Leaf fans are already scared of me I see. :lol

Excellent. Fear leads to hate. Hate leads to, for Leaf fans, Enlightenment and Inner Peace as the cast off the shackels of a team that won't ever win shit. Yes it's a bit ironic, but the Leafers are already rooting for the Dark Side so any heel turn is a 180 to the good guys. I suggest you embrace the Sabres or maybe the Habs Kabuki, it's your only chance at redemption!

Embrace the Sabres? Habs? are you out of your mind?

Its weak willed multiple Bandwagon hopping fans like you who led to the Jet's Demise.

YEA I SAID IT !!!

:p

I actually cancelled my cable halfway through the NBA playoffs, thinking I'd have no need of it ever again. Maybe I'll just get NHL Center Ice and that's it - you have a link to their order packages?

remember?! Calder rooted for the leafs last year. Even though I think the possibility of having the flames in the playoffs made him high or something.... but he still did!

Don't know how to order it outside the cable company. Last time I had it was through the Rogers digital cable service. If they don't broadcast games in HD though, I might not get it.

Actually there's this link: NHL Center Ice

yo... when you find out let us know... i'll get order the package just to watch hockey in HD, it's the only thing I watch on TV =p

That Red Wings jersey looks way too small for Rasheed to be wearing. Then again, I've seen fans at games with jerseys so small it didn't even reach their waste. To make matters worse they'll wear jeans so tight that it looked like they just dipped their legs in colored paint.

Talk of these new form-fitting jerseys worry me.

Can't wait to see Crosby suit up for the Leafs!

If that happens, I can guarantee the leafs will go down as the most hated team in NHL history. But knowing the leafs, we'd take him and then put him in the farm team because we wouldn't feel he's ready yet.

Time to resub to the NHL Network. It only took me month 9 of the lockout to get me to cancel it, if only I had toughed it out a while longer.

I'm not a zillionaire so Centre Ice is out of my reach, unless it's a lot cheaper. Although the wife doesn't read the cable bill anymore since I have it e-billed to my email addy.... wonder how long it'd take her to notice an extra dozen NHL games on every night.

i know there are more hab fans on the board and boogie what team do you root for?

Yea i think im gonna have to splurge for center ice ...since Espn Dropped the NHL on my dish :(

Ironically, nothing ever made me angrier than seeing Leaf fans at Flames or Jets games when they played the damn Leafs. Fucking casual fans who didn't follow the NHL or know shit about hockey, but they'd throw on their $200 Salming replica one day a year and "cheer" for the Leafs while ignoring their real home team their whole lives. Pathetic. I wasn't much more impressed with Canadiens or Blackhawk fans doing the same. There are obvious exceptions of course, like the old-time fans of the club who'd been fans of their team long before the Jets were born.

I hope a Canadian team other than Toronto, Calgary, and Montreal win Crosby!

I will personally throw you off the wagon if you root for both the Canucks and the Oilers.

Yeah, Crosby's a fan of the Habs which is nice, but he'd be wasted on that team too. It's not like Crosby going to the Canadiens is needed to make Montrealers care about hockey or anything. And sure they had a few nice years, but does anyone (ignoring Habs fans) think that team is on it's way to Cup contender status anytime soon? I sure can't see it. Similarly, I think Crosby on the Canucks would just be media overkill and would render Sportsnet Pacific ENTIRELY UNWATCHABLE.

Pierre McGuire & Gord Miller talking about the Leafs.. saying there is talk Lindros is talking with the Leafs right now

--------

OOoooh! Free agent rumours!

wooo Lindros!!!! Gotta love how we always end up getting players in the PRIME of their careers!

honestly tho i hope they arent going to make we dont make him one of our higher paid players.

he will do fine as a third line center.

Hmmm, one thing I'm going to push for this year is the start of a Yahoo fantasy hockey keeper league. How many of you are interested in a small keeper league? Say 6 players kept from year to year... I know most of you Leaf fans have been biting my nutsack for half a decade now so I think we'd find 10-12 fantasy hockey fans willing to keep an ongoing league. :D

I'll name my team GoJetsFlamesSensNucksOilHabs-4ever! just to piss off Dopey and Kabuki. ;) dem will be annoyed when I crush his team over and over and over again just like in all the playoff or regular season leagues we've run. Still can't believe the last playoffs I was beat down by SystemShark because he was a much more loyal and smarter Flames fan than I was.

Even if there's not interest in a keeper league, a full season Yahoo league is a must. I'll already be in my usual 3 or 4 fantasy leagues and pools but the GAF one is always fun.

what?

Lindros talking with the leafs?!

WTF

Well at least he had a years rest ;)

edit how is it possible anyway? The CBA isn't ratified yet so afaik owners can't talk with players *yet*

I'll participate in a GAF yahoo league fer sure. :)

Sweet, hopefully we get enough interest that the league stays healthy and most GMs stay active through the whole thing. It'll be an interesting year for fantasy hockey that's for sure, with all the movement and uncertainty over whether or not established superstars like Sakic or Brodeur are still the safe picks or whether you take a chance with a guy like Rick Nash in the first round and hope he gets 50 goals.

