people if Zherdov can live up to his billing and help Nash out.

Keep Crosby out of Hollywood!
We don't want him turning into another Alexander Daigle! =(

I'm so desperate for Oilers rumours I'm turning to Eklund for hope. :lol

The Edmonton Oilers, very secretive in general, have been in discussions with Paul Kariya, and Brian Rafalski.

Flames, Oilers make push for Niedermayer

Sportsnet.ca -- Scott Niedermayer and Sergei Gonchar remain the two key defencemen left on the free agent market.

Sources tell Sportsnet both the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers are among the teams expressing the most interest in Niedermayer.

The Vancouver Canucks have also made gestures, although the Canucks are believed to be reluctant to commit to the millions Niedermayer is sure to demand.
hmmm

Ah fuck

Holik to the Thrashers
I wanted Holik =(

Holik signing in Atlanta

Sportsnet.ca -- One of the league's best two-way players is heading to Atlanta.

Sportsnet has learned that free-agent centre Bobby Holik has agreed to terms with the Atlanta Thrashers. Holik will earn $4.25 million in the first year of the three-year deal.

In 2003-04, Holik scored 25 goals and 31 assists for the New York Rangers.

More to follow...

And now for the Sabres master plan to unfold...

...let every good player you have walk away, sign no one, have the worst draft in the league, and have the lowest payroll. Darcy Regier, you're a true genius.

Watch out for the sabs in 2005-2006!!!

Apparently leafs lunch is saying Allison is going to or already has signed with the leafs.

God dammit Lowe... GET BUSY.

Another player being overpaid....sigh Im glad the habs didnt sign any of them, it's ridiculous. What will happen to those teams next year when the cap gets even lower?

Perhaps I just really overestimated this new CBA

Whoa - what's with all the crappy teams courting all the big-names?
I know that this was the whole point of the new CBA, but bah! Boring.

Yes, yet another big ticket free agent is saying he will end up in the blue and white.
Forward Zigmund Palffy told Slovak paper SME that although his former club, the L.A. Kings, are interested in re-signing him, he believes he will end up in Toronto, Detroit or in Florida, reports the Toronto Star.