Hmm, Yahoo's "Big Board" lists their top 50 players as they have them ranked right now. Here's a bit of it... pretty interesting.
Rank----- Player----- Pvs. Rank
1 Martin Brodeur, NJ, G 1
2 Markus Naslund, Van, F 2
3 Joe Thornton, Bos, F 3
4 Marty Turco, Dal, G 4
5 Joe Sakic, Col, F 5
6 Jarome Iginla, Cal, F 6
7 Ilya Kovalchuk, Atl, F 7
8 Marian Hossa, Ott, F 8
9 Nikolai Khabibulin, TB, G 9
10 Mats Sundin, Tor, F 10
11 Martin St. Louis, TB, F 11
12 Jaromir Jagr, NYR, F 12
13 Miikka Kiprusoff, Cal, G 13
14 Evgeni Nabokov, SJ, G 14
15 Keith Tkachuk, StL, F 15
16 Peter Forsberg, Col, F -
17 Sergei Gonchar, Bos, D 16
18 David Aebischer, Col, G 17
19 Bill Guerin, Dal, F 18
20 Dominik Hasek, Ott, G 19
21 Roberto Luongo, Fla, G 20
22 Chris Pronger, StL, D 21
23 Zdeno Chara, Ott, D 22
24 Milan Hejduk, Col, F 23
25 Curtis Joseph, Det, G
CuJo? Whatever. I wouldn't have Guerin or Joseph anywhere near my top 25, and a lot of those guys like Turco, Khabby or Gonchar I'd drop down 5 or 10 spots to make room for younger guys.

and bad news for vancouver fans

"With news that the NHL and NHLPA have come to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement, Vancouver fans were greeted with news that star forward Markus Naslund might not be back in Canucks colours this year."

Agent posturing in advance of the shell game free agency is going to be this summer under the new CBA. Nazzy will be back the glorious WHITE BLACK RED AND BLUE that the much vaunted, much loved Canucks of Vancouver sport whilst gliding about the ice like beautiful pirahnas. That wear skates.

Time to lift that suspension on Bertuzzi, too. Come on Bettman, time's a wasting and Todd's got some asswhuppings to hand out.

Habs fan here!

Fuck, this explains your crazy behaviour lately. First you don't like Pink Floyd, then you don't like Usual Suspects, now you're a Hab fan. It all fits, you have bad taste.

Here we go!

It's like the game was never locked out to begin with. Now all we need is Drensch in here foaming at the mouth about Colorado and all will be right with the universe. :)

I demand a GAF BanPool involving Drensch and dem. Except for the contestants, we should all get to pick 3 weeks from the NHL season and we try to guess who gets the first Canucks-based banning from one of our resident Left Coast mods.

For dem I predict he will be banned my Mike_Works, and the first ban will come in the second week of December.

For Drensch I predict he will be banned by Mike_Works and that his first and only ban will come in the third week of February, when the Avs are mathmatically eliminated from post-season contention.

.

You didn't get the memo?

Apparently this is what the great Glen Healy had to say today

1. The Leafs will be among those in the best positions going into next season. Why? "Because they'll be able to buy out guys like Antropov and Ponakarovski (sp?)"
2. The Wings will be amongst the worse. Why? Get this..."Because Detroit don't have that good of a scouting staff."

Well shit, if MikeWorks can't give out banstick beatdowns anymore then the whole contest is flawed! bishoptl is far too mellow to dish out the lengthy bans the filthy Greaser and Av fans so richly deserve. :(

*note: dem I was pretty much the only person in the NHL threads last year lobbying for your return... mainly because without you there Mike was getting closer and closer to punting *me* out for alleged Canuck baiting. :lol

EDIT: Glen Healy is such a dumbass. :lol With Healey being stupider now that he doens't have to worry about Brian Burke ripping his head off on live TV and Al Strachan all pissy at the players for giving up the fight too soon this is going to be a great week to enjoy Canada's vast, vast hockey media industry.

I would be very interested in a Yahoo fantasy league with you guys... Please let me know if you develop one.

Well, it will be very interesting to see how the Pens penny pinching ways the past 4 years will help them to get some good free agents. I hope we get Kovalev back at least..

Possibly an old time pen Naslund we never should have traded for Alex Stojanov too (hint hint... worst trade in history)

i'd say leafs are in a good position only because of the rule changes. You unleash a team like the leafs on a less defensive rule system and you could have -chaos-, as the leafs main problems were defensive teams. I'm not sure of another team that can benefit as much from the rule changes (maybe montreal?).

On the contract front they're going to have problems because only a few players they signed have an option of a contract buyout (owen nolan being the most notable) and mogilny will be signed but at a lower contract

then you bring in the fact that apparently the leafs are possibly going for eric lindros and that leaves little to no wiggleroom.

that said...

go leafs go =]
